This is going to backfire on the left big time. This is going to turn into a HUGE GOP get out the vote drive and sell a million AR-15s.

They sure can. A well regulated militia. (Should the Texas national guard possess nuclear weapons?)

This is a conversation about private citizens and sensible regulation of the right to bear arms. The whole defense against tyranny angle is comical because tens of thousands of AR-15s in the hands of macho men aren't going to make a difference against a drone that takes out electricity, water, and the interconnected food system hauling you vegetables from 2,000 miles away.

Agree. Its way beyond realistic. Silly even. What 18 yo classified as a well regulated militia?

Your scenario places the US government in a lose lose. It would be impossible to occupy and disarm tens of thousand of citizens in a large territory who are armed with AR15s and willing to fight. Our military can destroy with efficiency but they're not so efficient when it comes to occupation. The disaster that is the ME provides all the proof we need. They would be forced to destroy their own infrastructure and kill their own people to stop tens of thousands of civilians who are heavily armed and ready to kill or be killed. The day our leaders give orders to destroy infrastructure or kill civilians in mass numbers is the day they lose control and power. That ain't happening.

I think you doubt the resolve of the government determined to persevere. I know you haven’t forgot the Civil War but we have already seen that before when millions of Americans turned traitors during the civil war. An entire quarter of the country and all its own infrastructure was destroyed to bring them to their knees. It can happen again.

That's kind of my point. What if the roles were flipped and the slave states had been the "union" and the North were the good guy secessionists. Wouldn't you want the rebels to be armed?

Holy fucking shit.

I propose that we just go back to flintlocks and "don't fire till you see the whites of their eyes."

Less carnage, fewer tragic incidents and a good deal more reflection and contemplation.

Everybody WAS armed!!!!!!!!! The winner (if you can call it that) literally burned the south to the ground! Guns didn’t do shit except kill a million people. The end of the war was brought about by economic destruction. There were ZERO gun restrictions at this time with the real exception of technology.

I had this thought. The conservative/NRA peeps are gonna go out and bump sales/support big time in the immediate future.

However, I also had the thought that the NRA probably has 30 different committee meetings set for today, worried that their supporter base is going to shrink big time in the not-so-distant future based on the response from high school kids thus far.

I don't have the data handy, but I heard on the radio that millennials actually poll the highest in support of concealed carry.

I didn't think kids in high school right now were considered millennials, though I'm not sure if that would reflect in that data or not.

Generation Z or whatever these kids would be considered is where I think there could be issues for NRA down the line. Of course, it could just be a vocal minority getting screen time because of the disaster, but there were a bunch of different walkouts in my area yesterday, and the kids are planning more for the big one in April.

Btw, sausage and peppers in a tortilla is damn good.

Sorry for derailing y'all's thread tho

No, don't you dare apologize. IE is built upon a general understanding that we do not agree on nearly anything, but the one concept that brings us back from Nuketown NDNation is food.

My wife makes these Mediterranean wraps for lunch every Friday during lent, and they are most dope.

Take any kind of tortilla, but preferably wheat or spinach, spread on a generous helping of some roasted red pepper hummus, throw a bunch of feta on top of that, along with some fresh, cold diced onions, celery, black olives and cherry tomato.

One of the rare instances where I look forward to a meal with no meat or heated elements.

Switch out the tortilla for rice paper. Ditch the olives. Add cucumber sticks, fresh dill, cilantro, basil, and mint. A little garlic-soy-honey dipping sauce.

If I'm going veggie Mediterranean, I'll take as much falafel as I can eat

This Twitter thread on school shootings is one of the best things I've ever seen written on the subject:

"Here's a thought for you to ponder - an armed citizen as first responder." - from a series of signs in rural Illinois

After Newton our middle school wanted to throw a bunch of money at security. I counterpointed that I would feel better if the former military and experienced staff had handguns to keep assailant at bay for a few minutes buying valuable time for police response. Have a fingerprint safe bolted down in their office or desk - shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to secure and not advertise. Less than thirty seconds for an armed defender on hand.

The bubble lovers got apoplectic.

Also - Bro in law makes survival backpacks - as seen on Shark Tank. They have talked about Kevlar inserts for backpacks - I told him to hit hyperdrive on that idea as it would sell like hotcakes.

Folks will go to extraordinary measures for insanely low probability, but high profile concerns. But think nothing of the pool in their back yard.

If I were a ranch owner in the southwest - you can bet your ass I wouldn't feel safe with anything less than an arsenal on hand and no number of bullets in the magazine would feel like enough. City folk projecting their fears on the rest of the populace is not very considerate - especially when they are going to get mugged at the point of a handgun, not an AR15. Of those Chicago GSWs - how many are illegally owned handguns?

Just a couple weeks ago we were all concerned about our youth eating laundry detergent, now they're all suddenly guns rights experts... that town hall was an interesting watch so long as I could stomach it... why Rubio and Co ever agree to things like this is beyond me. CNN and the like would be better served just burning an effigy on live television while all their hand picked studio members all dance around it shouting political chants... it'd prob be more constructive.

The kid wanted to propose retired veterans as armed school security. CNN wasnt interested because it is the trifecta of cringe: military/guns/most likely a hetero cis male doing the job
