Legends isn't Canon, that's my point.

It isnt until it is. Like Thrawn.....like a number of stories and characters. That is my point. They are clearly using the Grey Jedi aspect of the EU.

Very good video on the music of Rogue One. This is the stuff I love with music but dont know enough about orchestration and history of music to catch these things. Worth a watch.

Regrding the Grey Jedi stuff I just watched a great video on the arch of VII-IX. It confirms much of what i have been saying and that Disney has been setting this up in Clone Wars, Rebels, and books/comics for a while.

I wont spoil so I wont post it but its out there if you so choose. I will say this...while not explicitly called such both Bendu and Asohka are pretty much canon established Grey force users.

Eh. Bendu maybe. But my reading of Ahsoka is that she's still full light side. She's certainly outside of the Jedi Order, but I don't think you'd put her in the ambiguous "middle" between the light and dark sides of the Force.

I'm not sure how I feel about what this does to the mythology either. Star Wars isn't "shades of gray" storytelling, it's good versus evil. Luke going neutral would completely torpedo his arc in Empire and Return IMO. The beauty of Luke and, by extension, Anakin is that Luke saved his father through love and devotion. Luke was more on the light side than the Jedi Order itself.

You kind of answer your own concern.

Seeking a middle-ground in the Force and changing the strictures of what it means to be a Jedi doesn't mean he can't still represent "good" in battling "evil"

Learning that "Jedi" and "Sith" do not necessarily directly equate to "good" and "evil" is just interesting storytelling IMO. Luke can say "the Jedi were dumb in restricting their members from seeking love" while simultaneously foiling some evil guy from destroying the world.

I agree with what you're saying and that's what I want to happen. But I don't consider what you're describing to be "grey Jedi."

Bendu definitely. He teaches both Kannan and Ezra balance in the Force.....By his own quotes.
The Bendu: Your imbalance woke me from a deep slumber.
Kanan Jarrus: Imbalance?
The Bendu: Your presence is like a violent storm in this quiet world.
Kanan Jarrus: You're a Force wielder... but you're not a Jedi.
The Bendu: Wielder? The Jedi and Sith wield the Ashla and the Bogan, the light and the dark.

The Bendu: [examines a Sith device] Interesting.
Kanan Jarrus: Careful, it's... dangerous.
The Bendu: How so?
Kanan Jarrus: It's a Sith holocron, it's a source of evil. My student's been using it and I'm afraid it's changing him.
The Bendu: An object can not make you good, or evil. The temptation of power, forbidden knowledge, even the desire to do good can lead some down that path. But only you can change yourself
And I dont think I could disagree more with your statement on Luke. Luke isnt the Jedi Pre-Empire. He in every way used the dark side to defeat his father at the end of ROTJ. SO much so that he beat him down and cut off his hand after Vader was already on the ground defeated. Luke did some dark shit in ROTJ.

This is exactly what the Grey Jedi from EU is. They arent aligned with either extreme and are light-sided but can tap into the dark side as needed without falling. And now there is mounting evidence that Disney is definitely going this way in its many other projects (ie Rebels and Clone Wars especially).

Do you recall the episodes where Yoda learns how to join the Force after death and commune with the Force like what Qui-gon Jinn did?

Finally watched Rogue One today. The last 10 minutes were awesome, the rest decent IMO.

SPOILER ALERT:

That scene where Vader is waiting in the shadows and slaughters all those dudes was incredible.

I woke up this morning and my wife was all pissed at me, saying I kept her awake. She said my Star Wars name would be "Snorbox Nightstriker," which is just about the best Star Wars name I've ever heard.

Yes almost certainly lol. That's funny the TFA teaser felt a lot longer when it came out. I would have guessed the Last Jedi teaser was half as long.

May 4th... a day when filthy casuals come out of the woodwork to say things like "Han shot first" or "Revenge of the Sith is the only prequel movie I liked."

May the Fourth be with you all.

And may you all attack this day with the fervor and enthusiasm of a Tusken Raider that has encountered a vulnerable traveler.

I've actually been converted into something of a "prequelist" by podcasters like Joseph Scrimshaw and Ken Napzok. As terrible as those movies are from a film making perspective, there really is some fantastic storytelling in there.

Went to the "Star Wars and the Power of Costume" traveling Smithsonian exhibit the other day.

I was pretty excited, because Star Wars, but I figured that my wife would enjoy it more with the focus on costume/fashion. I was just there to see some Stormtrooper unis and some Sith robes and I'd be good...

Boy did I geek out once I got in there and realized what a badass display they put on. My wife was dragging me along, as I was taking as much time as I could to take pictures. What was supposed to be a trip for her that would interest me ended up being a trip for me, mostly.

They saved the "Vader" room for last, and I have determined that any/all Vader concept art is my favorite. Some of the designs and illustrations are wacky and outlandish and amazing takes on Vader, and yet still familiar.

Also, the Boba Fett and Jango Fett suits are even more awe-inspiring in person. And the end of the exhibit had these interactive picture frames where you would step in, and it would display your image via video stream. Raising your left arm would transform you into Vader, C3PO, or a Stormtrooper. You could move and act as that character. Raising your right arm would cause an action of some sort. Weilding Vader's saber in real time was cool as hell.

Very cool. I heard this was coming to Cinci, it's only a 40 minute drive for me. I'll have to check it out now. Reps.

Tix are $24 each, and it's about an hour to get through.

But for a real Star Wars fan, I'd say the price+drive is still worth it.

In all seriousness, the "Star Wars Launch Bay" at Walt Disney World is great stuff for Star Wars fans. They have all kinds of goodies like the Death Star model they used for scale shots, Rey's speeder, a BB-8, tons of helmets and costumes, etc.

Started watching the Clone Wars cartoons the other day, deciding I needed to hold off on recycling The Office for at least another month or so.

If you get past the characters having different voices (with a couple of exceptions) and the cartoon animations, they are legit. Almost non-stop action, and legitimate "war sucks" actions and lessons.

I've been watching them in the Universe's chronological order, rather than the release order. It's a bit jumbled at first, but paying attention to the stories from the episodes that are "out of order" allows you to piece together the timeline of the action. Also, the third "episode" you watch in this order is actually the theatrical release of the The Clone Wars, and it's a nice 1.5 hours of entertainment that actually had me fearing for the fate of a Hutt. Star Wars: The Clone Wars Chronological Episode Order | StarWars.com

Pleased thus far.
