Al Borges will not be retained according to official UM twitter

Brady Hoke said straight up after the season that no changes were coming to the staff. So this is a bit unexpected. Al Borges was making comical amounts of money at Michigan.

Anybody know if this will effect their offensive commits? Maybe a waffle from guys like Drake Harris or Bushell-Beatty?

I think Hoke was giving the ultimatum regarding Borges. You are gone if you don't fire Borges.

This is the best thing that could have happened to michigan. That offense was a joke every time they didn't play ND or O$U (and that one game against Minnesota before they found their stride).

Haha wow. 4 of Michigan's 7 offensive commitments reported to schools as EE's Monday. Coincidence that he was fired after they reported? I think not.

As bad as UM's offense was at times, this stuns me. The guy Hoke trusted so thoroughly that he didn't even wear a headset to keep abreast of what he was even doing, he now doesn't trust?

I guess these things always come about suddenly though. ADs always say they have complete confidence in their head coaches ... right up till the day they fire them. Maybe this is the same thing.

Wow. And here I was wondering why he was fired so late. Well, now we know.

Lol wow... so shady... especially with Brady publicly announcing that no changes would be made to the staff.

Hokes words were that he didn't "forsee" any staff changes. I am sure they gave him the "your job is on the line if the ship doesn't improve."
Someone also said, it might have been Hoke, that him and Borges didn't see eye to eye on the offensive scheme.

Have classes started yet? I thought the clock started the first day of class, not necessarily when they got to campus. Am I off on that?

Yeah, I think you're right that he got pressure applied after the fact and had to make the change to appease some people. The full quote was that he didn't "anticipate any changes" to the staff. Then he was pressed on with a follow up question of something like "so you're planning on keeping the staff together in the same roles?" (don't remember if this part directly) and then he said "correct."

It seemed far more emphatic than your typical "we're going to evaluate everyone and..." with just a slight crack in the door left open in the door on his initial comment that he then closed on his succinct answer to the follow up. People thought the only way the staff would change would be if someone took a promotion somewhere or otherwise left on their own volition. I don't know of anyone who saw this coming.

No way. Hoke's seat is just barely getting warm. He's a bad two years away from the administration pushing him around like that.

No way, IMO. His seat is plenty warm now, and a lot of people are already convinced he's not a good coach, but enough think he deserves one more shot. Another 8 win season, and he's the hottest seat in the country IMO if not fired.

So next year, when they lose 5 games again... I doubt that recruits are going to believe the staff that they'll be around when they get there.
