Fill in the blanks Phork:
Goal here is to win the B1G and go to the Rose Bowl. And if you are fortunate enough to win all of your games, you can shoot for the next one (1997).
I don't see where the glass house comes from. Nor did I mention graduation rates. I was pointing out how their players are morons. "We ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS". I would love to see some of the classes they took, because I'm pretty sure football players get special treatment there when it comes to grades to keep them eligible and "graduating" so they can boast about something.
Michigan doesn't treat academics seriously for their athletes, but as an academic institution generally, it makes us sound a bit absurd to claim it's not on par with ND.And at least OSU doesn't claim to be an elite academic institution on par with Stanford and ND. Talk about delusional...

For undergrad, that's a completely legitimate claim. UM is a large state school with some elite graduate programs, but their undergraduate is nothing special. Fortunately for them, most recruits can't make that distinction, so they trade off the reputation of their graduate programs in recruiting, despite the fact that it's completely irrelevant to the education such players will receive.
See for yourself. An undergraduate degree from ND is worth roughly doubly the average undergraduate degree from UM.
Sure. I agree - UM doesn't do much more for their athletes than Alabama or Ohio State. But it's an extremely respected institution overall. The U.S. News World's Best Universities rankings, ranking UM 17th. I didn't say undergraduate.Never have they been in the top 20 or even very close. They're currently #29. Don't know why you would think they are #17 or where you would've heard that unless you live in Michigan and have your head filled with propaganda. Or are an undercover Michigan troll... which is maybe more plausible.

Like Whiskey said, they have a very elite graduate school for certain programs. And their undergraduate engineering has some really strong programs (not dissimilar from a Penn State or Illinois). But they're also just a big state school and like every big state school they have a large chunk of very "meh" students, large class sizes, and joke majors.
To claim they're on par with a Brown, Cornell, Rice, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt (the schools actually in the 15-17 range) for undergraduate education is just ludicrous.

I don't care about UM, I just think rival fans think we look silly saying they're not a good academic institution.
Ha! I said I'd give you 10 doll hairs, not dollars!
"Best Universities" doesn't apply to the discussion. We're talking the institution from which the student-athlete receives the degree.

F*ck other fans. What, if we start saying um is a good school because they've got kick-a$$ graduate programs, they won't dislike ND anymore? Screw that. um is one of the best public schools. When comparing undergrad educations, they are not on ND's level.

I just went through this with a friend. Michigan has a great Medical School, is really good in some graduate sciences, has a well received law school, etc.
QS World University Rankings.
US - University of Michigan
World Rank: 17
Score / Rank
World Rank 91.17 17
Academic Reputation 99.8 17
Employer Reputation 96.1 27
Faculty Student 92 63
Citations per Faculty 87.3 54
International Faculty 50.6 234
International Students 46.5 258
So, in conclusion, you're a troll. Or you're an idiot. And looking at your post history... I'm really not sure which... but it's one of them.
But the worst part is that I'm sure Michigan is showing this piece of crap out of context "ranking" to recruits and the like to demonstrate how Michigan is the "best school in the world" or something like that. And they all probably buy it hook, line, and sinker. And then will get funneled into joke majors with worthless degrees where a large chunk won't even graduate. It's both sad and pathetic.
Again... and really not to be a d*ck here Bogs... but no one has ever said that Michigan doesn't have elite graduate programs. This QS bullsh*t has absolutely zero correlation whatsoever to:
1. Undergrad
2. Real life in the United States
The ranking weights international students (????) and international faculty (??????) as if they have any bearing on quality of education. It then takes an international straw poll on "reputation" among employers/academics... so basically, I reject the premise that a CEO in India or professor in Korea knows anything about undergraduate instruction or the quality of undergraduate students at Notre Dame vs. Michigan.
This is a ranking of overall graduate program "reputation" which is worthless or flawed in its own right. But obviously, the schools with large engineering/science research programs and medical schools will be at or near the top (in large part because those are quite international). Notre Dame... which doesn't even have a medical school because of Indiana law and is a small, parochial school focused on undergraduate education... won't even pop up on the radar of a "global" survey like this.

This thread is troll bait. Wolverine1997 made his final stand here.
Mildly infuriating.
I can't stand stuff like this. It's meaningless if you don't include private schools and if your metric for measuring athletic prowess is 'total athletic expenses'! What a ****ing joke.
A meat chicken grad that I know posted this on facebook last night and I pointed out to her that private schools weren't included - and that surely ND and Stanford would make the list.
