It's About Depth
It's About Depth
I've never heard Coach Kelly as optimistic as he was at yesterday's press conference. He's clearly delighted about the number of defensive players who'll see action this year, including seven-----seven!----freshmen.
We haven't had this kind of depth, on both sides of the ball, since the Holtz era. Kelly has built this program methodically over the past four years and I think and hope it's going to pay big dividends this year. Maybe it's wishful thinking (I don't think so) but we're a hell of a lot better than the media is projecting.
Depth is the key. The SEC is not better because it has better #!'s. It predominates because its top teams have significantly better #2's and 3's than everybody else. We're not quite there yet, but we're a lot closer than we were two years ago.
Good things are going to happen this year, I think. It's critical that we beat the s**t out of UM. Not only to give them a well-deserved going away present but to solidify the team's confidence, particularly Golson's. If we beat UM handily, we'll be a 10 or 11 win team. I'd love to think we could run the table but that's unrealistic at this point.
I"m more excited this year than I have been since 1993.
