That's great news. Especially for Turner, who was kind of a oft-maligned recruit on this board. Good for him.

Pretty clear confirmation that we plan to use a lot of multiple-tight-end sets. If we were only using one tight end at a time, 5 tight ends would be plenty.

What was the question? That response from BK doesn't really say anything. "We have noticed them at safety". Well I hope so, especially with Baratti going down.

I excited for TJ and Davaris. Haven't had that solid of a 1-2 punch at WR (not counting Eifert/ Floyd) for a while, IMO.

I see us forming up very very much like Alabama. I'm not saying we are on their level, because the NCG shows us we aren't. But with an experienced signal caller in Tommy, and a good OLine, I can see us running the ball with our stable and using those weapons Tommy has to have him throw the ball out of play action or when they are stacking/blitzing to try and stop the run.

Good backs, good line, good receivers, and I think Hercules breaks out this year. Tommy just has to go in there and be A.J McCarron. Our defense is getting deeper so we can be much more versatile this year. Golson going out was a blow, but I like the way the team is shaping up.

Don't think there was any question. He was just talking about all the Safeties

Lol at Pete Sampson stating a couple weeks ago Russell was being overrated and he expected Lo to be the starter over him against Temple.

Seriously. That was one of the most ridiculous arguments I've ever read from a legitimate insider.

I'm excited for them too but really? I feel like we have been spoiled with Stovall/ Samardzija, McKnight/Samardzija, and Tate/Floyd. It's just nice to finally have balance with the entire team instead of being explosive in just one area. I also though Eifert/Jones last year were great. Not knocking on you bro, but we forget too fast sometimes.

That...and perhaps that BK feels the 2 FR are not ready to get on the field real soon.

Not sure about the whole A.J. comparison (although I know what you are trying to get at), but the bolded above, plus BK's comment about Tommy and the improvement of the RZ offense, sounds real nice.

short memory? I would say last year was the first year without a major WR threat since 2007 and before that we had the Shark with Stovall and Rhema. I would say we have had a great run over the years.

2012 - Eifert
2011 - Eifert / Floyd
2010 - Eifert / Floyd / Rudolph
2009 - Floyd / Tate / Rudolph
2008 - Tate / Floyd / Rudolph

This was a major struggle 2 years ago.

I wasn't counting TE's (Eifert and Rudolph), so maybe since '09 but that was really a dramatically different team and scenario, IMO (no Kelly, poor D, etc.).

It was a major struggle last year too.

I looked at the stats and we actually score more RZ TDs 2 years ago (but had less chances in the RZ) but had a better total scoring percentage last year. What winning does for one's perception. LOL.

And a special lol at the goobers on here that went along with it.

Basically he has to go out there an not **** it up. The other aspects should be good enough for that to be the case. He'll have to make throws, but ideally we won't put him in a bad situation. If we do he's shown he can do some things when required, so I feel pretty good.

I think we'll be very successful with that formula. Think of us as the West Canaan Coyotes against Gilbert for the district title. "We are a running team." "Stick to the basics. Stick to the basics. Stick to the basics." Tommy may even make Kelly go red in the face at some point again. "**** for brains this ain't no ****in' sandlot."

You guys are tripping if you think Malik will see the field this season. You have 2 guys on their 4th season with Kelly. He will not play a true freshman nor should you ever play one at QB unless you have absolutely no other choice.

To play devil's advocate, I think Floyd missed some or most of 3 of those 4 seasons with injuries, yeah? Rudolph was out most of 2010 too, wasn't he? I don't think we've kept a decent, healthy WR duo since Rhema and Shark imo.

I am not disagreeing with you wholly, but IIRC BK said Malik has been taking snaps during camp (not with scout team). My guess is after 4 years, Kelly knows both TR's and AH's limitations, and will not hesitate to pull them if performing poorly or making bad decisions.

I have a hard time picturing a scenario where TR and AH play bad enough that we require MZ, but if we are winning games and they both play bad consistently, I could see MZ getting some PT. I have not heard BK specifically rule out using MZ.

Wasn't Rhema on a sixth year as well?

Agreed and agreed. I seriously doubt that Malik will play this year, but I do think there is a very slight chance, depending on how Tommy and Andrew play and whether they get injured, that he'll see the field.

Na, 5th year only I think, but I think he got some playing time as a freshman if I recall, and then an injury or two left him out some seasons. It may have felt like 6 as a result

I would think any scenerio with Malik at QB this season would likely not be good news for the Irish.

I've got to agree with this. Maybe Kelly does something where Rees starts, Malik gets some mop up duty or change of pace when things are comfortable in the unlikely event that Golson doesn't return...but Malik starting is not a good idea. Golson struggled at times in his first year, and he had a year under Kelly before taking snaps.

Forget any kind of designed QB running plays for this year, they're not really going to be in playbook. Yeah, Tommy is supposed to be more mobile this year, but I expect this is mostly to keep him safe and create the illusion he may take off if receivers are covered. I fully expect him to throw the ball away if a play isn't there. This offense will be predicated on the run behind an experienced line, play action passes, and maybe the occasional intermediate pass to Niklas or DD/TJ.
