Translation: Smythe and Heuerman need some serious Longo time before they're prepared for BCS football.

If anyone is interested espn projected us to play georgia in the allstate sugar bowl.
Projecting participants for every bowl game - College Football - ESPN

Meh, I was hoping for Fiesta or Orange bowl. Would rather face the ACC or Big 12 this year. Theres always the possibility that Stanford or OSU get to the NCG this year and the Irish could take a Rose Bowl berth since the Rose Bowl isn't obligated to take the #2 team from a conference if the conference champion is going to the NCG. Whatever SEC team doesn't make it to the NCG (I'm guessing it's a foregone conclusion one will make it), that #2 team will show up to the Sugar either with a chip on their shoulder, or apathetic ala 2012 Florida. I'll take my chances with the ACC or Big 12.

Screw that. Give us the SEC again.

It so did...

Of the three big receivers to come out during Weis's early years (Stovall, Shark, Rhema), I was always rooting most for Rhema. I just enjoyed watching him play, and was a big fan from the time he started as a frosh. Not saying I didn't enjoy seeing the Shark or Stovall rack up TD's...but it was a bit devastating when McKnight went down in that Michigan game in '05. He gave us one of the two TDs to win. Can you imagine a better trio of WRs if he stayed healthy that year? Worked out I guess, as it allowed Stovall to step up and make an impact, and we got McKnight back with the Shark for '06.

I just want the best chance possible to walk out of the BCS era with one big bowl win. People last year were clamoring for a chance at Alabama. I was pulling for Oregon or Kansas State to remain undefeated

Not that anyone has taken a snap this year, so we don't know a thing about any of the teams...but you guys would rather take a less favorable BCS matchup over a favorable one? I'm kind of tired of the underdog role myself.

I want the Irish to play in the best Bowl against the best team that they can. We are going to be underdogs until we completely turn the corner. I don't think we have a choice in the matter. Because of our national draw, bowl committees will reach for us.

I'd rather play the best team.

I am not disagreeing with you wholly, but IIRC BK said Malik has been taking snaps during camp (not with scout team). My guess is after 4 years, Kelly knows both TR's and AH's limitations, and will not hesitate to pull them if performing poorly or making bad decisions.

I have a hard time picturing a scenario where TR and AH play bad enough that we require MZ, but if we are winning games and they both play bad consistently, I could see MZ getting some PT. I have not heard BK specifically rule out using MZ.

I think that Kelly's experience with injuries at QB always keeps him thinking of preparing multiple QBs. I doubt that if MZ sees the field it will be because of poor performance. I think it would be more of a medical issue... Anything can happen I guess. I personally prefer not see a true freshman on the field so I don't suffer of a heart attack.

That said, I think MZ will be a fine QB down the road.

I'm surprised no one brought up this quote from Kelly:

"Daniels doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. So, I wouldn't listen to him. He hasn't had enough time to figure out what the hell he's doing."

It was said in jest...kinda?

Is that from today? Didn't see it in the transcript on ISD.

What question was this in response to?

I'll go back and find it but that quote without the context is not remotely accurate to how it sounded and was perceived. IIRC, it had something to do with running the pistol offense. I'm assuming its a wrinkle in the offense that they weren't supposed to be talking about and that is the way Kelly downplayed it.

So, the question was in regards to Daniels saying the other day that in the pistol offense the offensive lineman have more responsibilities or different responsibilities and that was kelly's answer. Watch the presser on UND.com it wasn't like an Oh **** moment.

They were saying after talking to DD about the pistol formation, Daniels said the line blocking calls were more difficult for the line than the receivers, and so the reporter asked CBK specifically about how the pistol formation placed added pressure on the o-line.

Daniels said it was harder for linemen to adjust to the Pistol offense than the receivers. I suspect Kelly didn't like Daniels talking about the Pistol to reporters. My speculation is that the Pistol will be used to get Atkinson the ball at a deeper depth.

Many people still considered us the underdog despite ranking.

i understand that. im more of the consensus as a couple people above. i want to play the best competition. i dont care if we're underdogs or favorites. SEC be damned.

i've always liked that question:
would you take a BCS win over a NC loss?

cheap wins or easy wins suck. wouldnt it you feel cheated if we got UCONN in the "oh, well, i guess we'll watch this bowl" bowl? Even if its the Fiesta?

Dropkick Murphy lyrics come to mind:
You're the fighter you've got the fire
The spirit of a warrior, the champion's heart
You fight for your life because the fighter never quits
You make the most of the hand you're dealt
Because the quitter never wins
No!

Lot of good one on ones there.

Ishaq finally getting the best of Niklas.

Martin continuing to stone Tuitt.

Chris Brown burning Redfield.

K. Russel making Onawala look foolish.

Edit - It was Koyac, not Niklas.

I'm not really worried about Tuitt but man Martin has got the best of him 3 or 4 times in the little 2 mins we get to see.

Kona has been impressive every time he is shown.

Just a little thing but Sheldon "breaking it down" is impressive sign of approval for a true sophomore. Usually Kelly calls on the upperclassmen for that.

Man, Chris Brown has some burners

We're seeing only what FIDM very consciously chooses to reveal. Maybe it's a inside joke that they're only showing Tuitt struggling, or maybe it's a serious attempt at misdirection. But I have a very hard time believing that's a representative sample of Tuitt's performance.

I can't really see a scenario where we would play UCONN in the Fiesta. In most cases it's probably going to be a decent Big 12 team, in which case I'd probably be fine. I'd take a win in the Fiesta over Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Kansas State, or similar strength opponent as oppose to a NCG loss...unless it was a real close game maybe.
