Hell of a move for ND. Alligns them PERFECTLY to join a conference that couldn't be a better fit IF their hand is forced into joining a conference, but for the immediate future it ensures their independence. Damn it feels good to be a gangster.

@ESPNAndyKatz: Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick said 2015-16 for ND unless it can accelerated. ACC will respect BE exit process.

ACC's Notre Dame rules: Irish only need be w/i 1 win of an eligible ACC team to get picked over that ACC school..Ouch!

This is where the whine fom the fans will come. Rich Rodriguez was outraged when ND got picked over WVU for a BE slot.

5 ACC (1 of which is the Shamrock Series)
Navy
USC
State
Stanford
Purdue all stay on the yearly schedule.

IMO- They absolutely need to play in California every year.

That leaves two games to schedule an early and a mid-season "win".

*they also need to somehow schedule Navy the week before GT the years they play both :)

@laurakeeley Swarbrick: BC will no longer play ND every year in football. Will be part of the #ACC rotation

Also, to be clear - Spetman says either FSU or ND would host a game, then the return game would be 3 years later. Not back-to-back seasons

Swarbrick wants to have the ACC rotation for football scheduling to start in '14.

‏@NDatRivals
Swarbrick says that USC, Stanford and Navy will be protected (without naming USC and Stanford). Everything else up for grabs.

Makes sense... gives a class a chance to play every team and three of them twice.

Unfortunately it eliminates any sense of "revenge" that might keep them from becoming true rivals with any of the teams we aren't already in a rivalry with.

Well if Michigan is left out, let's leave them with a nice *** whooping the next couple years, eh?

I think ND needs to get rid of Michigan and State if they could. I realize they won't do this, so at least let's hope they get rid of one of them. The bottom line is that they need to get out of the midwest. This is their big chance to climb ahead of their main midwest recruiting rivals(UM and Ohio State, but mostly UM). You do this by getting out of the midwest whenever possible. ND should play 2 games in Cali if they can. USC is a must and I guess Stanford, wouldn't mind seeing them play Cal because they are in disarray right now. Try to play a weaker team now and then in Texas too. This is just my opinion and I am not saying I know what Swarbrick will do. I will say that that dude is the man.

I dont know if i like the idea of not playing "rival" schools in the ACC. I would have like to play BC or Miami or FSU every year

Just my thoughts:

NORTH
Notre Dame
Virginia
Boston College
Maryland
Pitt
Syracuse
Virginia Tech

SOUTH
Duke
Wake Forest
North Carolina
Georgia Tech
Miami
Clemson
Florida State
NC State

A friend & I were talking about this at work. He said that there's talk of UConn also going to the ACC. If this happens, put UConn in the North Division. This would make an unbeatable basketball conference and football wouldn't be too shabby either when/if the time came.

Honestly, I dont see a problem with scheduling 5 acc, navy, usc, stanford, michigan/state every year and then we've got 2 games to arrange the texas/oklahoma marquee matchups, or include purdue every once in a while. I think we'll get our cupcakes from the ACC. besides, i kinda like being the only team in the FBS without any real cupcakes.

Duke
Georgia Tech
UNC

ATLANTIC

Wake Forest

FSU

Oh... i know. I was just doing some rearranging. :)

I was just thinking maybe those teams stay the same and we add in the new teams.

I doubt that FSU and ND are same division so that would put us in Coastal.

Then Pitt to Atlantic?

Coastal would be pretty tough with:

ND
Virginia Tech
Virginia
Miami
Duke
Georgia Tech
UNC

It wouldn't even compare to Atlantic:

Pitt
Wake Forest
Clemson
FSU
Maryland
NC State
BC

Yeah but ND needs to win a consistent amount of games every year. They also need their recruiting footprint to be as big as possible. I don't think you want your lower end teams to be rivalry games in which the rival cares about the rivalry more than ND and you don't want to play too many games in the midwest. So Michigan/state are not that useful to ND. Purdue is useless. So it would be nice to get rid of these midwest teams and go beyond what UM and Ohio State can do by having a bigger footprint.

What's the big hurry to get rid of michigan? If there's any team I want to have the chance to beat every year it's them (and usc).

The all-time win percentage battle is more fun if the two teams get to play. It's one of the most recognized and historical rivalries in all of college football (michigan more or less taught Notre Dame to play football). Regardless of contract issues, I don't see why we dump this so quickly. What am I missing?

EDIT: And I understand the whole recruiting outside of the midwest idea, but why wouldn't we drop purdue and state before we drop michigan?

I think well rotate Michigan and State honesty. Can't see us dropping them either

Could actually just add one more ACC team to the 2015 schedule and it would be set. 2016 will require some shuffling since I don't believe we will be able to play Syracuse, BC and Pitt in consecutive years.

9-5 Texas
9-12 @ Michigan
9-19 @ Purdue
9-26 Temple
9-26 Akron
10-17 Southern California
11-7 Wake Forest
11-14 @ Pittsburgh
11-21 Syracuse
11-28 @ Stanford
TBA @ Boston College

2016

9-3 @ Texas
9-10 Michigan
9-17 Stanford
9-24 @ Michigan State
10-1 Purdue
10-8 Miami FL
10-29 Pittsburgh
11-19 @ Army
11-26 @ Southern California
TBA Boston College
TBA Syracuse @East Rutherford, NJ

Probably best option for ND all things considered. Big East is weakening(no Pitt, Syracuse, WV, and UConn on way out). Big 12 was courting them, but I never saw that ND was a fit there. Obviously this is a major brush off of Big 10.

not gonna lie, us talking about which division of the conference is stronger is kinda making ill... we sound like a conference team.

Does ND not play Navy in 2015 or 2016? I doubt ND will ever quit playing Navy.

2015 looks ok 2016 looks like too much. As to the previous poster who asked what's wrong with UM, I'm just saying there is a difference between what fans want(to see ND beat UM) and what is good for the program. I just don't see what the positives are in playing Michigan and State besides of course appeasing those who want those continued for the sake of tradition. It doesn't help otherwise I don't think.
