And Crist “won” the job as well, just couldn’t keep it. Don’t really care about who wins it, care about who keeps it.

Point is, neither Zaire or Wimbush were the answer that everyone expected. They were older, given their chance, and ultimately lost the position to younger less heralded prospects. Malik was rated a fair amount higher coming out of HS than Kizer.

This just isn't true as written about Malik. He didn't lose his position to Kizer, the Kizer who lost the QB competition to Malik was given the job week #2 when Malik got hurt. A post injury Malik couldn't beat out a then better, more experienced, Kizer who grew leaps and bounds during the season that Malik sat on the sidelines rehabing. Sometimes in the beginning, you inherit something instead of earning it. That's how sports work. You job as the replacement is to seize the moment and not give back the spot. Worked for Lou Gehrig when he pipped some star named Wally . . . something.

As far as rating's, 247 had Kizer at a 94 vs Malik's 90. Rival had Malik at a 5.9 vs DeShone's 5.8.

The why he lost the job is irrelevant to what I said. He lost his job and never got it back. And that was not what everybody thought would happen. Which is the point of why I said it. Zaire was supposed to be the face of the program. Just like Crist and Wimbush. They all lost the jobs to inferior/younger prospects. They all have that in common.

You were making sense until you used the wrong words again. The player he lost a QB competition to was NOT the same inferior QB he defeated in the spring/summer competition . .. and who took over for him when he was injured @ UVa.

He lost it to a a superior & more experienced QB who improved greatly during the season while Malik never looked like the pre-injury Malik again.

This is your statement that started this. It just isn't true.

ND fans have been wrong about who the next starting QB is going to be

If you would have left it at we thought the Malik or Brandon Era's would have been more enduring, then yeah ok. But Malik has a lot of false narrative about him and his time at ND, how he needed Kizer to bail him out at UVa, blah blah blah. We'll never know what could have been because he got hurt and his window closed.

I’ve become immune to it,.. if they’re rated high at QB, they’ll bust,... if they’re a three star filler or below, they just might do something. That’s my default at this point,...

8 of the top 11 QB’s are in attendance so for him to be #10 is pretty impressive. Disappointed DJ didn’t go cause he’s special to watch but 6 of the 9 guys ahead of him in the elite 11 rankings are higher in the composite 247. Pyne making it to the Opening Finals would be awesome. I believe 12 out of 20 advance to the Opening finals so that would be awesome for Drew. Any chance you have to be going against elite competition or be competing in the best events, it’s good for your growth. It can only help ND that their last 3 QB commits have been in the Elite 11.

Meyer at UF wanted him bad too, which was crazy

He was the slightly less powerful, faster version of Tim Tebow*.

He actually seemed to be on a decent developmental path in 2011 despite BK largely misusing him, but all of the different developments between '12 and '13 ruined all of his potential progress.

*Urban's pitch to him in recruiting, I'm sure

I really wanted Malik to pickup where he left off when he returned from injury, but it never happened. There were a lot of factors involved, but it was already mentioned that the offense was changed a bit when Kizer took over to tailor it more to his strengths, and that probably hurt Malik as a result. The running game took a backseat in 2016 and that was never going to be good for Malik's game. The tandem of Procise and Adams in 2015 accounted for 2700 yards on the ground (Along with a bit from Kizer), but we only gained 1900 on the ground the next year. The running game was significantly weaker, and maybe that's why we were throwing the ball a head scratching number of times in a hurricane that season.
Regardless, it was clear Malik in 2015 was the answer after what the Spring game showed us. Fortunately Kizer rebounded and was able to adapt to a scaled down offense to lead us to victory once Malik got injured. It just goes to show you should never count out a QB on your roster. It's funny to go back and read Tommy's recruitment to see how many people questioned picking him and how he would never see the field. His class ended up with the most wins of any over the last 20+ years and Tommy was the starter for most of them.

He’s now gonna be one of the 12 QB’s moving onto the opening I believe. I think there’s like 20 QB’s and after 3 days they have 6 teams of 2 QB’s for 7on7’s and the rest get sent home. For him to finish 5th after 3 days of QB specific drills is really impressive.

Most years yes they are not good. The town he lives in is one of the smallest if not the smallest towns in the league.

If CT is anything like TX, then lots of schools schedule out of district games with powerhouses. My alma mater typically opens the year with 3 or 4 games against teams with at least 1 state title in the last few years in their respective division and/or class. A couple years ago they got slaughtered in those games but then swept their district and made a run in the regional playoffs. That doesn't necessarily explain his stats, but hopefully it's that simple.

Although his commitment was never in question, both Georgia and Tennessee tried to flip him, per Loy

Currently of the field in Under Armour game, dropped back and then took off up the middle for about 6 yds. Wearing #12 in white.

I don't trust Tennessee's judgement, but Georgia chasing him gives me the warm and fuzzies.
