Seriously. Does the staff not think he is good enough to play at ND? As its already been said, we don't have enough DTs as it is. He isn't Pete M or Brandon Tiassum yet we took them.
Who are we even in a race for if we aren't taking Cage?
Donovan Jeter.
If GB has heard correctly, maybe he's not a take until Jeter makes up his mind and they definitely will only take 3 DT's unless a longterm injury or someone leaves for whatever reason before NSD next Feb.
I'd bet the house if Jeter wasn't in the picture and Cage said I'm coming, he'd be an instant take. They aren't close with anyone else in '17 at this point..
Aren't there some "fit" concerns with Jeter? Certainly seemed to be on his thread awhile back.
Makes zero sense to me to slow play a top-ten DL recruit while we wait on a guy who, even if he commits, would still have fit issues that could crop up at any time. Especially when that top DL has a brother on the team and would be a flip from Ohio State. Worst case: We land both of them. Oh no! It's not like we're going to use all 85 scholarships anyway.
That's what the guys in his thread thought. I read his Twitter feed, he definitely has a porous filter. I have no idea if the staff has a problem with him(?) There was a public, group effort to recruit him by the WPa guys, that doesn't happen without the staffs' direction one would think.
I say take them both too... if that's an option. Wouldn't surprise me if one more current DT left for whatever reason.
what does the bolded mean?
It wouldn't surprise me if one more current DT on ND's roster left before graduating.
I've been so impressed with his brothers play this year. Daniel after playing 4 years for ND, I think could be a 3rd round pick.
Still baffled why we don't just go take this kid. Seems like he's ours if we want him.

I don't get why we wouldn't take this kid if he's interested. Is he not a take for any other reason other than football related reasons? With our history of poor DL play and inability to maintain 85 schollies, why the f**k wouldn't we take him?
Exactly. If he's good enough in Jan, he's good enough now and I take him AND Jeter. He's a Top 10 DT. I don't pass that up and he get's extra legacy points too.
Seriously, if it comes down to him or OLB Wilder from FL or a filler safety or another WDE reach, they better chose Cage pt. deaux
Wilder is a much better prospect than Cage. I think the staff wants to see Cage senior film and go from there.

True, but I thought he wasn't so much looking at ND until recently, and that's only because Urban is recruiting over the kid. So it's a process for Jerron and the staff.Ugh, I mean I get that, but seriously - when is the last time we started a season close to 85 schollies? Isn't this Cage a better prospect than his brother was at this stage in high school? I'd say that turned out pretty well so far.

The truth about the Jones family and ND is, they had been unhappy with ND for a couple of reasons (that were more on Michael than the ND staff). This spring, the lightbulb came on for him and this year he has been playing a lot and playing really well. I saw his parents after the game in the tunnel as they were waiting for the players to come out, and they seemed MUCH happier than the last time I saw them.
Michael's turnaround at ND, fueling IMHO his parents' turnaround on their feelings about ND, which I would venture to say has fueled Jerron's turnaround on HIS feelings at ND. I'd also venture to say that Ohio State isn't exactly upset with Jerron looking around, as they have bigger fish to fry and are more than ready to move on from Jerron.
I'm not in the camp of taking a kid you don't truly want. For every Luke Kuchkley (sp), there are 100 John Turners and other never-was's across the country. But if Jerron can help this team (I'm no expert), then I'd take him. But don't take him just to get another body in there, IMHO, when in your heart you don't believe he will ever contribute. That accomplishes nothing but creating a headache later down the road (unhappy kid who isn't playing, unhappy parents creating problems that coaches don't have time to deal with that type of crap).

Seems to me That Nd would take Jeter right now but not necessarily Jerron
