Swarbrick already addressed this today. Brian Kelly will be HC next year regardless of rest of season.

Is that the vaunted backing up, vote of confidence Jack laid in Kelly? Meaning he will eventually be fired this season.

I don't think so but it's definitely a possibility. Prior to the firing of BVG, BK said he is happy with "the coaching" which can be spun easily to cover Lyght, Gilmore, Easton, etc. I don't remember him saying he is happy with BVG specifically. For Jack to come out and say BK will be here next year and then turn around and fire him would cause a lot more damage and loss of trust. He could have said many other things besides "BK will be the head coach of Notre Dane next year" if there was any chance he would be fired IMO.

Despite the fact that Swarbrick already said that he is not coaching for his job. And Jack is someone, who, if he threw his name into the election today, would probably get elected in a landslide in 2 weeks. But no matter, we have any number of "experts" here to tell you why Brian Kelly should be gone, including Devaris Daniels, Jimmy "I don't want to compete for a starting job" Clausen, and any number of posters.

I would think something along the lines of "you've done enough your previous years here to earn a shot at redemption" but I'm pretty sure Jack would set a bar that is a "miss it and you're done". What that is, who knows but it shouldn't be 9-3. I would hope it's a playoffs or NY6 bowl or your gone.

We won't know till Feb. Right now there isn't a spot for him but if we keep whiffing and OSU lands another couple five stars they probably will force Cage out. Right now he isn't a take for ND

He's a top ten player at a position of eternal need. His older brother plays for us (and plays well, I might add). And we just lost Jeter, who previously was the reason we didn't want Cage.
On the surface it makes zero sense. Is there something I'm not seeing? Do they think he'll be there til the end and they can go after other guys knowing Cage is in the back pocket? That always works so well. Or are we holding off on front sevens until we have a DC and know what kind of system they'd play in?

To add to this, there is a lot of eligibility at DT, currently on the roster. So, I think the staff is currently in the midst of deciding, how to manage that eligibility. As I mentioned in a post on another thread, I'd like to see more of a 5th year presence on this team. I think guys like Elijah Taylor could be very valuable as a 5th year senior. However, that might not be the same for a Brandon Tiassum.

Fair enough. I claim no expertise in the nuances of player development along the defensive line. I just know one can never have too many good ones. And that Cage, if you believe the rankings, appears more talented than most of the d linemen we've picked up in recent years.
I also generally think it's good karma to recruit talented siblings, and good business to steal commits from OSU.

Yep. That can be a problem. Counterbalanced by traumatic memories of, say, the 2014 USC game when we're burning redshirts just to have warm bodies on the DL.

Maybe no hot seat as of today but let's wait until the season is over. If they finish 4-8 or worse then Swarbrick might look at things differently. If they are 5-7 or better than I think he is back next year. Things can change if the record gets worse over the last 5 games.

Not being a smartazz bro but the 3 prior jackholes didn't lower the bar, they just slid under it from where Rockne, Leahy, Ara, Devine and Lou placed it.

I saw 3 of those men's teams win championships. I don't buy that it can't be done and that 8-5 or even 9-4 are acceptable on a yearly basis.

Notre Dame is a meritocracy. You earn your way in, you earn your stay and you earn the manner in which you depart. It's no different if you're a student, faculty, Jack Swarbrick or Brian Kelly. Brian Kelly deserves to be fired. Will he is still in his hands according to Swarbrick.

Anyone who thinks ND plays on a even level with other schools only needs to look at the text in bold above. Cage is COMMITTED to OSU... it shouldn't matter how "tight" the numbers get, he has already reserved a number for himself.

I won't mind if Cage does end up at ND, but if he does he is living proof that ND can not recruit using the same rules as other top schools.

I have read where (I think it was Tom Lemming) Jerron is better than Daniel. I have not been that impressed by our front 7 this year. We have some good guys coming in, but if Jerron wants in I don't say no to him.

I've read the same and am with you on this. IMO we need to get one more high quality DT, one or two DE's (especially a pass rushing WDE), a WR, an OT, certainly a safety and Thomas Graham. Thoughts?
