Prior to us taking the lead, Wiltfong's sources told him pretty straight up that it was PSU. When asked if he should change his CB, he was told "No". Obviously not the case now.

I'll say with almost 100% certainty that Wiltfong's source was HJ himself. Wiltfong is close with the stars in Indy. I heard this from one of the current recruit's father.

Yea, I was going to say either HJ or his dad.

So basically Wiltfong likely changed his CB to ND because Hunter told him to change it?

The world of recruiting never ceases to amaze.

How one picks Penn State over Notre amazes me they should only get the kids we recruit by default like no more room at Notre Dame for them or we did not offer like Sean. James Frankin is a hack.

Yea, and isn't that the point. Wiltfong's job is to get the best and most credible sources for information, then share that information with his customers. In this case he has the best and most credible source possible.

No doubt, it just makes the idea of a crystal ball seem cart-before-the-horse-ish.

Oh really, I guess I kind of think of it the other way around. If I'm going to follow a writers crystal ball, I want it to be somebody that has some really good sources or conviction behind why.

So, for the first time in this recruitment we actually have a real, tangible reason to feel confident? Like.

Did PSU screw the pooch here by taking that other kid's verbal or do you think this is more about them feeling like they no longer had a realistic shot?

I think they saw the writing on the wall after the Invasion things began to change with Hunter so they hedged their bet

If Hunter does end up committing, what kind of an impact would/could that have on the 2016 class? I'd expect to see a bump in 2017 for sure, but any way this could give us some added muscle this year?

Doubtful. Considering that we almost certainly would redshirt him because it's BK and this kid is a QB, the first chance a 2016 kid has to play with Hunter would be his junior year in Hunter's first real college season. That's not a good reason to pick a school.

Definitely would help with the 2017 class though.

Maybe for a WR or TE, but we are almost full and mcKinney may jump on board. At TE I am going to assume we are done, right? Claypool might end up at TE if somehow the kid from Texas flakes out before he signs and with a Jones already on campus we are in good shape. I do not see a huge impact.

IMHO it depends on Hunter's personality as much as his quarterback skills. Sure other talented players want to play with a 1st rate quarterback, but they also want to be surrounded by people they like to hang with. Jaylon is a prime example of this. A very talented player with a magnetic personality that others want to be around.

If Hunter chooses Notre Dame and wants other talented players to join him, he will need to have that magnetic personality and the desire to come to South Bend when other potential recruits are visiting.

Thanks guys. I didn't see much of an upside in 2016 since we are already near full at WR and OL, but elite QBs often leave before their fifth years so I was hopeful it would catch the eyes of some guys in this class. Wonder if a guy like Bredeson would give us a second look.

Either way, it could only be a good thing for the 2017 class.

It can't hurt 2016 Res. IF ND has a great year and has a #1 level 2017 commitment list going into All Star games and NSD, it might be the type of hype a kid or two could see the writing on the wall and join in on the trend. Having Zaire, Kizer, Wimbush and Johnson in the fold shows a lot of stability for the duration of their entire career at ND. That's a great selling point for the staff to use in closing the last minute decision makers.

Sean Fitz, the 247 Penn State insider just put in a CB for ND as well. Possibly Penn State was told something that led both to them accepting another verbal and by their insider putting in the CB to ND? Just speculation, but....

Hoping that this young man is our gunslinger for 2018-2020. I'm planning on still being alive in my late 70s, and it would be really nice to see an AA QB out there wearing NDs gold helmet. ... got really spoiled with Huarte, Hanratty, Montana, Theisman more or less in a row.

I'll only be in my late 60's but I plan to be there too, Old Man Mike. I started with Huarte and Eddy, and plan to see a few more National Championship runs before my number's up.

My neighbor and his wife are both 92 years young. He retired in 1983 and push mows his pretty big lot twice a week. His wife trims their hedges with a gas powered trimmer. They both drive. He drinks Coors light in his driveway and takes naps in the sun.

70 is the new 50.
