My neighbor and his wife are both 92 years young. He retired in 1983 and push mows his pretty big lot twice a week. His wife trims their hedges with a gas powered trimmer. They both drive. He drinks Coors light in his driveway and takes naps in the sun.

70 is the new 50.

Man, naps in the sun on my land with a cold beer sounds like paradise. Guess I just need to work my ass off for the next 67 years.

just a lil more info from wiltfong--getting to know BK at the invasion was HUGE for Hunter and fam. they love sanford....wiltfong thinks it could happen before season and would be surprised if it was anywhere else but ND

Do we know if this means we would 100% skip on a QB in 2016 if Johnson committed in the next month or two?

it seemed to be implied that we are in a wait and see mode w/ hunter...if he commits its a pass on 16 but continued contact w/ some qb's in 16 class though in the event

I'm usually a fan of ALWAYS taking a QB. But I would support this. If Hunter would commit soon, then it may be a good idea to simply keep contact with a few we really like and a few that are true "project" QB's that we could steal late in the cycle. If things pan out how we like, then we have a Ziare, Kizer, Wimbush & Johnson QB crew. Very tight... if Hunter bailed, we could pick up a project guy and still have 3 really good QB's in our depth chart.

Precisely, there are a few QB's committed to other schools that just like us don't necessarily want to make it public. However, they continue to communicate with ND and thats great for us. Plays perfectly into what we want to get done. Wait for Hunter and if it doesn't materialize, then make our move for one of them.

I'd take a 16 QB with some flexibility (and understanding) that they might be switched to another position down the road. Surely some 3 star kids would jump at this opportunity?

If we miss on Hunter would love for us to take a run at the kid committed to Texas

This is kind of how I feel as well. Take a kid like Devin Fuller and move him to WR/DB if need be.

Yea, Shane buechele, he kept Eason's butt on the pine all Opening long in 7 on 7. Now, he had his rough patches but the coaches must have seen enough to keep rolling with him.

Good to see communication going back and forth but he did seemed fairly committed to Texas. Worth a shot if though if he'll continue to keep an open mind.

If we were to go this route, I'd say Khalil Tate. He's looked really good at WR at some camps. I also think he could play CB or S.

This^^^

or if you want the best DT QB in the country flip him when he gets to campus... Mique Juarez.

I say forget '16 100%. By the time HJ could decommit the '16 cyle would be gone anyways and MVG is probably good enough to man your depth chart until the Irish get another star '17 recruit on campus... and they will after the year they have this year. I think Hunter is a done deal and there will be no reason for hick ups. He's Gunner Kiel without the bad decisions and a clear understanding that it's his team in '20 & '21, maybe '19 depending on BW's career.

Another update from Wiltfong: PSU hasn't been ruled out, but Tennessee and Florida are the bigger threats to an ND commitment at this point.

Random 247 poster makes a good point: Florida has a 2017 QB commit already (Jake Allen) and Tennessee has an Elite11 2016 QB commit (Jarrett Guarantano), as well as a few decent QB commits from the past couple years if I recall correctly. It's the SEC, though, so take it for what it's worth.

IMO, BK is the one that can close this based on comments from the past. Sanford has a great rapport with Hunter, BK needs to finish it off.

Is it just me or is there a less than 50% chance that BK is still our head coach by the time Hunter is starting for us? I hope he is here for the long haul, but if he's still coaching in 2020 that probably means one of two things: 1. He's had major success and turned down an NFL job; or 2. He's had above average success and never got the NFL job offer that he desired. I can't see BK turning down an offer to coach the Pats once Belichik leaves, but I hope I'm wrong.

A Billion Vbucks says he will not be Irish. I'd guess SEC, and UT.

I would love to pay up.

Don't underestimate the allure of the Giants job.

If we're going to play that game, the chance of any given coach being anywhere in 2020 is pretty slim. If Jones/Franklin/McElwain were all fired/gone by 2020 I wouldn't be shocked.

I'd say Kelly actually has a better chance of sticking around. Franklin and McElwain both run NFL offenses and I think Jones would leave Tennessee in a heartbeat if any of the big northern powers offered him a spot.

The Giants are not hiring Brian Kelly.
I'm curious as to why you think they wouldn't. I'm not intimately familiar with the organization but at first glance he seems like a good fit.
