Predicting that he is going to be the best ND receiver of all time is crazy considering the receivers that have played in South Bend. But Chase has great size and speed to potentially be considered the best ND receiver of all time when his college career is over. My prediction of him starting day 1 is bold enough for me because the last time a true freshman receiver started right away was Michael Floyd in 2008 lol.

If Chase ends up being the best we've ever had then I'll owe someone some v-bucks

I think Chase would be the W receiver, right? The letters next to receiver spots confuses me. I just know that I think he'll lineup on the opposite side of the field of Torii

I believe tj jones started as a true freshman in 2010

Chase Claypool won't start in 16. He will see the field though and I predict he will make plays.

I would not make an absolute statement about anything to do with that collection of wide receivers, at this point.

Although, I do think some (many) members of the freshman class are scary!

Some may fall into freshman traps, but I really think there are a number that came in ready to go.

I don't know if we have a Luther Bradley or a Ross Browner, for sure, but more and more, I am getting that sort of feeling.

Floyd didn't start right away if I remember correctly.

Correct. The starting WRs in the 2008 game against San Diego State were Duval Kamara and David Grimes. Floyd did play in the SD State game, however, catching a 22 yard TD in the 2nd Q for his only catch of the game.

Anyone else notice on his catch against MSU he was inline at the TE spot?

That's clever. If you align a guy with his hand in the dirt who has the appearance that he could be an actual tight end, he could still easily get mismatches in coverage. In other words, it may eliminate the obvious "oh, their trying to get a mismatch and now we know where the play is going" type substitution.

Notebook: Chase Claypool ahead of schedule for Notre Dame, pushing for larger role | Notre Dame Insider Football | ndinsider.com

I see no reason why we can't put him out as a TE more often. He's just a little lighter than guys like Weishar and Smythe, giving up about 20 pounds (If even that anymore, he just LOOKS big), but he has the height and seems to have play making ability. I wouldn't leave him in there as a blocker very often, but he's already one of the biggest WRs we have in height/weight.

He has been impressive. Maybe they should move him to LB and see what he can do there. Couldn't hurt the defense.

Claypool could be great.

Why does everyone want to change a kid's position as soon as his play (making ability) starts going through the roof?

I think for the most part, we wish we could clone him and have one of him at a multitude of positions.

Thanks for making my morning. I can just see BK and BVG pushing buttons and turning cranks.

Feverishly.

Get this kid half a dozen targets per game and we will not regret it.

Some guys on ISD think he can be Michael Floyd. Anybody else have comparisons?

If CC would have caught the last pass of the first half, I would have entertained the comparison. If Mike would have gotten his hands on it, that would have been 6.

I was sitting next to Mike and his family when that play happened oddly enough.

Dang that's nice. Floyd is one of my favorite players, so I want Claypool to be version 2.0. But Chase is bigger at the same age.

Gronk, Megatron... pick a 6'5" pro bowl receiver dominating the NFL...

Let's get to Maurice Stovall or even ESB first then worry about Megatron. lol

I heard that CC isn't as tall as advertised btw. Like an average 6-4 not the 6-5+ I was hearing about. Does anyone have a pic of him standing next to ESB?

Oh and I have no idea how big Megatron is but I've seen Gronk up close and he's a long 6-6.

I had flashes of Eifert when he turned his body as he elevated, catching the ball up high with both hands.

That would have been an all-time play had he caught it because it wouldn't have been the lucky, tipped-twice Hale Merry (Don't wanna pizz off DCIrishfan) That would have been a standard reception where Kizer out threw and CC out ran a Hale Merry prevent package.
