I saw it first from Chief that something was up with ND, but he never said Book was suspended. There were plenty of other people saying Book was suspended at the same time Chief put out his first tweet.

Yeah irresponsible for that Barstool guy, but I thought "ND media" handled it well. No ND sites reported it. Nobody was trying to drive ad revenue to 247, ISD, etc.

How this goes down is that something did happen, and then the rumor mill completely blew it out of proportion. So the rumor starts from a class where multiple people are implicated in something, then spreads from there one degree of separation, and then those people share it with people they know.

At that point --where it stops being basic on-campus gossip, but before people who don't know shit start posting cryptic stuff on Twitter -- people are just discussing in the background what they've heard to see if there is any more information. Is it a big deal? Is it not? Is it an honor code violation? Is it a Golson situation? Is it just a very minor "whoops" affecting the grade on an assignment?

The moment it hits public boards and Twitter at large it just spirals out of control with misinformation. This is case and point why we don't allow speculation and unverified rumors on the board here... obviously, in this situation that's impossible once some Barstool guy is tweeting ominous things. It's also why we tried to say people should be chill because there was no information on what punishment, if any, he might be facing. It's also why GK tried to source this thing out behind the scenes ~an hour before it "broke" because it's irresponsible to cause a hubbub over something that might be nothing.

So shame on "Barstool Chief" for getting the blood pressure of the collective ND Nation up through the roof for a couple hours, but all's well that ends well.

when will someone tell these students that there are ppl in their own backyard that are out to get them? they (student-athletes) got to run a tighter ship, there are ppl that are looking to take everything they have and throw it out the door, based on allegations alone. These student-athletes need to be made aware of it.

This translates to, if you are going to cheat, or do something stupid, expect for all of those ppl to find out because they are actively looking at everything they do, looking for the slightest microscopic impropriety that can be detected, whether its true or not.
