He would've been 3-3 with passes of 20+ yards if Austin didn't get interfered with.

Having your backup QB change positions is the dumbest thing I think I’ve read on IE.

Meyer did it with Braxton MIller without any ill effects.

It really all comes down to what Wimbush wants to do.

Does he want to complete his career with the Irish? Does he really want to start at qb for anyone? Does he want to play in the NFL?

I don't think this is even a possibility, is it?

Not at qb....but possibly at slot or Hybrid fb/rb....which would have him begging BK to use him in the backfiels/slot for the rest of the season.

To the board.......If you were BW, would you rather sit and wear a ball cap, or play and wear a helmet???

But I thought he was better at the intermediate throws....

I am willing to bet my fake internet money Wimbush takes snaps on Saturday.

To which Kelly (and anyone with brain would say), "you're our only backup QB".

Not mid season. He switched during the offseason and learned receiver full time, then competed in camp with the other receivers to win a spot.

It's weird, but I have the exact same feeling. It feels like there's a package of plays that could be rolled out that would give Wimbush a great platform to succeed in a game like this. A power zone scheme or something similar.

I feel like everyone already knew this would be the style and plan for when he played. Not surprised at all and I don't see it changing all that much no matter who is played. He is who he is and he's good at what he's good at.

On Ian: I don't see how anyone can be "sold" yet until he gets several more games. BUT, I THINK that he's ready --- REALLY ready. We need to exercise a little tolerance for him when he makes inevitable errors. Blackledge said that there was only ONE play the entire game where he felt Ian made the wrong decision. That's astounding (particularly coming from Blackledge --- no ND enthusiast.)

As to Brandon having some Stanford packages and being on the field: I think that this is extremely likely --- and for a weird (but admirable) reason. I believe that our Coach has a soft heart when it comes to "his guys", whether vets or coaches. --- not the optimum character trait for a merciless winner, but that is what he's shown me time after time. I believe that Coach will have Brandon geared up to run some interesting snaps.

They spent a ton of time prepping Brandon for the Michigan game so I'm sure there's plenty they already have in their back pocket that just needs a little dusting off. It's not like they need to start at first principles to cook something up for him.

Agreed, but I think the point of bringing that up is, better defenses (again Wake's D is not good, especially DB's) will force him to make plays over the top. In turn they'll force our WR's to make plays downfield. So, while Saturday was a lot of fun to watch. I wouldn't expect that gameplan is going beat the better defenses we'll play. But we shall see.

Side note, I'd really like to see more Kevin Austin this weekend. Let the freshman go ball. I'd like to see Kevin Austin matched up on their Nickel or S. He'll go ham on Murhpy. Physical enough to make plays over the middle and fast enough to burn him.

Are they really counting a pass interference call as incomplete, I thought those were counted as 0-0?

They're not counting it as incomplete. They don't count any flagged plays (i.e. plays that didn't happen) in those stats. The incompletion they're counting is the one he threw into double coverage in the end zone I believe.

I wanna see more Kevin Austin as well I think kid catches anything thrown his way. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being our go to WR by end of year if not number 1 next year. Seems like book likes Alize Jones a lot though. Get Austin and Michael young more involved. Please let Lenzy loose this week

BW has been great (no stats to back up) on his opening/scripted drives. I can see us having this for him in most games moving forward. I also was thinking he could come in during second half if we're up and run a solid RPO with a heavy focus on the R to kill clock and move the chains. He's a threat in these situations to throw the ball. Over an entire game, odds are with the defense but for 2 or 3 series, you have to play both and not force him to throw in my opinion. If you do I think he can beat you. Again, in 2 to 3 series a game that are scripted by situation.

THIS----- Plus Wimbush just may be the "starter" at some point depending on who we play. At least that is my interpretation of BKs presser. If the shoe fits for a particular game we just may see that.

I know many/most of you are anti 2 QBs, but it could just work out. Brandon does throw well enough that a Defense can't just automatically stack the box if he is in the game. Hell, BW could pitch to ADavis, who turns and fire a bomb to WR X..... I think it is more of an embarrassment of riches vs. the 2 QBs = 0 QBs argument.

That being said, I don't want them running out a new QB every series... That is just silly talk.
Except they did exactly that last year and Brandon couldn't do anything about it.

In his defense he said "some game", I'd like to see Book start but won't be surprised to see BW in certain situations on Saturday. If Book is rolling obviously no need

I think they will do the same. Some kind of wildcat, RPO package. Heck, we might even see them break out the old wishbone and let BW do some Turner Gill/Rickey Turner.

Pete posted an excellent article about Book this morning on the Athletic. Much more confident about him being consistent going forward then I was before the article. Seems like a humble, level headed kid who has some natural leadership capabilities. I particularly loved the story of him tossing the ball around with Steve Young and Young telling him, "I don't have anything to tell you about your throw, you throw it better than I did at your age."

Just want to make sure were adequately tempering our enthusiam after the performance vs Wake Forest.

Tom Flacco (Towson FCS) 35/51 345 yds 9.86 yds per completion 3 td 1 int
Ian Book 25/34 325 13 yds per completion 2 td 0int

Again, I am not trying to diminish Book's play or capabilities, nor be a BW supporter. Just wanting to point out that Wake Forest is really bad. and was the easiest game on our schedule for the entire year.

book did exactly what you should do against a bad defense. go back and look at what book did vs lsu in the bowl game last season, he was 14 of 19 73% for 164 yards 8.6 yards per attempt with 2 TDs and 1 int. im not worried about book, he can flat out play.

Not as easy as Testicle Tech, where ND's BW-led offense struggled throughout much of the day.

His rushing stats shouldn't be left out of any comparison
