Descartes, as I understand it, was a catalyst for the moral relativism that's slowly overtaken our world. His contention 'cogito ergo sum' has been misappropriated in myriad of ways. It spawned a world where skepticism of everything is preferred except skepticism of self.

After deconstructing his world and starting with the atomized self, Descartes rebuilt a "logical path" to God. His path was riddled with holes and has since been rarely referenced but his defined origin has given flight to many fanciful philosophers.

That is a highly abbreviated version so if you care to take me to task over it, I'll gladly engage but perhaps we should do it somewhere other than Nyles Morgan's thread?

Bryan Driskell has been fairly open with his opinion that it's very clear the problem was BVG. Yesterday was essentially the final data point that showed it was him and not the talent. Guys are playing their best football right now.

I'd be interested to know what ND could have done last year with a good DC.

A good stat, we held Miami to 4 yards/play. Their lowest mark of the season.

I mean with a competent DC this team would be what 7-1 right now...lone loss would have been in the lake at NCState, because the game should have never been played and BL refused to run the ball. BVG was like a virus which put to much pressure on the offense and caused the whole team to lose confidence.

I'm not sure why Morgan would request an NFL draft grade. I bet he is no better than 3rd or 4th round, and probably more like 5th round. Guy didn't even make the SEMIfinalists for the Butkus Award. And it's not all that strong of a year for Linebackers.

Who are some ILBs that would go before him? Reuben Foster, Kendall Beckwith, Raekwon McMillan, Jaylen Reeves-Maybin? I don't see him coming out unless he gets a 2nd round grade. He needs to Captain this defense next year.

He could conceivably play his way into a round 1-3 pick if he comes back. I see him as a round 3-5 guy right now.

I wouldn't go that far. Clearly whoever replaces him would be a down grade. But if he left you would still have two very experienced players who could play MLB in Coney or Martini.

I can't imagine him going into the draft. I doubt he'd go any higher than round 4. I think he's relatively unknown. Didn't play at all last year then started this year on a poor defense. He should be a captain next year probably with Tranquil on D. I think if Kizer comes back it'll be Kizer and McG on O.

Martini will provide the much needed experience...but I'm pretty sure he'll still be slow.

Does he graduate this year? Crazy to leave. If he wasn't a MLB wearing #5 at ND he wouldn't have sniffed the Butkus watch list. He has been steady but unspectacular. Still a lot of room for improvement next year. He has the potential to be a first rounder but needs to play like an unleashed animal at SEC speed.

He's a tackling machine but isn't a playmaker. Steady, but that's about it.

And after seeing the way he gets eaten up in blocks at times, I can't see him going the first 4 rounds....He's just not that versatile or athletic. It takes more than just a buncha tackles to play on Sundays.

I think you'll find come combine time that he IS that athletic, especially for a 6-1, 245 pounder. If not, Fire Longo.

I thought he was going to be more of a 'blow the play up' kinda guy after watching his guided missile playing style displayed his freshman year but ND has taken that out of his game to be exactly what you are calling him, a tackling machine. They made him into a bigger, faster, better Joe Schmidt.

Fair enough. He just never really showed it on the field, is all.

There are guys that tear up the combine, and just flat out can't play when put on the field.


So is it effort with him? Or is he just not "getting it"? Which do you think?

This time of year, plenty of upperclassmen get NFL grades. It means nothing. They get positive feedback and use it to shore up some holes in their game in order to be a higher draft pick the next year. Happens all the time. Only kids who get 1st round grades, and very high ones at that, are sure fire risks to leave. The others, and there are exceptions, typically have something else going on driving their decision to just get out of college and into the pros at any cost. I'm guessing Nyles will be back next year to anchor what should be a pretty damn good defense if they can muster any form of a pass rush.
