Well, he's enrolled. Nobody can be sure if he's actually taking classes since he is at UNC

So we'd need NCAA sanctions against UNC that include free transfers for current players.

I did see a tweet yesterday where investigative reporters had arrived in Chapel Hill. Can't remember who tweeted it but I believe the reporters were from HBO Sports.

HBO Sports: Boldly going where no NCAA official could be bothered to go before.

Every year there is some mystery recruit at the end of the year that we're supposed to land and every year we don't land said recruit.

We don't get fooled again.

Not going to ND according to a source close to brown.-ISD

Really not surprising. What I posted earlier and then edited out is that when he committed to Cal his camp was pretty emphatic they were shutting it all down. They seemed genuinely thankful that Cal was willing to take him, versus other places that had him in a wait-and-see category.

Wow Wooly, great memory. I totally forgot about him. Now committed to WVU, apparently.

Supposedly, about two months ago he mentioned that he may want to take visits, but then decided not to after talking to his coaches.

I really don't know anything, just speculating. That being said, when he "just wanted to take visits" at FSU... he ended up decommitting.

Wasn't it reported that he was still in contact with ND even thought they said they were shutting it down?

One important thing to remember is that earlier in the cycle the staff thought there was a good chance Nix and Tuitt would be back, and definitely wasn't expecting GAIII/Niklas to leave. And that's not even considering decommitments. So they were expecting to be recruiting 1 maybe 2 guys right now. Instead, they're staring down the gun barrels of some depth concerns and coming into the year with only ~80 guys. So they're taking inventory on who they expect/think they can land from here on out and what they need for next year and what they feel good about chasing in 2015. Just a very fluid situation that changes by the day.

I can't imagine a world where the staff honestly believed Nix would be back. Tuitt, yes, but Nix? Virtually no chance.

There was a chance, not a good one, but a small chance. You're right the odds were strongly against it. I phrased that incorrectly. There was a "good" chance on Tuitt and "small-but-possible" chance on Nix.

Elliott visited him at school in Dec.

Reps, I thought I remember reading that. Brown's camp seems to keep things pretty close to the vest. It wouldn't surprise me if they are saying he's committed but he's still talking to ND just like before. It stops them from being harassed by the Cal writers and the like.
