Tons is going to change in CFB landscape by the time the playoff system beings. I'm really not worried as long as Mr Swabrick is in charge.

Thursday practice report for Bama (yes, it is this slow around here). Barrett Jones is still not practicing. Kenny Bell still not practicing (just non-contact). Also note:

*** Thursday's practice report

IMO Sunseri has had some mental lapses at times this year. It seems he has been one of the main problems on Alabama having some trouble getting off the field on 3rd down.

I'm still not worried about Jones. He is smart and tough. They are saying jones will start full practice next week. He ran on a treadmill today. His backup, Kelly, is incredible as well.

I would love to see Bell come back.

How is ND with injuries? Are they as banged up as we are?

Also, be careful what you read of you are a ND fan. There are some football crazies down here that will report stuff that is not true just to get a rumor started- to help Alabama, or to hurt Alabama. Seriously.

al.com is a good source.

English would have been better.

I still love Chris Speilman. He is a class act!

yes and no, lost key contributers for the season early on, but other than that on WR Daniels is working his way back (he should be fine)

Most of you have probably read this Matt Fortuna piece dated December 3rd, but I had not so I thought I'd post for the sake of anyone else who hadn't seen it. The biggest fear many fans have at a time like this is complacency due to a sense of what you've already accomplished and/or getting out of rhythm due to the long layoff. For me, this piece helped shed light on both of these aspects.

Yes, and in particular, gcashwell, we lost half our starting secondary at/before the start of the season. This was most ND fans' foremost concern as the season was in its infancy, but our boys have really stepped up big-time (see K. Russell and M. Farley in particular). That said, one of the primary games within the game on the 7th will be whether ND can provide safety help in the passing game, as they have done all season, while still containing the Bama running game. Or whether the CBs can hold their own in the passing game while the safeties assist in containing the Bama running game. It will undoubtedly be a combination of the two, and it will be a test of a magnitude that IMO ND hasn't faced all season. But, no reason to doubt that our guys can get it done - just a matter of doing it.

Yea Bob Diaco loves to make presnap changes at the very last minute. These presnap changes usually involve moving the safety up or back from the LOS. For example ND will create the illussion of a deep secondary hoping the offense audibles to a run and then run that safety down into the box at the last instant.

AJ McCarron was telling reporters about how Notre Dame makes a presnap adjustments at the last minute. He said he was trying to make sure recoginizes these last second adjustments by studying the film very carefully.

Ways to beat the presnap adjustments is to quick count and catch the defense out of position. You can also long count and hope the defense shows their true look thus allowing you as a QB to adjust and possible audible if necessary.

The first time Alabama gets insie the five (if they ever do) I wouldn't be surprised to see Diaco show the corner blitz from both sides like he does so often, then back them off at the snap in hopes of getting McCarren to throw into coverage.

I'm guessing that if Alabama loses the game you are looking at McCarron's ex-girlfriend.

First of all it is not if it is when they lose. (Unless of course they win. I got Notre Dame as national champs and refuse to accept anything different unless they lose.)

Notre Dame returns practice today after 6 day Christmas holliday break.

I assume Alabama game preparation now becomes the sole focus as opposed to pre-Christmas practices.

I believe that's correct. Saban usually runs the first several days of bowl practice like preseason camp and focuses on basics, then the last week or two preparing for the specific opponent just like game week practices.

And if Notre Dame wins then Everett Golson will have every girl on campus thrown at him for the next 6 months

Manziel and McCarron are both dating models. Golson needs to step up his game.

Skylar Diggins, you're our only hope. I'm sure Dan Smith would understand.

Alabama is 3rd-largest favorite in BCS title gm (9.5 via covers.com). The 2 bigger faves ('03 Miami, '01 FSU) both lost #NDvsBAMA

This is something I was thinking about last night. Hindsight is always 20/20 and after some games we always wonder how we could have ever thought it would go any other way. We see one team totally dominate the other and realize all the signs were there that it was going to go down that way, and realize we'd been looking at all the wrong things and should have known.

I really don't know how this game's going to go. I "think" both teams are very good and are at about the same level, but there are so many things with both of them that make me wonder if we're about to see two very similar teams slug it out in a game that could go either way or if 10 days from now we'll all wonder how we could have ever believed Bama's exceedingly young D was really all that, how we didn't see this coming after the A&M game, how we could've ever believed Bama's O could move the ball on ND's D (or vice versa), not realized Vegas and the experts knew all along that ND wasn't quite there yet, etc.

I think we're going to see a nail biter that could go either way, but it's also possible we could see a beatdown that leaves all of us wondering how we didn't see it coming with so much evidence staring us in the face all along. The problem is not knowing which evidence is relevant at this point.

I completely agree. You get my vote for post of the day so far.

Are you familiar with the Fremeau Efficiency Index? It's an opponent-adjusted possession-based model that measures efficiency on offense, defense and ST. Its projections have been pretty accurate this season (75% straight up), and it's predicting a toss-up:

53.8% PWE :: Notre Dame 24, Alabama 23

And keep in mind that Vegas lines are set to generate an equal amount of action on either side; so they're more reflective of public perception than some all-knowing football guru's expectations. The current line doesn't surprise me, given 'Bama's proven track record in the title game, and ND's last two decades of mediocrity.

But remember that OU was -13 over ND, and they got stomped.
