Then I hope you don't have title aspirations. Because that's the type of talent it takes to win titles.

This. I'm not sure what has to give, but something has to... ND will never be a year in year out contender without getting consistently stronger in the defensive front seven.

hypothetically speaking, if we land quick and juju, how far do you think we go up in the class rankings?

we have one the of the highest rated OLs in the country with only 1 5 star

Brent is going to be a huge possession wr, perfect balance when complemented with the speed we already have

Kolin Hill, Watkins, Morgan -- all 5 star pitential

When I think of "developing into 5 star", I think of day one NFL draft guys. That's just me.

Then you cant judge who is a 5 star now -- Mack from UB was not a 5 star, just a 2 star
Manziel wasnt a 5 star
Bortles, Bridgewater, GRobinson -- not 5 stars

Did you forget about the '11 class? (Lynch, Tuitt & Ishaq)

Davonte Neal and Davaris Daniels were both ranked slightly higher than Brent as well… but that's splitting hairs.

I did say than last years so I wasn't referencing the 2011 class but I expect this group to be more productive as a whole than the 2011 group. So far only one of those guys has turned in a productive career as a pass rusher. I think the combination of this group can be better than that one. Also, on the WR comment. That was a direct quote from Sampson this morning when talking to Jack Nolan. According to rivals Brent was #84, Neal #107, and Davaris #178. 247 composite Brent #67, Neal #83, and Daniels #64. So if I was to look at I'd say its a toss up between Brent and Daniels. However, from Sampson's perspective I can see why he would say that. Nonetheless, one of if not the best WR prospects Kelly has brought in.

Also… are we shopping in a different aisle? Weren't we just arguing how the Bama's of the world wanted our defensive lineman? Which is it?

ND can only shop in one aisle.
the bama/lsu's of the world can shop in every single asile in the stoore--INCLUDING OURS.

ps
in terms of titles... i want us to win it "the ND way" and never any other way. its cliche but win it with "tough gentleman"
it would be a hollow victory to me to win a title having a bunch of guys with 3rd grade reading levels dumping the gatorade on kelly.
that is the ultimate ND challenge to PROVE to everyone that you CAN win it all and graduate all your players. ND and Stanford are knocking on the door right now in my view.

never compromise.

Justin Brent is so much better than everyone realizes. Incredible all-around athlete. Had he been 6'3" he's 5:s: top-20 level player to me. But he's 6'1".

If he doesn't play RB for a crappy small HS or goes to All-Star games... probably ends up as a top-40ish player. All things considered, I'll be shocked if he doesn't dominate at ND.

Two things:

1) I would say that Lynch definitely proved himself as a pass rusher. Kid is a very good pass rusher. His results were limited at ND, so if we are talking "productive for ND", but he is definitely a proven pass rusher.

2) People "expect" recruits to be awesome every year. If you would have asked anyone on here what they thought Ishaq would turn into, pretty much everyone would have said "day 1 NFL talent" on NSD of '11. So it's all hindsight, imo.

I truly believe that there were two reasons he didn't make an even higher jump than he did. Where he plays position/HS and where he started off being ranked. Totally agree with the bolded. Something that can't be taught is drive and work ethic.

hes 1st team all state in texas -- i dont think 5 star potential is really drinking the kool aid

Hill will be a Darius Flemming type player IMO. But where do you see the 5 star potential? I know he was first team all state and he had a nice highlight tape but don't all recruits have nice "highlight tapes"

FWIW, BK's crystal ball says we're done. He's said it's a 23 man class.

That's out of context. He's not going to say its a 24/25 man class before the other guys announce. I wouldn't read too much into that comment.

If we were adding anymore, he would not say a number at all. It's not like he was asked how many players will be in the class, he said it on his own.

Maybe that is because there are 23 people in it right now?

I'm not making a prediction, but I think you're reading too much into that comment.
