I really, really hate Fresno. Those kids are all Looney Toons. I wish ND would just stop wasting its time there.

Yeah. Like JMuns said, LJ seemed to have his head screwed on straighter than most. And Quick seemed fine, though there were rumors of academic concerns, right? But for all the effort we've put in out there I just don't see us landing anyone who'll stick. Time to move on.

We have to be honest with ourselves at this point. There are few school systems in the country that prepare students less for the rigors of college work than the Fresno school system as a whole. Great players from that area - many who would be good fits personality wise - but they just have much more to overcome than most in order to make it at ND. I wish we could snag some, but it is time to broaden the horizons or plant a Catholic K-12 school that we can start to pull from.

From TJ regarding LJ

Not surprised one bit here. Had a good hunch this would happen!

Not sure any of the Fresno kids really fit there. Quick included.

Yeah. I've never been there but all I've heard suggests Fresno's a pretty rough town. Poor. Hard. Lousy schools. And these kids, unlike some of the, say, Miami-area recruits we go after, aren't transferred into private/Catholic schools with quality academics. They're straight-up public school. Inner-city public school kids is not a profile we've tended to recruit all that well, especially beyond the Midwest. There have been exceptions (Louis Nix, for one), and you want to give kids a chance, not write them off based on zip code. But we've had a pretty low hit rate, despite a lot of effort.
I assume we have relationships with the coaches at a few of these programs in Fresno at this point. But it might be time to move on.

Just say NO to Fresno.
At least, in Tony Perry, the central valley kids have a coach and advocate who has never thought it might be time to move on, and just say no to the hours he puts in to get his kids college scholarships. Besides Michiah Quick, how many Division 1 scholarships has Perry gotten for Fresno athletes? Robert Golden, Ricky Manning, T J McDonald, Bernard Hicks, Cliff Harris, have gone through his high school programs, and the list goes on and on. And the rewards for his efforts certainly aren't monetary. Perhaps Coach Perry should frame and hang A Just Say No to Notre Dame poster on his office wall. That would make UCLA, Arizona, USC, Oklahoma, and Oregon very happy.

Not sure I ever get your posts of random information but in this situation this makes entirely no sense at all. Why would he not want kids to go to one of the best institutions in the country?

I'll even add that from ND's standpoint there is reason to believe that investing a lot of future resources in a specific region may not be a good idea by looking at costs and benefits. It literally makes zero sense for a coach to not want one of his kids to go to school at ND unless that reason is unethical or immoral.

Nobody is saying that everybody everywhere should give up on these kids. I went so far as to say that many of them could have been very good fits for the Irish. But the return has not been there for ND. We would love to have some of these kids on the roster, but they didn't choose us. What we are saying is that it is time for NOTRE DAME to move on - not give up on these kids ever amounting to anything in football or life. I hope to God that caring coaches never move on from the kids because they are bettering their life outcome. I personally just don't see much future for Notre Dame in the Fresno area.

SMDH. Those kids should have came to Notre Dame...would have matured them. Also, Notre Dame could have used them this past year. I bet you Quick would be the number one WR if he came to ND, he would be a junior.

He would be our best corner. Bryd? Never stood a chance. LJ Moore really liked ND. Let's see how long Caleb Kelly stays there. Dude had like 10 tackles this year and OU basically made a promise he would start and see major time. Man it pisses me off that kid basically was a loud silent for two weeks. We had so many great recruiting storylines last year, we have none this year

OU's defense is bad as well. But when you have connections to the city you can paint the picture anyway you want too.

I liked him and still like him at WR.

Yeah Byrd is not a big time power 5 player. Thus, the reason Notre Dame dropped him.

Well that story is changing with all these players not working out at OU now.

Maybe this will help Oklahoma realize that Fresno, California is the worst place in the world.
