Police chief says no wrongdoing in arrest of Notre Dame's Devin Butler | WSBT

Here's the unreal part of this... "well, we did an internal investigation, but just trust us nothing at all bad happened... and because you can totally trust us that nothing at all bad happened, we're not going to give our findings over to Board of Public Safety or release any information publicly."

This is an issue for Mike Pence to solve. He said the other day because of his initiatives there was no more police corruption, or no more issues of inappropriate law enforcement behaviors in Indiana.

Really.

I love ND. And I love South Bend. Other towns and many areas within Indiana. The lake shore. Bunches of other lakes and recreation areas, etc.

And I have a lot of friends, family and acquaintances that are Hoosiers.

Yes, it is true, I hate the toll road in Indiana, that is no secret.

But I have to tell you, Indiana has some weird mojo. When you look at the KKK activity in the state, the corruption in politics and law enforcement historically, etc. You are talking up some really fucked up stuff!

Just the tip, but a Dragon/cannibal elected to the highest state office!

You know what's really fvcked up is when people use links that contain only black and white pictures from 100+ years ago to cast shade on their neighbor.

You want to talk about states that have REAL problems, talk about the third world sh!t hole 60 miles to your north controlled by the diseased urban progressives ... talk about the REAL CORRUPTION that goes on in Illinois because of Chicago where they fill the prisons with former governors. And when you wanna talk REAL racism, go across the Mason Dixon... a line that touches your state as much as ours.

This thread is no place for your anti-Republican politics. Control yourself.

Typical SBPD

The best is there is a clown on the ISD forums who is an SBPD cop and he defends everything they do and calls Butler a "woman beater." Tells you everything you need to know about their corruption. Guy won't say a single bad things about Knepper, but has already convicted Butler... including of stuff he isn't charged with.

I'm honestly about to cancel my subscription over there because the mods stick up for this fool and are all "hey, be nice to cops guys..."

It's just such a fucking joke. People want to know why people have no trust in police anymore it's that they stick up for their "brothers" like Knepper.

Some vindication, glad other charges were rightfully dropped. End result is a $400 fine + diversion program. Far cry from "felony battery of police officer" BS.

EDIT: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Agreement allows Butler to withdraw guilty plea after 1 year if all stipulations are met.</p>— Kofo Lasaki (@KofoLasakiWNDU) <a href="https://twitter.com/KofoLasakiWNDU/status/788027109230845956">October 17, 2016</a></blockquote>

So he'll end up with a clean record from all of this.

Great news that he won't have a permanent mark for this. Too bad the plea will be treated as an admission of guilt and free pass for the officer when the evidence looked pretty damning for the SBPD.

How that conversation went: "look, you plead guilty to the lowest charge we can offer, pay the lowest fine we can give, and then write an 'apology' letter so we know you won't sue us... and in a year, we'll wipe all this out and it'll be as if it never happened. Otherwise, you're going to spend much more than $400 in court trying to fight this and we'll threaten you with jail time. We don't get sued, you don't get punished, everyone goes home."

In his shoes, I'd take that deal every time.

He's also got to write a "sorry" note to that f*ckhead cop.

How do you say "sorry" to some douchebag like Knepper?

Good for Devin. It is about the best you can hope for, right or wrong, in these situations authority always wins.

It's funny, because you know for 100% fact that the reason that is in there is to mitigate the risk of him filing a lawsuit.

That's not a great outcome overall, but it's one you take if you're in Devin's place in most cases. He's had his name drug through the mud over the BS assault charge against an officer with a checkered past. Feel like this kid has been put through enough between this and the crap that happened to his family at the Florida State game.

And twice on Tuesdays. With a highly rated law school and impressive social mission you would think ND would find a way to overlook conflict of interest issues and get some serious free legal representation to fix this. With police conflict in this country, missing a chance to fix a problem by ND is too bad.

Politically - playing nice with SBPD is the easy out and free legal probably full of NCAA landmines.. And Devin would need to be a willing defendant turned plaintiff. Can't fault him for running from a bigger battle that would take tons of time and energy even if legal rep was free.

Wouldn't be half surprised if ND still somehow kicked him out of school. Not going to happen but it was be such an 'ND thing' to do.

Dear Officer Knepper, I am sorry you are such a fucking douchebag.

"Dear Officer Knepper: I am sorry you still have your job. Please enjoy this autographed copy of Super Troopers to remember me by as I think of you every time I take the football field in the future."

This could be a fun game.

Unless the University is going to offer free legal representation to every student, say hello to "Impermissible benefit" sanctions from the NCAA...

So I worked in the City of Houston jail for four years. We'd have to write letters in different situations that involved someone complaining about our "handling" of them. This letter reeks of a template and you just input specific names and dates. I wouldn't be surprised if the lawyer wrote the letter and Butler just signed it.

I would be surprised if his lawyer did not write that. I wouldn't let a client submit something like that before reviewing it and heavily editing it at the very least.

The more I read the letter, the uglier I feel for Devin. He's making the smart decision, but it's probably not the just one. I would make the same decision in his shoes, but it sucks that Knepper is going to walk away from this with a slap on the wrist again after multiple issues on his record. He should be writing a letter of apology to Devin, not the other way around.

Typical American law enforcement. Dbag cops who think they can do whatever they want. Then all other cops protect their back with unspoken brotherhood, no matter if the police officer did something wrong.

Hopefully nd realizes his admission of guilt was so that he can get this behind him instead of drawing it out in courts. Really sucks though, that the cop isnt having a lawsuit brought against him.
