he was doing very well, and i believe the team even mentioned something about not needing another center for a decade or along those lines.

However, he recently suffered a high ankle sprain/injury and it sounds like they might be contemplating season ending surgery:

Does anyone think this really helps draft stock for all ND Linemen? Two straight LTs head straight in the league and immediately start, while snapping necks and cashing checks. I know Tom Cable has bemoaned the spread offense for giving college OL shitty technique overall, but Heistand knows what the fuck he's doing and has quickly turned us in to OL U

Uhhh, no. Pro Bowl voting already happened. If you mean as an injury or Super Bowl replacement it's still highly unlikely. He had 6 great games and 6 pretty abysmal games by that figure, also missed 4 games due to injury. Closed out great but still overshadowed by fellow rookie Jack Conklin who is a pro bowl alternative as of now.

If he plays in '17 like he did to end the year he should be poised to make a run at a slot next year.

I think what you saw was a rookie adjusting to the pro game as the season went along. I suspect, he'll be better and more consistent next season.
