you could argue that getting 1st round picks is more valuable in recruiting than having guys who have long careers in the league. Kids have short memories.

Honestly depends on the position. Offensive Linemen are generally the smartest kids on the team. Zack Martin could get a contract upwards of 14 mil per year. If Stanley keeps on the same trajectory, imagine what his contract will be as a LT. Chance Warmack is making about 1.5 mil on a one year contract. Money talks. Knowing not only that they'll be drafted high (McGlinchey will probably be a 1st rounder too, as will Nelson IMO), but that they'll be getting top notch coaching that translates to the NFL is a better pitch

Since ND and Bama played in '13, Bama has 3 1st rounders, ND has 2, but:

Z Mart + R Stanley > Fluker + Warmack + Kelly. Based on performance and what contract #2 will bring each player.

Add to that for the '18 draft: McG + Q who many have as #1 at OT & OG. ND would beat them in #'s then also as Bama has no potential 1st rounders eligible for the 2018 draft per every mock i just looked at.

No wonder why these bama guys aren't performing. $1.5 million per year is probably a pay cut from what Warmack was getting at bama.

do people really believe McGlinchey will be an elite Tackle in the Pro's? I hope that whoever takes him at least lets him start out at RT. He's much more effective there.

I think the question is whether his elite size, technique, work ethic and smarts can overcome his lack of elite athleticism. He's got a shot, and probably worth the risk.

eeeeerrrrrr....I always thoufgh of his as an elite athlete for a tackle. Many people say he could play TE. I think his issue were strength and mental lapses, those are what needs to be fixed.

He gets movement at the point of attack and finishes blocks so I never really questioned his strength. I'm sure he could use some more strength but I don't think it's been lacking so far. The false start penalties can be lack of smarts, discipline, being overly aggressive or a combination of the three. I doubt it's a lack of smarts with McGlinchey and I think he'll correct those penalty issues with increased focus. Whistle through whistle he plays with a high awareness, he communicates well, and is clearly a team leader so I assume he's a high IQ player. I could be wrong, though.

He doesn't have elite feet or quickness, and I think that will be his greatest issue at LT in the NFL. That could even explain some of the penalties - a LT gets impatient in his stance when he's struggling to beat a rush end to the point of attack. His length and technique may be enough to overcome the feet but I think he could struggle with outside pass rushers at the next level, especially if they have a quick inside rip or spin move.

The "Dance":
ONE-TWO-set-PUNCH
ONE-TWO-set-PUNCH
(QUICK-QUICK-balanced-BOOM)

That stuff gets harder usually the longer those legs are. The "QUICK" is hard enough; the "landing" perfectly balanced is given only to preternaturals like ZMart.

I still think that Big Mike will be able to handle it.

I have not been following the NFL that much this year. And have absolutely zero knowledge on the Ravens.

How is Stanley doing this year? Have not heard anything which a little concerning. As last year he played really well

From early November, he was the #1 rated tackle in run blocking and #9 overall. I think he missed a game or two later in the season, but he has been solid this year as well.

Afforded a second look at film of the Ravens in three weeks, Chargers defenders saw that Baltimore’s offense, though complex, seemed to change little week to week. They solved parts of it and picked up clues, like left tackle Ronnie Stanley’s feet. When Stanley set them about even, it was a run, and when he set his left foot further back, it was a pass “almost 100 percent” of the time.

He had a rough day yesterday. He needs to cleanup that tell if true. I'm confident Stanley will be stronger than ever next year though.

A little off topic from Ronnie........Was anyone really surprised the Chargers won? Jackson was doing great, but like most QB's that look stellar their rookie season, once teams get film on them, they figure them out. This was the Chargers second time playing them. I don't see Jackson doing as well next season. Especially since the chargers just showed everyone how to do it.

Could you imagine an O Line w Stanley and McGlinchey at tackle and Q and Z inside? I could play center and we'd be unstoppable.

Bigger Bears fan than ND fan?

No, but we complain about Jeff Quinn and ND's OL struggling to run block.

Under Hiestand, the Bears have probably the worst run blocking OL in the NFL.

The complaints about Trubisky early on, but the OL was easily the worst group on offense having regressed the most. And unlike with Quinn, Hiestand had a stable group of personnel. He had Leno, Massie, Whitehair and then was given Daniels in 2018. Practically all of those guys have regressed this year.

Also, there was little justifying Hiestand's pitiful 2018 recruiting class. Quinn needed to come in and land the only 4-star we got that year in Patterson.

Whatever OL magic Hiestand had in developing and recruiting, he seems to have lost it.

I've been an IE reader for a long time and infrequent poster but I have often thought that too much credit/blame is given to assistant coaches. Since I have been following recruiting ND has always been able to attract 4+ star o linemen.
