Year 1 veteran players reportedly had buy in problems.
Year 2 veteran starters hitting the portal.
I have concerns

Year 2 - veteran players transferring because their are better, younger, more upside players in the system.

Tyree doesn't fit the mold for this, but they have too many slot receivers. They must have a better balancing offensively, and that means restructuring the room for a more balanced, efficient product. 85 scholarships is the limit and can't have four or five guys slotted for the same role in an offense.

I'm very ok with him leaving. He's not good enough to play RB and if he's all we can get at WR we deserve to lose.

I did enjoy the plays he made, but he was not what I anticipated when he came to ND

Losing guys like Tyree does not make this roster better. If I was Freeman I would be doing everything I can to make sure I have guys like Tyree on next years roster.
Would be nice to have some speedy guys on the roster at WR, its a necessity in CFB.

Nah, we can sign 55 5 stars, 55 transfers, keep 55 veterans, hire 55 coaches, buy 55 analysts...

It would, but the issue is that while Tyree has speed, he isn't particularly agile and isn't great at making plays in space, which you want in a slot receiver. He also is very short and isn't a particularly crisp route runner or has the best hands, which you want in a perimeter receiver.

I think if you didn't already have several quality slot receivers, then I'd want to hold onto Tyree, but I think ND is going to be just fine.

Maybe. Correll, yes. I'm not sure who's supposed to be replacing Nana (and JJB both), but no one else at that position has seen the field much. Tyree is arguable but also he's potential captain material. You don't discard those guys.

IDK. Aside from Pyne who doesn't really count, did we lose anyone from the two-deep to outbound transfer before the bowl game last year? (Diggs and Styles left after spring ball, most of the others were deeper depth who'd been passed over). This year we've already lost three and the portal only opened yesterday. Then there's a bunch of draft decisions still to come.

To be clear I don't think it's b/c of some bigger "problem" in the program, more just the nature of college football right now. But I hope there really are a lot of younger, more upside players in the system, because we'll need them.

The portal closes 15 days earlier this year. You’re going to see this with every team much earlier

Completely agree. It's nice to have guys like Tyree, Nana and Correll on the team, but they're just not that good. I guarantee they end up at lesser programs

I wish Tyree would have stayed for his final season and be a ND Captain. However, if you go back through this thread, very off season this board talked about what a disappointment it has been that ND could never figure out how to use him properly - ND needs to be more creative in getting him the ball, Tyree needs to change positions, why doesn't Tyree break more tackles, etc. This one kinda sucks, but I also get it. He was more consistent this season than I expected, but his playing time was not going to increase next season.

Im speaking on recruits (a la Zion Branch) or transfers (a la JoJo Earle) but your definitely better with guys like Tyree than without.

If he wants to be closer to home, why not UNC? It's about 2.5 hours from where he lives and he'd be in an offense that would throw the ball around.

Didn't UVA look pretty frisky down the stretch? I seem to recall them not looking God-awful like they did last year and the beginning of the year. Would allow Tyree to get a good grad degree close to home

Visited Virginia over the weekend. What a down shift.
Oof. I thought his plan was to improve his draft profile.

Is 100% of reps at a team like UVA really better than 70-80% of reps at ND with potentially Riley Leonard and not many other options at WR?

Notre Dame man/pulling for him - it would suck on both sides (Notre Dame, Tyree) to see him transfer to a situation like this

He actually knows his abilities. If he was good enough to start and be a main key for UNC he'd be the same for ND. He knows he would only be a part, possibly smaller part of our offense next year. To go somewhere and be a bigger part he needs to go to a lesser program, or one with even less WR talent than we have and projected to come in. UVA makes sense.

He simple watched how they utilized Washington in the offense.

Virginia likely has two WRs that will be playing in the league on the roster right now, including Malik Washington who fits Tyree’s profile. It seems like a great fit for him to be a speedy featured guy.

I always said he'd go back home. I figured Va Tech...... Hope he does better than UVA, but Charlottesville is hands down amazing!
I detest the city itself and the institution... but damn the breweries and wineries in the Charlottesville area are incredible, and Bodo's Bagels are prime. It's not a campus, Mr. Jefferson referred to it as the Grounds.... Oh I'm not a Junior, I'm a third year, Mr. Jefferson believed that education was a lifelong process... Needless to say during my FRESHMAN year at ND I was fortunate enough to get to watch the ND-UVA game with the Kizer-Fuller Touchdown in the student section. Those UVA dorks were chirping me all game about how UVA's Law school was higher ranked than ND's and how the Mendoza School of Business is inferior to UVA's and the MBA at UVA is better than what you'd get at Mendoza lol.

ND has to ask him back right? Let’s stop this shenanigans. The rest of them…see ya. But Tyree, come on.

I love Chris, but I think that him leaving has to do with the fact that he'd have to compete with Faison and Greathouse for slot reps and he'd rather go somewhere that guarantees him the starting spot.

Totally fine with that rationale. I think this is one of those cases where it's good for every party - more reps for two young guys that showed out at times last year, and bigger opportunities for a guy who's been a class act and leaves South Bend with a degree.

Agreed.

This is a Diggs situation all over again. Wants to be featured, has a crowded room that will divide touches, decides to go somewhere else. The rest of the room can now earn more reps and each has a unique capability that will be better developed by getting more targets/touches.

I wish Tyree all the best. Hope he has a monster season for Virginia. He was a great teammate from all reports.

Yeah, can't fault him for wanting to go somewhere to be the featured guy. He's not going to get that here as we spread it around. He's earned the right to try his hand, and he should have his degree in hand.
