Really? How backward did he bend? The reason we resigned with them wasn't the massive contract offered but because his son needed a job? He was so desperate to keep his son's job at UA that he forced the deal with UA?

This overly simplistic take is bandied about as actual truth. I wanted Nike as bad as anyone on this forum btw.
Don't have the details in front of me but remember digging into them at the time, and the new UA contract is a wet noodle compared to other top schools' apparel deals. It didn't even increase from the last time it was signed, and OSU's deal in particular blew it out of the water.

ND couldn't garner a better offer.

Couple that with the additional ~$30M/annually each Big 10 team is getting over the ND/NBC deal and it adds up quickly.

If the goal is to win every game. I’d want veteran leadership on an offense that sorely needs it.

If the goal is to build a talented depth chart. I’d want the guy with burgeoning WR skills and runs a 4.3/4.4.

If I was Freeman, Tyree would be the guy everyone has to beat out.

I can see Colzie hitting the portal next. No idea why, probably because he was hurt all year. Did he exceed four games this year?

Nope. That’s why he’s a popular prediction to leave. He was “opting out” in a way. Not saying this is true but was a popular belief

He did not.
Part of me thinks Colzie sticks at least though spring, to recover but also to see what emerges at QB and at WR. He could well be our best outside WR next year.

Losing guys like Tyree does not make this roster better. If I was Freeman I would be doing everything I can to make sure I have guys like Tyree on next years roster.
Ok, but when he has guys like Greathouse who was only effective from the slot and Faison... he's not looking at splitting reps between them... sometimes you can do what you need to do and no matter what, the player just wanted to be "him"

Warrior? I love Tyree but I dont think I use that phrase on a guy that would get tackled if you blew on him. He put forth the effort and from all reports was a great teammate, but I would not think of the word warrior when describing him.
Cool. Don’t use it. I will. Good talk.

Problem is that while Tyree has 4.3/4.4 speed, he isn't all that shifty and doesn't have great balance. He doesn't really make plays in a phone booth.

Tyree is a slot and only a slot. Which is cool, but Faison, Greathouse and Thomas are also slots.

And frankly, Greathouse and Thomas are ahead of him and Faison is already splitting reps with him as a true freshman.

If I'm Freeman, you need to find a perimeter receiver. Tyree isn't that. I'm sure he wants Tyree to be part of the rotation, but the reality is that there's going to be a logjam at slot. ND has plenty of slots, they need X's. Tyree isn't an X.

Kinda wild to do before the bowl, but I guess it’s inevitable with portal opening on the 4th?
You know all of these things including NIL but especially shorter portal period and now for sure the expanded playoffs IMO are really going to lead to a full-on diminishment of the traditional bowl games outside the CFP games. For various reasons, many players simply aren't gonna hang around with their current teams (transferring, NFL, etc.), no one (mostly) is gonna care about the other other bowl games and even the coaches need to move fast now and may not be around for the bowl games. Gonna be quite the change.

Wasn't there a recent story that Freeman wanted him back for next season? Seems like to me this is Tyree wanting to transfer not MF and roster management.

I agree with Lucky that Tyree would be the guy everyone has to beat out for next season.

Ehh Tyree was taking reps away from Greathouse and Faison both better receivers
Yeah but he would’ve likely been named a captain. He as in a similar mold as Avery Davis. I don’t blame him for wanting more reps if that’s why he chose to leave.

To me losing players like tyree are either a good problem or disaster…. He’s not that good of a wr but he had a solid year when we didn’t have any good wrs except faison

It’s bad if we don’t drastically improve our wr room, it’s good if we go portal for a really good wr and can have faison and greathouse in slot meaning tyree is leaving because he won’t get enough PT. The other way it could be bad is if he’s leaving due to Parker staying or qb situation

Losing him for this bowl game is probably biggest issue

I realize at this point and time there is a lot of excitement around the young guys. I share some of that as well. Will there be that same excitement when they have to play in College Station to open next season? We'll see. Rico fell apart when they tried to feature him at Louisville. Greathouse was a mess when they tried to feature him at Clemson.

We're a 9-3 team that's going to play in the who gives a fuck bowl game for the second consecutive season. Losing our most productive WR does not seem like a good idea.
Rico fell apart at Duke actually … couldn’t get open to save his life until defender fell down last drive

Losing Nana & Tyree makes this roster weaker.

Tyree moved to receiver this year, a planned two year move, & was ND’s best deep threat during the season in the first year.

I wanted him back.
Great kid & dependable.

I’m not liking roster management by Freeman Day 1 of this cycle.
I will wait to see what our roster and staff looks like coming out of spring… so far two slight negative moves and no positives

IMO faison has beat him out at starting wr … unless they plan on playing him and tyree together then tyree is second string slot right now

I mean he has one year to convince the NFL he can play in the league and he probably sees the gap at QB as something that’s going to hurt his chances to show case his ability.

He’s not transferring to Georgia Ohio state and playing more so he’ll be with a worse qb than nd starts imo

I wish him the best, but I don't he has much of an NFL future, no matter where he plays his 5th year
