Losing Nana & Tyree makes this roster weaker.

Tyree moved to receiver this year, a planned two year move, & was ND’s best deep threat during the season in the first year.

I wanted him back.
Great kid & dependable.

I’m not liking roster management by Freeman Day 1 of this cycle.
I doubt this is Freeman's call.

I would be upset if it was.

I realize at this point and time there is a lot of excitement around the young guys. I share some of that as well. Will there be that same excitement when they have to play in College Station to open next season? We'll see. Rico fell apart when they tried to feature him at Louisville. Greathouse was a mess when they tried to feature him at Clemson.

We're a 9-3 team that's going to play in the who gives a fuck bowl game for the second consecutive season. Losing our most productive WR does not seem like a good idea.
It’s a common attitude to look on the bright side, but some people on this board do it a little too much.

The experience and ceiling that Tyree brings (this was just his first go at WR and he still led the team in WR production) is a significant loss.

Guess he didnt want to split snaps with Faison. Probably thinks he can be like Curtis Samuel at OSU with the right opportunity. It is what it is.

I have to agree.

Right now, he might be the 4th best actually. Thomas, if healthy, then Faison and Greathouse.

ND ironically has a logjam at slot receiver, while having terrible numbers overall at receiver.
No.
I would take Tyree as a Starter at A&M.
And if not a starter, 2nd string.

You play 6-8 receivers in a game during a full season, 6 of them on legitimate snaps.
Tyree is definitely top 6.

And people keep saying, “if healthy” talking about other WRs.
That’s the problem, they are never healthy.

Losing a guy like Tyree from the WR rotation hurts. You need 6-8 dependable, healthy guys.

I can’t blame him. I assume he has his degree, and he probably wants to be featured in a good offense that gets him the ball.

I don't disagree with you, but taking a step back, he was probably told that ND is taking 1 or 2 GTs at receiver which means they are at best going to take reps/targets from him and at worst possibly start over him. Combine that with the younger guys developing the way they are, that's not a business decision that a guy with his degree should take.
I completely understand it from his perspective. No ill will towards him, at all.

More speaking from a roster management perspective. This is not the approach I would take.

This is a whole new season of the college football year.. it’s going to get pretty wild.

Let’s hope Pete Bevacqua comes in big dick swinging & sets us on the right path.

Yeah I dunno. Faison might be “better” in some sense, and I get the logjam at slot, but you don’t give up a proven veteran like Tyree easily. You shouldn’t, anyway. For that matter I think we’ll miss Nana too.

They’re both the sort of guys who help you win football games and good teams are full of them.

Ehh Tyree was taking reps away from Greathouse and Faison both better receivers

Kid was a warrior for this program and there is no way the team is better without him. I hope he balls out and carves a nice career on Sundays. I remember how excited I was watching him hit the corner against Bama a few years back. Well done Chris.

Warrior? I love Tyree but I dont think I use that phrase on a guy that would get tackled if you blew on him. He put forth the effort and from all reports was a great teammate, but I would not think of the word warrior when describing him.

Great dude. Nothing but the best.

Not a surprise really, the slot is crowded AF.
It's a shame we're losing our best receiver. He had the most receptions after Evans, the most yards of anyone, and the highest average after Tobias (Who had half the receptions and 2/5 of the yards). Would like to see if Greathouse can play on the outside and/or Faison, but both should thrive and get more reps with Tyree gone.

Over 4 years broke only 5 tackles and they were all in one play. Costly fumbles and drops, never forget. I'd actually be higher on Merriweather in 2024 if both returned and that is saying something.

The thing I'm going to miss the most is his elite punt returning skills.....Seriously though tough loss.

Not going to blame players for wanting to play one more season closer to home or for a better team/opportunity.

Until ND can be continuously making it to the playoffs, this roster will have a lot of turnover, especially with seniors that have already graduated. The degree brings them & when they have it they can go play ball and focus on being closer to family or being featured on another team.

In the same sense, it can bring in graduate transfers too wanting to get that degree and thinking they have a better opportunity to play at ND - ala Jean-Baptiste.

Best of luck Jet.

Kid is in his final year of eligibility and was going to be 2nd string slot here. Idk how you convince a kid like that to stay, especially one who was a 5 star out of HS and has NFL dreams.

Jack deserves plenty of blame, too. He bent over backwards to make sure they re-signed with Under Armour but didn't do what was required to bring in a quality OC. If only his son played football for ND.
Really? How backward did he bend? The reason we resigned with them wasn't the massive contract offered but because his son needed a job? He was so desperate to keep his son's job at UA that he forced the deal with UA?

This overly simplistic take is bandied about as actual truth. I wanted Nike as bad as anyone on this forum btw.

Faison was already splitting reps with Tyree at slot. Faison is still a true freshman and he just has more versatility. He's already a better route runner than Tyree, and he'll only get better. He's also shiftier. And he's going to get better. Tyree is that awkward combination of top-flight straight line speed, but not particularly a "win in the phone booth" guy. But he lacks the length to really do much outside of slot.

Greathouse and Thomas also would be playing slot more if they were healthy. I don't think it's fair to say they're "never healthy". They had injury issues this year, but it was magnified by the fact that we had dangerously low bodies to begin with. This is why Kelly/Del screwing us over has really hindered the offense.

I agree that Tyree is one of the best 6 receivers currently. I have him at 4 right now. But here's the problem. The three ahead of him are also slot receivers. Now, some of them can switch over, but their strongest position is slot. Tyree can't be anything but slot. The other problem is that guys like Flores and Merriweather have a lot more room to grow.

While I would like having Tyree back next year, I think the plan should be to hit the portal for perimeter receivers to compete with Merriweather and Cam Williams and potentially Colzie, if he sticks around.
