Any idea what the issue could be? I hope he isn't in any legal trouble

This is what I was coming here to say. Nana I believe is more of a SDE, but he can play WDE. If Jordan is out for the 2021 season I think Nana and Osita would step in and take the reps. If this is true it sucks, but it’s not the end of the world.

Edit: I also think Jason Onye could make a few spot appearances at WDE to use his athleticism and rush the passer. Eventually Onye is a SDE, but he could help out at Vyper this upcoming season.

Sherm- I agree about NaNa and Osita. NaNa was highly recruited, TX kid, and wasn't the board talking earlier of a potential transfer after spring ball?

Until we know some confirmed information we cannot blame the coaches for a kids action(s).

Are we looking at a possibility of Botelho not being apart of the program? If I remember correctly didn't he punch another kid at the end of his high school career?

Character issues for Botelho??

Sounds like that’s the case. Don’t know if it’s academic or personal.

Such a shame-- this makes me wonder is he a cancer on this team?? Not a good locker room guy?? I would take personal issues over academic at this point.

This is so Aaron Lynch 2.0 that it hurts. We're a long distance girlfriend away from the exact same story line...

I mistakenly left off Osita from the Vyper depth chart.

But I think there is a big difference between an option and a good/playoff worthy option. Some of the options are non starters, IMO. If you read all the paid sites rankings of best players on the team, guys like Onye and Nana are not near the top of those lists. At least not yet. Where the LB’s are littered all over it. I think the staff would much rather get more LB’s involved than play a some of these guys out of position. I mean, we have White, Bauer, Liufau, Kiser, and Kollie (the highest rated defender from last class). Those would all seem to be of bigger priority than Onye or Nana at Vyper.

Keeping in mind that we don’t need to play a Vyper to be successful. If this comes to fruition, it shouldn’t be about fielding the best Vyper. It should be about fielding the best 11-22 defenders. Nana very well could be a part of that but I doubt Onye is. And it shouldn’t be at Vyper just because we lost one.

I’ve got no info on this one. Seems personal or disciplinary rather than academic though. I think if it was a done deal that he’s gone that we’d already know, but it certainly doesn’t look good.

Is this just a guess or from a reliable source?

I believe without any real information it’s all speculation. Usually though when there’s smoke there’s fire, unfortunately. I eluded to this a few pages back, whether it’s a character, academic, personal, or pure arrogance issue. He surely does have that A Lynch mentality, both his play, and his demeanor. That’s a great attribute to have if you can be disciplined. Let’s just hope that whatever the issue may be that it will be resolved quickly and he can remain on the team. I certainly hope to see him suit up for this team again.

I was wondering if Marist could slide into the Vyper position on pass rush situations and Simon could play the WILL spot. Marist’s best asset I saw last year was blitzing into the backfield. I’m intrigued with both of those guys on the field at the same time. I’m on the minority here, but I think Simon puts it all together this year and has a big year. Freeman’s defense should help Simon reach his potential as he doesn’t have to think so much and shouldn’t be hesitant like he has been on the past.

I was thinking the same thing with Marist moving to Vyper. Not as big, but speed kills.

Hopefully it is something he can come back from, as I never want to see someone lose the opportunity to earn a degree from Notre Dame. Not that there is any information he is leaving the program, I just hate seeing kids get bounced, or jumping ship because of sanctions stemming from anything(academic/or personal). Hoping whatever it may be is only a hiccup in the road of his journey to greatness, on the field and off. Fingers crossed!

The whole thing is kinda funny since there's all kinds of smoke and last summer we sent him home and no one knew a damn thing until much later.

I really, really hate to say it, but this is the "gap" (pending further elucidation on the situation) between us and OSU-Alabama-Clemson. This is a scary, violent dude who was about to wreck shit on the field. And like any long-term IE fan, a situation with him could be seen before he got on campus. I hope it works out. Loved him as a prospect. But ugh.
I hope he smashes dudes while wearing a gold helmet. But it's tough to be optimistic.

Do we have any idea when this incident occurred? If it was several weeks ago, I agree, but if this just happened late last week or more recent, maybe there hasn't been enough time to discuss with all required admin participants?

unless he's disturbing the culture, I hope they handle this internally and we still get to see him on the field.

I don't know what happened but I don't really want to know either. I just want to see this guy on the field.

Hoping it's not a situation where he will be leaving the program entirely. If it is, hopefully we can add another EDGE to the '22 class and lean on the transfer portal to bridge the depth gap next season.

The gist of it seems to be. Not done for the year. Though no resolution yet. NCAA not involved. And doesn’t believe it’s academics or drugs related.

From Prister, vibe seems slightly different. Could be drugs related, but the NCAA hasn't tested him. Could also be done for the year, or not, too early to tell. But, it's probably all or nothing, meaning a 4 game suspension like we've seen in the past seems very unlikely.

Personally, I'm preparing for pain.

Ugh this isn't about depth, this is about quality of depth. Foskey and Botelho would have been a 1-2 punch and it wouldn't have mattered who was the starter since they'd interchange and the backup very well could take over by year's end.

This will be a major loss for the 2021 team. Hopefully it gets worked out!

The point on being done for the year is that decision hasn’t been made yet. Otherwise it would’ve already been communicated to the public.

Thanks Lucky

We are going to have to patiently wait for Saturday anything before then is pure speculation.

My speculation is that this is all internal and it is time for Jordan to put up or shut up.

Long time forum viewer, 1st time poster. I don't have access to the premium boards, so am certainly missing some details some of the other posters here may have (although it sounds like there hasn't been much in terms of concrete information).

All that being said, and this thought is all speculation, I do remember him having issues with COVID compliance a while back. ND is also requiring its students to be fully vaccinated for the fall semester (with the exception of a few religious and medical exemptions). Perhaps he is refusing the vaccine or some other measure of COVID compliance. We are getting close enough to the fall semester where the issue of not being vaccinated would be coming up.

Welcome aboard. Keep posting.

Who knows what the issue may be, but vaccine stuff would be welcomed news I think with all other possibilities out there.

BTW, reminder to everyone to NOT throw out baseless theories or rumors without some sort of solid backing. We won't let you just bad mouth recruits. Until this is address by Coach Kelly or Botelho himself, I don't think we'll have any kind of an idea.

"I don't believe it involves recreational drugs. I don't believe it involves another person beyond Botelho.

I asked if the NCAA had conducted any testing of the Notre Dame football players. I was told no. For example, a positive test for something like PEDs with the NCAA would result in a season-long suspension."

Where do you get "it could be drug related"?
