Found it interesting recently to read on twitter I believe that he was sent home at one point. Sounds like he needed to mature. I believe it was in an interview with Elston. Usually those guys don't pan out too well for us, but I think it speaks to the character of the kid and his family understanding he needs Notre Dame more than Notre Dame needs him. Hoping the dude explodes this year.

Yeah that interview was in the SBT yesterday. Don't recall it ever being reported before.
Sent home in June, came back in August, so he didn't miss any actual practice. Sounded like he was not following COVID protocols.

In today's CFB they usually don't come back.

true, BUT i think ND having such a great relationship w/ the Hawaiian pipeline...i think the trust is there for family to make sure he got himself right and needs ND....

this also shouldn't have come as a surprise as he was known to have a certain attitude...and im not just talking about the "fight" but once that came out some other info was starting to surface

I could've sworn we did hear about it last year, because it was so curious. Might have only been after the fact though

You guys read about the WR at Washington, Puka Nacua? Apparently he was very anti-mask and never conformed to the program Covid protocols and claimed the virus was a hoax. His lack of compliance apparently caused a bunch of their OL to catch the virus from him and thus meant they had to postpone one of their games last fall. He left this offseason to head to BYU.

Elston was very complimentary of Botelho's attitude and buy-in after his return last year. Said he's been really locked in since that time, which is great news for him and our defense. I hope he gets to hit a punter at least once this coming season (without a flag).

Banks caught flat footed for a nanosecond. Excited to see what Botelho brings this fall.

Jordan seems to have done the off the field work and hopefully it pays off this fall. Looks good.

Botelho's going to have the ND career that Aaron Lynch should have had.

He's gonna stay TWO year?

That doesn't look like a sophomore to be. Can't wait to see he and Foskey this year, those 2 I think will thrive in Freeman's defense.

Botelho just needs to keep doing what he's doing. I can't decide if he's going to have more sacks or personal fouls this year, somewhere in the 8-12 range for either.

Seems like every ND defensive lineman this year has the same motto.

"These hands are rated E for everyone."

Botelho in Film study:
Alright, this is Wisconsin's offensive set. Second and two on our own 24, what defensive set might we call?

Botelho : Eagle Zipper Hero, unless the setback shifts into the I.

Coach Kelly : Good

[clicks to next slide]

Coach Kelly: , third and seven?

Botelho: Oakie Thunder Lion.

Coach Kellly : What's your assignment?

Botelho : Kill the quarterback.

Coach Kelly : [clicks to next slide]

Botelho : Hit the tight end so hard his girlfriend dies.

Coach Kelly : [clicks to next slide]

Botelho : Kill everybody.

Well, we almost made it through an entire offseason without any bullshit. Insiders are saying there’s something going on here. But, in famous fashion, they won’t say any details so VIP message boards are haywire and unreadable right now.

Freeman and Elston could be a Foskey injury away from having just about nothing at Vyper, if this is true. I didn’t realize Elston had let the cupboard run damn near dry behind Foskey and Botelho.

Yup, the latter is something that no one appears to acknowledge. With Aupiu transferring and Agu decomitting, unless we get Moss, then in two classes, 2021 and 2022, we will have only one Vyper - a low three-star in Schweitzer.

He probably used pen instead of pencil on a test and now has to sit out the year. Will self report to the NCAA the pen use, and vacate all wins from 2020.

Meanwhile all other schools can continue online under water basket weaving class, and will receive grades based on attendance/participation alone.

This would undoubtedly be devastating news for this years team and program. I think it’s reasonable to assume he would’ve been one of the most disruptive players on defense this year and next.

However, to address this. First, it wasn’t really an issue until this news. Not every position will have a 4 deep so a 3 deep is going to happen at some positions. Obviously, this is the news that makes it a terrible situation. So, it’s disingenuous to say it’s one thing nobody appears to acknowledge. There is a very logical reason for that. It wasn’t an issue until now. The depth chart before this news, in ‘22, would’ve been Foskey, Botelho, Schweitzer, and Gobaira.

Secondly, Gobaira is a WDE until he’s not and that will take some time. The numbers he’s recruited are just fine as he recruited them. He hasn’t missed a class since 2019 and won’t miss a class through 2023.

Laslty, if this plays out as Jordan not a part of the team then we’ll very likely add another player in the ‘22 class. It will really suck for this year but next year the numbers should get back to 3 or 4.

Are we looking at a possibility of Botelho not being apart of the program? If I remember correctly didn't he punch another kid at the end of his high school career?

Character issues for Botelho??

I suppose if Jordan won’t be part of the program this year (or part of the year) then we’ll see just how creative our new defensive coordinator can be……maybe leaning on a 3 - 4 alignment more often with a LB fulfilling the role of the Vyper. This may be an opportunity for someone like Osita to step up. Let’s not go into panic mode just yet until we really know what’s up.

And this is a great point that I was coming back to make. Even with Aupiu in the program, if either Foskey or Botelho went down, would we rather have Schweitzer/Aupiu play at Vyper or Freeman make adjustments to get more of the stud LB’s on the field?

This is terrible news but outside of recruiting an immediate impact Vyper in last class, there isn’t much that could’ve been. And there aren’t many guys like that out there. Neither Foskey or Botelho were ready for that.

Agu’s decommitment is irrelevant as it doesn’t impact the here and now. If Botelho is gone, he’ll get replaced in the ‘22 class. Some
perspective is need so we can focus on what they can control and what they can’t.

What about NaNa Osafo-Mensah??

This is what I was coming here to say. Nana I believe is more of a SDE, but he can play WDE. If Jordan is out for the 2021 season I think Nana and Osita would step in and take the reps. If this is true it sucks, but it’s not the end of the world.

Edit: I also think Jason Onye could make a few spot appearances at WDE to use his athleticism and rush the passer. Eventually Onye is a SDE, but he could help out at Vyper this upcoming season.
