To be fair, Turner Gill turned out to be a pretty terrible hire as well.

Gill is a really wonderful guy. He's a perfect fit at Liberty (his current gig). But players walked all over him at KU. It was really hard to watch.

Beaty finished 0-12 in his first year at Kansas.
I don't want my comments misconstrued, Weis was not a great HC, and obviously that record isn't on Beaty given the level of competition Kansas faced with a smaller roster of players. That said, given the fact Kansas had to open their pocketbooks for his buyout, was it worth it? I'm a little surprised they let him go last year after a 2-2 start given the Jayhawks present status in college football and the match ups they were faced with. They were embarrassed against Texas and Duke in those two losses, and this year they've certainly overtaken Iowa State for that coveted worst spot in the Big 12. Hindsight is a bitch, but if you're the Kansas AD in 2014 what do you do? Do you let Weis' contract ride and then not retain him, or do you still pay the buyout and look for a new coach?

I'd let the contract ride and use the time to find a new coach.

If you wait, that is two more recruiting cycles that Charlie is in charge of. He was killing that roster and needed to go. I know the record looks bad, but the recovery should happen sooner because of the firing early last year.

Of course this is all predicated by whether they hired the right replacement or not.

You let it ride, then look for a new coach. Afterall, it's Kansas. They're accustomed to going 0-12 most every year.

Really humble guy...I met him after his football days. He would come into my dad's bar once in a while where I was bar tending....I think he was playing Minor league baseball maybe. I remember when he told me who he was ... I about shit. He was very cool about it though...he just laughed, talked about football for a couple minutes, and went back to being that guy Turner who'd come in now and again.

Did you read the article?

Agreed, some of you need help.

Fat douchebag? Fat slob? Weiss just couldn't make it at ND. He's done more for ND football than any of you. I don't dig the shit this guy takes. Wrong.

I never understood the extreme hate for Chuck. He was a ND guy who really wanted to make it work. Those first two years were some fun times to be an ND fan. I just don't think he was ready to be "the guy"

I for one don't care that he is fat, obnoxious, and has a nose running problem. I wish him the best!

So some of you believe what Charlie said about being asked to donate six figures in order for his son to be accepted?

Because if you don't believe that, then Charlie is a liar and a douche.

Sucks his body is all jacked from the sideline crash and a botched surgery.

I do think he got the Fb program going in a direction that allowed BK come in and take it to another level.

Charlie broke a lot of barriers that were up internally imo.

I have no hard feelings. Some exciting games for sure. Ultimately, as every bears out, he was not qualified for the job. And frankly he should have no ill will towards ND either.

He absolutely was a huge jerk to a lot of people. Ultimately, it was his lack of interpersonal skills as much as his lack of experience running a program that sunk him. When he stopped winning he had ZERO allies or control.

Had dealings with him personally. Stand by what I said.

So him being a big meanie to you one time in passing should result in an eternity of him rotting in hell?

You must be very important...

I don't mind that he was a jerk. The problem is that he was a jerk AND its been repeatedly shown since he was fired that he has a super thin skin. If you're going to dish it and say "I don't care if people want to hear it" then I don't want to read sob stories the next 10 years about how much you weren't liked by the administration and how "its not fair".

Also this:

Kansas is still paying him through the end of this year, $208,333 a month, but that's not a big event in the Weis house. The money from South Bend was a big event. It always arrived right before Christmas. Charlie and Maura always held a little ceremony. Last year, when the final payment of $2.1 million came in, they did it one last time. Maura got a glass of wine. Charlie got a Coors Light. And they raised a toast to old Notre Dame.

is reason enough to hate him.
