Boston sold Ruth, lost Leahy to ND, Bucky Dent, etc, etc, etc, traded Esposito to the Rangers, Len Bias, Hobson, and ND's name painted in the end zone of a stadium in which BC chooses NOT to hold home games the lowest point in history?

This tool's great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was undoubtedly rooting for the lobsterbacks at Concord.

Friend, I don't believe Boston College was involved in any of the low moments you've highlighted above.

Lowest point in Boston College football's history, not the lowest point in the history of Boston.

This goes to Rhode's comment about the endzone paint, too. Think how much of a slap in the face it would be if we played USC in Notre Dame Stadium and it was a USC home game with 80% USC fans except for a little corner in the south end zone. Then on top of that, the Golden Dome is painted Cardinal and Mary is dressed up like Tommy Trojan. Fenway Park is borderline sacred to Bostonians. It's arguably the social hub of an entire five-state region, and a damn proud one at that. New Englanders identify with the region like Texans identify with their state or New Yorkers identify with their city. At the very core of that identity are the Patriots, Red Sox, and Fenway Park. Boston is more than happy to ignore college football entirely. I don't think I watched a college football game until I targeted Notre Dame as the school I wanted to go to. It's just not part of the culture here. But when BC allows the pro sports culture to be invaded / defiled, that's when people start getting pissy.

i think painting the endzones is a move that isnt worth doing. they should have left them blank or done the diagonal lines like ND stadium. It's an old style venue they should keep the old timey feel to the game. Get the refs to wear caps :)

I had the same argument about the uniforms. Everything about this game should have had a throwback feel. Bust out the leather helmets, but that's probably against safety protocols. Thanks, Obama.

I think one thing everyone keeps forgetting is that this is a Home Game on Notre Dame's schedule. Hence, our name in both endzones. We could have played this game in Notre Dame's stadium, but instead, played it in a historic venue in our opponent's city. We didn't disrespect them with anything, we gave BC a quasi-additional home game in prime time. Why should we also make it look like a neutral game? It's not, we are the team that gave up a home game to play in Boston.

So it's not really anything like USC playing in our stadium as the home team. It would be like USC giving up a home game to play us in Wrigley. Which hell... sign me up.

I don't think anyone is saying Notre Dame is doing anything wrong. I'm certainly not. Bostonians are angry with the BC administration for agreeing to this deal in the first place.

Back to my analogy, if USC gave up a game at LAMC to "host" Notre Dame in Notre Dame Stadium, they'd be well within their rights to paint the endzone crimson and gold and we'd all be furious with Swarbrick and Jenkins for allowing that to happen, even if we technically benefit from having the game geographically on our turf.

Swarbrick would get canned the very next second he agreed to that game lol

I would like to see Swarbrick and BK get a SS game in New Orleans scheduled against a SEC team that isn't LSU

I think the point is that BC had no choice but to agree to it. If they were a more powerful squad [had any respect for themselves as a program] they would have said "no" to Fenway, and would have taken the true road game. Instead, they're watching the Evil Empire move in, dolling up their own town and a storied baseball stadium, and they are powerless to do anything about it. They can pass it off as "of course we would let them come here, the game is so close to us!" but really the analogy that was posted yesterday is perfect. ND has shown up, marked their territory, they're gonna bang BC's girl, eat BC's food, and then skip town like it was nothing. And it's a low point for BC that they can't do anything about it. "Painted Endzones" is just the most visible evidence of the state of things.

I would love to watch this game from the Bleacher Bar at Fenway. I wonder how early you would have to get there to get a seat near the window.

The green monster is also a sore spot for Boston fans.

Okay, that's kind of in bad taste. I get covering up W.B. Mason and Granite City Electric, but it seems kind of messed up to put a tarp over the Red Sox Foundation and Jimmy Fund decals.

Are we being too confident? I'm starting to get nervous that we lay a big one against BC. If their defense is as stifling as everyone says, we'll have a difficult time running it, let's hope Kizer is on point on Saturday.

Their offense is worse than their defense is good. Clemson scored 34 and our offense is better than Clemson's.

Read Addazio's presser transcript from earlier this week. This is a man who knows what's coming Saturday night...

Shamrock Series: Steve Addazio's Press Conference For Notre Dame Game - BC Interruption

I know this speaks to your point about confidence, but if we don't beat them soundly, we have no business in the CFB playoff discussion.

Are the people who are upset about this Boston home game also upset about playing Maryland like 12 miles from their campus in 2011. I don't remember people complaining four years ago.

I think you're missing the point.

Not this: Notre Dame fans complaining about playing BC in Boston.

This: Boston people complaining about BC being a bitch and allowing ND to do this.

The last question and answer are really interesting.

On the passion of the Boston College-Notre Dame rivalry...
"Only nine seniors out of over 100 players on the team have played against Notre Dame. They don't really get that whole rivalry aspect. That really struck me today after practice. They don't have a sense of the real passion for that game.

"I remember when I was coaching [at Notre Dame], there was a real passion to come here to Boston College and play. I remember the year Boston College came to Notre Dame and cut away pieces of the turf at Notre Dame Stadium when they won. This is one of those games that our young guys don't quite understand. So we're going to do a good job of filling them in.

"It's really a great traditional game. It's just cool. That's what I love about college football. Sometimes, some of those things, you just can't get away from. It makes college football unique. Then of course, you're playing it at Fenway."

Granted none of their players were probably even born when they ruined our national title run in 1993. I will forever have a special place in my soul to eternally hate Boston College.
