Add to that the atmosphere around the stadium for SC and how poorly they travel as compared to how ND travels to LA. With any luck, he was at the game last year and saw the army of Irish fans outside tailgating as the SC fans were still in line at Starbucks getting their double shot, skim, stirred, carmel frappichino w/ fat free whipped cream.

.

With any luck, he has no idea ND played USC last season.

Helmholdt must be impressed easily from that Vine. I don't understand. Kinda looks like the video is in slow motion.

Why would anyone have to line up and kiss your ring? Because he's gained weight? As long as he continues to move like a linebacker I believe he will stay there. In 2014, Vincent Jackson was listed at 245 entering his senior season. As of today, he weighs 245 on the roster published by the USF Bulls. If a team still wants him at linebacker they can trim him down - he doesn't have that ripped, bowling ball look like Jeff Luc did. There is a little fat he can shed.

Reuben Foster might be an even better example. His recruiting profile had him listed at 6-1, 244 lbs. So not quite as heavy, not quite as tall but still a similar build. He's actually LOST weight since arriving at Bama - listed at 240 lbs. Some kids come into camp heavy, others light. The point is that a college strength and conditioning program can reshape the players body to fill the role they were recruited to play. If the staff decides they want him to play DE, I believe it has less to do with him being 10 lbs heavy and more to do with the fact that he can be an impact player at the position, more so than at linebacker.

Come on man... just kiss the ring and get it over with.

This kid is not coming to ND.

Whether there is benefits; monetary, sexual, or parental influence, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if there are none (doubtful.)

He isn't coming to ND.

Really? Did you talk to him or how do you know this?

FWIW, it's fairly common knowledge that he's talking with the ND staff regularly. This is precisely the kind of kid we can get with an big season and beating USC. Those are lofty tasks but one more time, I'm gonna believe we have some magic in South Bend this season with BK as coach.

all usc, all day-every day.

all the things I hear about this kid is a "rinse and repeat" situation.

I've heard this story before, and it ends up USC.

Midwest kid, that commits to sc, but still talks to anyone everyone about some Midwest school (whether its osu. mich, nd).

he loves the attention + he loves to talk = usc

I would imagine that in Cali that's all they are saying. What else would they say? I'm not betting on it because there is a lot that has to happen but this isn't a done deal yet.

I was under the impression that Michigan would be the team to beat here, if not SC. And that was before Harbaugh landed in AA...

We need to beat them up and down the field and send them back to Cali with their tails between their legs.

I think we'll be able to run on and score on them but I'm not convinced that BVG has a plan to stop them. A lot of onus is being placed on Zaire and his importance to next season. For me it should be on BVG and can he get all of this talent to play at the level its capable of. This D is absolutely loaded with talent and there is no reason they shouldn't be able to.

He was here for Stanford.

I don't know why ND fans forget that we beat them two years ago. We got Tyler Luatua from CA out of that 2013 game. Obviously not CA kids, but we also got Nick Watkins, Drue Tranquill and Nyles Morgan from that game. We also made a huge impression on JuJu Smith, who had the Irish in it until the end. I'm probably forgetting others as well.

So if you think you have the team to win, you go for it. And then win the damn game.

Excellent point. People forget that we won in 2010, 2012, and 2013. Because of last year's debacle, people seem to have forgotten that we've had some success against them lately.

Idk I'm skeptical. Do we want kids that are going to pick our school because we beat USC in the particular year before they enroll? Or do we want them to pick ND because that's where they want to be?

I really don't like Hayes and other USC commits coming to these events because our success stories flipping these kids are very rare while we can't quantify how many neutral recruits were swayed by somebody like Hayes to go to USC. I'd rather use our resources (not talking about money) on kids who aren't already committed to our rival and who may just be coming for a free plane ride and ticket to a big game of the team they will be playing for.

I am not proud. I will be ok if he flips no matter his reason.

Not sure what you mean by Max being the only success story but CJ Sanders and ESB are on campus right now out of California last season and ND got crushed last year in LA.

Does Bama and FSU want kids who pick them only because they win the national championships? Absolutely.

You negotiate from positions of strength. ND has features and benefits that SC does not. Stick to those. Not everyone wants to buy the same product. You can't miss a pitch because you think someone likes another product more than yours. We're talking Notre Dame here not Indiana or Kentucky. If every salesperson had a product like Notre Dame to sell, there would be a lot of happy salespeople.

I can tell you right now, SC can't take all of the WR--DB's this year that want to go there. Vaughn, Sidney, Jones, Burton, Pollard, Long, Crawford, Jackson, Thompson, McNight and Butler throw in Arizona guys N'Keal Harry and Byron Murphy, not to mention a handful of national guys they are on and not even they have enough room... plus some of those guys would be buried for years at SC, where as at the DB positions, there is quicker playing time in South Bend.

ND is SC's equal (superior in many areas) and there should never be a time where they act out of weakness when it comes to recruiting.

How has it worked out for us lately with football first/only kids? Not very well. More often than not they transfer. If you want to be Bama there are a lot of things that we would need to change.

I'm not suggesting we don't invite kids from California to the game. I'm suggesting we don't invite USC Commits to the game. There's a better chance that they are just there for a free trip and will actively recruit for USC than us flipping them. I'd rather not waste the coaches time and risk hurting our chances with kids we genuinely may get to come to ND.
