Dantonio is a great coach and would be great there. Didn't know he's from Texas. Is he charismatic enough/interested in all the extracurricular BS that goes along with that job, though? Guy's always struck me as all business. Not the frontman for the Longhorn Network. Also never been much of a recruiter, though maybe at UT you don't really need to be.
Harbaugh would be fascinating to watch there. Shaw's an interesting idea. So's Tomlin. But Briles seems like the leader out of the gate.

I don't see Gruden taking another job unless it's in the NFL. Shaw would be a good fit. He'd be in the hunt for a NC with the talent he could get there.

I'd go Shaw, Strong, Briles in that order but think all 3 would be great there.

Funny how Strong's name has been so quiet this off-season. Also heard that Bridgewater could be staying. That ND-L'ville game next year might be another in a long list of brutal games.

Recruiting.

I have no idea what you are talking about because I have never even heard of him being the lead recruiter for Bama...and I still don't see him landing at TX, anyway. He is only going to go somewhere with Saban's blessing. Barring that....

That would make me very happy. A good Stanford is bad for ND.

Actually, it is the opposite, imho. Proves that academics do not have to suffer for your university to have a good, even elite, football program. Keeps the Irish administration from getting complacent and buying into the crappy crutch that high academic standards=mediocrity on the football field.

I want the athletic department and academic department to be a little more congenial, not like they are in the SEC mind you, but just not combative. Having other schools that value academics and high performance on the football field is good for ND, I think.

Serious question here... why not Gary Pinkle? I have never heard his name being mentioned with any big time programs opening up. He is familiar with the landscape, has recruited Texas for many many years, and has turned out pretty decent seasons with mid level recruiting classes. Not to mention he would take the gig in a heart beat I'm sure. I bet Texas wouldn't have to pay him crazy money either. Money may be of no issue but it always helps. I think he could turn Texas into a power again. Hell, look what he did with Mizzou. Shithole of the midwest. They belong with Kansas, not Auburn.

There are only so many elite football players that choose their school on academics first. They all say that academics matter, but then we see them go to Georgia or Ole Miss. They obviously don't care in those scenarios. So we need to dominate the recruiting the small pool of these types of kids.

Having other schools "prove you can do it" doesn't do anything but give us warm fuzzies that we can do it here too. I personally don't need that reassurance. I would rather get the players they are accomplishing success with here at ND.

Joe Schad offered the following names -- Fisher, Malzahn, DAntonio, Strong, Shaw, Swinney, James Franklin, Mike Gundy -- that's from memory. Might have dropped one or two, but he didn't mention Patterson, Urban or Briles, not that that means anything.

I agree, but having actual competition for those good kids that nobody in the SEC outside of Vandy can even afford to look at, I think is good, because as I said, it keeps the administration from buying into the crutch that stiff academics means having to settle for poor results on the football field.

I am fine with there being about four schools that can actually afford to do that, as long as ND is the one grabbing the best ones, obviously.

He isn't, he is from Zanesville, Ohio.

Please David Shaw or Urban.

Is there even a chance his name comes up and they take a run at him?

I highly doubt that they would consider him, but Dantonio would slay there. I got nothing but respect for that dude. He's a great coach.

I would love for him to go because it would make our schedule easier, but at the same time I love that they are owning UofM as of late. And I don't see that coming to an end with him staying at MSU.

Of course there is... I thought the same thing when I saw it joked about... I would guess a lot has got to happen but it's far from impossible.

Can you imagine how dominant Texas would be if they hired Mark Dantonio and brought Pat Narduzzi along with him?

They would have the best defense in the country within 2 years and if they even managed mediocre offense they'd dominate the soft Big 12.
