This whole story is really boring now. I'd rather watch badminton or something. The fat lady has sung, the horse is dead, the ship has sailed, the water has past under the bridge..............yawn.

Until the interview tomorrow. That's why I think the Couric thing is a dumb idea...

Te'o has had really bad PR advice throughout this entire thing.
Everything that has happened on that end since Jan. 10 (when his agent tipped off ESPN and they started negotiating a story, per the New York Times) has been baffling. This story would be perceived in a completely different light if he'd just gotten ahead of it. Instead it'll dog him forever.

So true. No idea why that guy even still has a job. Completely screwed the pooch every step of the way.

Except for the fact that he's probably making a decent chunk of change off the interview. Also, he's innocent and really doesn't have anything to hide, so I don't see any problem with it.

I don't like Elway's comments..."Why wouldn't he know"...or some sh!t...

I can't even fathom how, at 21 I would have dealt with this...my 40+ self says maybe he should have been advised to involve a media person very early on w/ the promise of the story...but so that one of the vampires could vouch for what was going on. IDK...want this to be over so the guy can play and move on.

Something about all this puzzles me. When this story got big and nationally publicized back in Sept and "Lennay's" photos were all over the Internet and everywhere else, how did someone who knew O'Meara not see them then and mention to her that her pic was being used?

There have to be hundreds of friends, family members, co-workers, old school mates, etc. who would recognize a pic of her. Not one of them saw a pic of Lennay and said, "Hey! That's Diane!"??? Hard to see how this whole hoax went on so long without blowing up a lot earlier.

I think it just depends what media you pay attention to. I never saw Lennay's picture until last week. Celeste Tuioti-Mariner and JR Voasz (sp?) didn't hear her name in connection with Teo until December. A lot of reports just referred to Teo's friend or girlfriend without mentioning her name or showing her picture.

You're probably right. I don't recall ever seeing a pic of her before last week either, but it's hard to imagine that NOBODY of all the hundreds of people who know O'Meara never saw any of the pics of Lennay.

O'Riley

O'Riley

While flipping through the TV I happen to come across the Bill O'Riley show. They were showing what would be coming up and I saw a picture of Manti so thought I would leave in on and see what he said about it. Almost wish I wouldn't have. I had always thought he was fairly creditable but will have to give that serious consideration now. He stated his opinion that he thought Manti was in on the hoax because Manti claimed she was his girlfriend for 3 years and that he never once talked to her on the phone. That tells me there is no need to ever listen to his opinions again.

It's totally believable. Obviously the fake name would never ring a bell with any of her family or friends and no major media ever ran a picture of her. The only places you'd be able to match that name with her face is on salacious sports gossip/WAG sites catering to sports nerds. It probably says a positive thing for the woman that her circle of friends have too much going on in their lives to scour the internet for sports gossip and pretty girls.

Plus keep in mind that although ND football is huge it's just noise for many people. It's up there with Duke basketball, Packers football etc, and when you're in the bubble it seems inconceivable that anyone would NOT know everything about the program but a lot of people don't even know or care who won the Superbowl 2 years ago. O'Meara says she never heard of Manti before last week and I believe her completely.

What's more unbelievable is that every major media network in the country runs stories based on absolutely no vetting. My 14 year old nephew could have determined whether or not Lennay Kekua existed or attended Stanford if I'd given him 20 bucks and told him to look it up. Evidently the state of American news media is that they just copy and paste stories as verified if another media outlet has run on it. Even ESPN and Deadspin would have gone on with business as usual 6 months into the Kekua hoax if they hadn't been specifically tipped off. It's kind of scary that we have that kind of incompetence in the press. It makes you wonder what other stuff isn't properly researched... I mean not this fluff but important stuff like spin about the wars and economy etc.

overeazy, don't even stress Bill O'reilly. That guy is an entertainer just like his coworkers on the Left like Rachel Maddow. The dude used to host Inside Edition FFS. It's not news or commentary, it's just entertainment. The dude was railing against Bane in Batman being a swipe at Bain Capital... that should tell you all you need to know about that show. And I'm not blasting the Right either. The Leftist shows are just as stupid as FOX News is

This is the first issue you have had with Bill O'Riley's crediblity? Everyone else? Anyone else?

I find that more incredible than nobody recognizing Diane's picture.

I just want to point out that you all know I'm a humongous fan, but I never saw a picture of Lennay until recently. Nobody really ever used a picture of her.

That's what I kind of suspected. It seemed unlikely that multiple people could take turns carrying on long conversations (some on the phone and some via text) and then try to tell each of the conspirators everything that was discussed to "keep everyone in the loop" so that they didn't contradict each other.

3 Possibilities:

1. Ronaiah is mentally unstable
2. Ronaiah was out to get Manti for whatever reason
3. Ronaiah is gay and liked having a "relationship" with Manti.

my guess is all of the above

Its just ridiculous now that so many people think Manti was in on the hoax given the OVERWHELMING evidence to the contrary.

The "Doubters" have officially reached Birther/9-11 Truther levels.

Manti needs to get past mr nice guy/forgiveness of this Ronny scumbag and start to bury him both in court and in the press.
RT is lawyered up now, Manti needs to go after him hard with his people (or carlos :)
getting caught up i knew from the start and was worried that manti had Condon as his agent...my worse fears were realized over last couple days. complete and utter bugling of this entire situation!

scooby...and apparently I spelled it wrong, "ruh roh"

"ruh roh" He's 'rong!
Donald Earl "Don" Messick[1] (September 7, 1926 – October 24, 1997) was an American voice actor best known for his work for Hanna-Barbera. His best remembered vocal creations include Scooby-Doo, Bam Bam Rubble in The Flintstones, Astro the dog in The Jetsons, Muttley the dog in Wacky Races and Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines, Gears, Ratchet and Scavenger in The Transformers, Papa Smurf in The Smurfs, and Dr. Benton Quest in Johnny Quest. He also did the voice of "Snip" in the Rankin/Bass 1979 movie "Jack Frost".

1) Don Messick
2) Astro
3) Scooby.

My rare lucky ability to have the trivia answer because I am older than "shiit!"
