Don't really follow soccer all that much, but anytime I can root for my country, I'm all in.

You bring up an interesting point. I'm American but both my parents are Greek immigrants and obviously the rest of my family is Greek.

Soccer is one of those sports where I really relate to my Greek heritage and would root for them over the USA. The 2004 Euro Cup really cemented my love for the Greek team. The US is so good at every other damn sport that I feel like it's okay not to root for them so much in this one. IDK if that makes any sense but I guess you'd have to know what my life was like growing up.

Oh dude, I totally get it. Not sure if you've been to Greece or not, but you know how incredibly important the national team is for Greeks. Same for Spaniards (and most other countries). I've been to Spain while the national team is playing, and the country just stops. Completely. It's insane. And it's awesome.

Incidentally, a dude I play soccer with and am now good friends with is Greek. Crazy ass family lol (and wildly successful).

Haha yeah I've been to Greece like ten times because pretty much my whole family lives over there. Been to a couple World Cup qualifiers which were insane.

Greeks like to light things on fire when their soccer team does well.

The are speaking Greek in this video but it gives you a good idea about how we celebrate lol

I wish it was Monday. I will settle for a Cameroonian victory today though and then watching (hopefully) a good Spain-Netherlands game.

I root for the U.S. first, but for some reason I have always also rooted for England and the Dutch in the World Cup. Not sure why. In the past those squads have had the right mix of skill, physicality and flair for me, maybe.

Certainly with the English, it's partly the common language and shared cultural history (I mean, as a kid I grew up reading a lot of books that take place in England, like every Anglophone kid).

My friend jokes that rooting for these teams as well as ND shows that I am addicted to heartbreak. The English won the World Cup in 1966, and they have usually failed to meet expectations since. The Dutch have been runners up three times and never won. So, yeah. Maybe it's that.

I'm an Italian-American, so I want to like Italy, but their style of play is just too often too boring for me to really get excited about the Azzurri. And unlike gk, I'm a couple generations removed from an ancestor who actually lived there.

I root for Scotland and Germany generally speaking in soccer... blood ties being what they are... then you have the villians I always root against... but when Scotland or Germany play my country, you'd better believe I'm pulling for the home town boys every time.

So I go like this:

1.) USA

2.) Mix of: Anyone playing Mexico; anyone playing England; Scotland, Germany

Funny I have seen all of five total minutes of the World Cup thus far, on in the break room, and have been able to see both 'bad calls' live...

This game is 1000x more entertaining than the Brazil/Croatia game. Rooting for Cameroon hard as I have them in my pool.

I really want Mexico to lose this one... if they drop this they are is some serious shit... hell, they shouldn't even be here to begin with, and I still fully blame Jurgen for that.

Can someone who knows the rules better than me answer this?

I didn't see it, but if a pass was intended for a player, and he was offsides when the pass was released, he's offsides... again though, idk where this deflection occured and how it may have changed that...

Cameroon hasn't played that poorly offensively but defensively...wow. Their keeper is a statue.

Cameroon playing physical.

Was listening to the Croatia/Brazil game on ESPN radio, the announcer said that the Brazilians were flopping more than NBA players. Love that line-lol'd!

When the corner was kicked everyone was onside....deflected off a Cameroon player in the box and reached a Mexican player. The Mexican player was "offside" at the time of deflection but not at the original kick.
