So what it really comes down to is who announces first Hainsey or Holmes. Essentially by July 16th, we'll have Hainsey, Holmes, and Ewell committed. That would be one heck of a two month recruiting stretch.

Yea, both Daley and Whittaker are expected at some point in July, but nothing is set. I'd expect both to commit on or shortly after visits, if they take place. However, since I don't know when that would be, I left them off.

If we were to end July with the 5 players mentioned in the last few posts, 6 if the thinking is that Black is also a silent. I'd be extremely pleased with the class considering we haven't even had OV's yet. It would give the staff a lot of flexibility in who they target and how for the duration of the season. Focus on football.

I can see where the staff would have a discussion about Whittaker with MacCollister having a similar game. However, I think that in time Whittaker grows into a 3T and moves inside. I'd take up to 6 DL in this class. Ewell, Hinish, Whittaker, MacCollister, Daley, and ?. Gives you the luxury of going 7 months (?) and only having to focus on a couple of guys. If Echols comes, great. If not, we already have all bases covered.

Sounds like it. From what I've gathered and this isn't just the ND sites. UGA thinks they basically locked in his eventual commitment with the sister scholarship. With that said, FSU and Bama still think they have a punchers chance but ND seems out of it. If he ever visits, that could change. I remember reading that they do every Thanksgiving in South Bend with his grandma. Maybe we get a visit then or an OV sometime in the fall but until then I'd worry about other guys.

Assuming we take the middle and say 24 is the number, and we are currently at 14 with the expectation that we are going to land Ewell and Hainsey within the next week putting us at 16. Who are the remaining 8?

That leaves 4 spots for ideally another OL, pass rushers and secondary help.

My guess would be Daley if he visits, an OL not offered yet as I think Foster and Trey go elsewhere sadly, and no clue who the remaining two will be: (Considerations)

So one interesting point of order...

This year's class looks significantly stronger than last year's by "analyst" rankings. Using 247's formula, just adding Ewell and Black (if he "silents") would put on par with last year's full class... but with only 17 commits, and room to add up to 8 more. Just adding totally reasonable "best bet" types and stopping at 23 we get a score near 280 which would've placed 7th last year. A "dream" finish with a highly rated OT, OSB, etc. would have us in top 5.
