Who do you want to replace Brian Kelly?

but he wasn't coming in as a wr per his own admission--AT LEAST that was what he had said previously although no one knows if he was going to be moved once pouncy jumped

BUT YES i hate losing to stanford...but they are a stable, better academics, and its warm...right now we are picking up the broken pieces; hopefully the new staff has the answers

You have to think he would get moved. Would be stupid not to considering the depth chart.

Don't want to talk about this in a recruit's thread but with the loss of Adebo combined with the previous decommits, the argument for keeping BK to keep our class intact has basically been shot down.

Is it too late to make some sort of a move? The class has gone to shit and making a change probably doesn't make it any worse. We all know that none of the current commits are committed because of BK. We are going to have some serious depth issues at positions like WR as soon as next year.

Is it too late to offer a bunch of money to Venables? Any other guys that have upside that were passed up by us and other programs? Any NFL guys?

I am not so much concerned about next year. I am concerned about keeping whatever commits we have right now and potentially picking up some guys that could come along with a new HC.

Probably a pointless discussion but I just want to brainstorm.

Realistically, the problem is that if they were going to have this much staff turnover it made no sense to keep Kelly. You can't overhaul your entire staff on both sides of the ball but keep the head guy in charge and expect good results... or for a recruiting class to stick together. It's probably going to continue to get worse before it gets better.

Is it too late to make a move? No. Cal and Minnesota certainly didn't think so, at least. If ND wanted Chip Kelly and wanted to pay top money they could probably get him right now. If ND wanted to get a young, fired NFL coach like Mike McCoy they could probably do that too.

But he won't be fired. He will be "traded" as the Texans won't want him to go to a competitor like the Jags.

Okay. Kelly for O'Brien. We'll even throw in a conditional 2nd round pick that the Sixers have been stockpiling

O'Brien went to the same catholic prep school as Brian Kelly oddly enough.

It has been clear at least since NC State that a change needed to be made and BK is not the solution. Unfortunately we will not be rid of him until things are a total level 5 dumpster fire. The 2018 recruiting collapse will be what really stings.

To be clear, BOB will have his pick of any of the NFL openings and could probably convince a team to fire its coach just to get him (cough Colts cough)

Bill O'Brien isn't safe in Houston. Or so some reports say...

Was he responsible for trading for Oswhiler (sp?) and giving him a Peyton Manning type contract? If not he shouldn't be let go. If he was, then bye, bye.

It looks like Irsay is going to ride this two pony (CP & RG) show one more year.

No he wasn't. That's actually one of the big points of contention between him and management. He specifically didn't want Oswhiler and they ignored his opinion and signed him anyways.

Nope

It sure looks like that, but I've heard rumors saying that he was waiting for the Wildcard to see if anybody else shakes free.

Pretty tough for BK to convince recruits to board his burned up boat.

I don't follow the NFL all that closely but I do know Houston is going to the second round of the playoffs. And they want to toss O'Brien? Why?

Regardless, he is one of the very few conceivable candidates at this point for whom I'd gladly dump Kelly to hire.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I found this interesting.

One of the huge criticisms from this board is that BK throws his players under the bus...

Did Nick Saban's coordinator switch cost Alabama the title?

Saban was quick to downplay the changing of coordinators, putting it on the performance of the players against a formidable opponent.

“I think we had some drops,” Saban said. “I think we had some tipped balls. I think there were things that we could have done better. But I thought the preparation was good. I thought the organization was good. And I thought we gave our players a chance in this game to have success.”

Please don't take this as me endorsing BK, I just find it interesting when comparing things that this board sees as major shortcomings of BK, yet the gold standard of coaches just did. After a major shakeup in his staff no less...

Hush with your logic and intellectual consistency. It's all Kelly's fault. All of it!

Not to take this thread off target, but it still amazes me that NFL teams after so many failed examples are still willing to shell out big bucks to a player after just one good season. His numbers at Denver were good, but not outstanding and he was playing with the best D in the league. This is all on management, but I'd still take O'Brien as our next HC.

Most of the reports out now that report BOB as leaving (it may be mutual) cite the fact that O'Brien did not sign off on Osweiler, and that the owner and GM forced Brock into the locker room.

Makes sense. They complain about the Houston administration's boneheaded moves all the time on the Shag. Then again, there's probably few NFL fans that don't have complaints about their front office.
