Do you guys want to guess how many top 10 teams Brian Kelly beat at Cincinnati?
My guess is zero or 1. He's not a coach that will win big games.

What do you mean by "a continuation of what we currently have" ?

Tough call.
I dont see a young, up and comer making it at ND. BK, as far as he has fallen from favor, had years of HC experience. I think there is a ton of pressure at ND, much more than most schools that just say win at all cost. I dont think a young flame will last at ND.
With that said, I dont think BK is the future of ND. For whatever reason, I dont think he and his staff develops players. Yes, we can point to NFL players from ND but as a whole unit, there is a lot of unacceptable performances from highly rated players.
My list:
1) Chip Kelly - Man develops and is a winner
2) Mark Dantonio - Man wins with crap for talent. Yes a down year but after what? And the man won with guys that werent even be offered at ND
3) Gary Patterson - Brought a nothing program to a winning program against big in state colleges that hogged the recruits. Guy is a winner
0-2 against Top 10's
10-1 against Top 11-25

More accurately, 10-1 against the top 15-25. Never beat a top 14 team.
Zero. Herman has 3
By the way, Tom Herman coached teams at OSU and Houston are 11-0 as the underdog.
WHO HAVE YOU BEAT? This is what the committee looks at. They care much less about who you lose to. You don't make the playoffs by beating a few ranked teams. You make the playoffs by beating a few ELITE teams. Herman has proven he can do that. Brian Kelly can't.
To me, an ideal candidate for a blue blood job is someone that was a coordinator at a blue blood program and had a lot of success. The candidate then takes a head coaching job at a mid-tier school and has a lot of success. Tom Herman checks those boxes. BK only checked one and very few candidates in the country check both.

There's no perfect or zero risk candidate. Saban or Urbie wouldn't give us a second thought. Herman is worth a shot as is Fleck. No risk, no reward.
Playing it safe with BK for however long isn't going to get us anywhere unless he changes a lot of what he does + gets a ringer of a DC. IMHO Herman or Fleck would bring back some excitement and optimism.
McIntyre. Midwestern is closer to home than Colorado he's turned 2 teams around and comes from a legit coaching tree.
My concern with Fleck is his lack of big time experience. He's only been a position coach at OSU for what? one year? Herman was Ohio States O-coordinator for 3 years and won a Natty.
Different I know, But Herman has been in a pressure cooker (OSU) Fleck has not. Herman has the POTENTIAL to handle ND i'm not confident in Fleck.

Umm fleck was position coach at OSU, was OC for NIU when they went to the Orange Bowl. Was th wide receivers coach for the Tampa bay Bucs. The perfect example of him in recruiting and development is Corey Davis. Davis went to the high school on the other side of my town Wheaton South. Kid had 2 offers, WMU and Illinois State. Now he is one of the top receivers in the country and will be a high pick in next years draft. 2 star out of high school. Young, energetic, tireless worker never sleeps. That's what ND needs. That's the type of guy ND can get which is the most important part.
I don't know. Fleck seems like Mike Sanford in a couple of years. He might be a good coach for Notre Dame at some point but right now the job is bigger than he is. Let him go to Purdue for a couple of seasons first and see how he does.
We need a head coach with P5 head coaching experience - or maybe maybe a very experienced coordinator from a major program.
