Some of my friends and I were discussing which college football programs do we hate the most. It's funny. If you are a Scum fan, its OSU. If you are Bama its Auburn or LSU, but with ND fans, it seems we like to spread the hate.

Which program do you hate the most?

How is Miami not listed? Based on the Catholics vs Convicts years, that relationship is much more contentious than Mich State or Stanford. And does anyone really hate Navy? I get that we may hate playing them because of the triple option and cut blocks, but I don't see hating Navy in the way most ND fans hate USC, Michigan, and Miami.

I'm torn between the Skunk Bears and the Convicts. I'll simmer in my hateful juices for awhile and vote later.

scUM.

Their fans are the most obnoxious on the internet, IMO. Even worse than the worst, most uneducated portions of SEC fans.

It also helps that they got their miracle, generational coach, despite not really deserving it, while ND kind of flounders trying to hit the "reset" button.

They catch unbelievable breaks in their (weak) yearly schedule, and they do the bare minimum against said (weak) schedule, and still get all kinds of credit.

They return NO ONE this year, and yet they're a top-10 team already? They could end up being a top-10 team under Harbaugh, sure, but they haven't proven anything. They haven't even won a truly "big" game under Harbaugh yet.

Notre Dame is over-hyped some years, but they are under-hyped other years; it generally evens out... it feels like scUM always gets the benefit of the doubt each year, even under Hoke when it was clear they were bad, and yet their fans are the first to shout about how "irrelevant" ND is, and why they're overrated.

Also, there's the whole "all-time wins" and "winning percentage" battle (which BK may have ruined).

Finally, their most famous coach was largely a disappointment, when you're viewing him in the lens of college football history as a whole. He was also a racist and bigot, and is the reason ND didn't, and will never, join the B1G. And yet scUM fans like to shout that "ND thinks they're better than everyone, that's why they won't join a conference."

They're a football factory masquerading as a school that puts football players through a rigorous education, when really they're just a bunch of bullshit Skunkbears, milling about at Walmart together between games.

Fuck michigan.

I put Navy in there because a lot of alums complain about this rivalry and having to play them.. Chop blocking, injuries, if you don't win its national story... I don't think anyone hates them because its navy but maybe some of the other factors... I admit I dropped the ball with Miami.. didn't even think of them

Michigan, hands down. Michigan is not only the college football team I hate the most, they are the program that I hate the most in all of sports.

Living in South Bend where it is just a 5 minute drive to Michigan, we have a decent amount of Michigan fans in the 574 area. I hate their stadium, I hate that they have a basketball player on their football jerseys, and the words "Go Blue" make my ears bleed.

They have the worst fans in all of sports. When they are in South Bend, I give everyone of their fans the stink eye. Oklahoma fans are the nicest opposing fans I've ever met, Texas has good fans, but Michigan fans came from under a bridge.

Why do you think this is?

I hate U of M more than USC and to me that game with Michigan in 2018 will be the number 1 game I want to see all year

During the Cheaty Petey days I would say USC, but they've returned somewhat to an adversary you dislike but respect. There can be no respect for Michigan. From their toilet bowl stadium, lame fight song, and cocky fans that used to pick fights in South Bend, to their black-balling of ND and religious intolerance of Catholics...they're just a bunch of pricks. I honestly wish we never added them back to the schedule, because 37-0 to end the series for all time would have been a sweet parting shot.

45 days to go before the season kicks off... Isn't it better to focus our energy on hating other programs instead of in fighting with whats wrong with ours!

Save that for November !

Hate none.
Dislike Alabama/Saban greatly because of what they've done to professionalize college football. With Meyer, OSU is now joining them in spades.

"Would really like to beat" on our schedule? USC/Stanford. Michigan a distant third if they're there. Florida State/Clemson when they're there. All these are in their different ways semi-pro factories (even Stanford, as once admitted the players no longer have to do much in class if they don't want to) which degrade "amateur" academic-associated college football. I know that it cannot return to my day in the 50s/60s, but back in those prehistoric eras Nick Buoniconti made high B averages or better in English (later became a lawyer), and even thugs like Monte Stickles got good grades, and knew how to write and speak.

I know that's all "out of tune" with the light(?) intention of this thread, but it's an honest answer.

You can really hate MSU, IMO. State is like the French. You really don't like them but you kinda have to side with them anyways just because they play OSU/Skunk Bears.

Hate UM.
Dislike, but respect USC.
Don't really care about Miami either way. I sort of lump them in the FSU category. Fun to play them, but forgotten about the next week.
I'm mostly annoyed by Stanford.
Don't care about MSU.
I hate playing Navy, but I don't hate Navy as a program.

Real toss up between Michigan and PSU. I consider USC to be our greatest rival, but don't hate them like I do the other two.

Michigan is simple. The history of ND and Michigan paint a clear view of why hatred is needed to them. IrishLion summed it up pretty well.

Like Panda said... Living in PA makes football season insufferable sometimes. These PSU fans like to talk all kinds of shit about ND, and brag about JoePa, his wins, and the fact that PSU has "The largest alumni base." That last one really grinds my gears. They even argue that it proves they are on par (or better) with ND in terms of academics. Don't get me wrong, you can get a decent education there (I held back vomit typing that), but there is a massive difference there. You cannot say large alumni base = superior academics. It just means you have a MASSIVE student body, you know, like pretty much ALL Land Grant Schools.

It also really annoys me when people go to the "other" PSU campuses (PSU Schuylkill, Berks, etc.) and claim they are some holier than thou PSU alum who has done great things. Newsflash: You basically went to a 4 year community college.

Another favorite argument from PSU fans: How can you like ND when you didn't even go there? Really? Because last I checked you dropped out of PSU Schuylkill after a semester because you had a .5 GPA and couldn't tie your shoes.

Fuck 'em

Which Program Do you Hate the Most

Ohio State wouldn't have made my top 10 a few years ago, but they are meteroically rising up my list each season. I'd put them at 4, behind only U$C, scUM, and Florida State.

The other thing that drives my hate for scUM is that we should have beat them handily in 2010 and 2011, and maybe even 2013... but we shot ourselves in the foot, or were otherwise beaten over the head by terrible karma, and superior ND teams were made to look like mockeries against scUM.

We beat them by two or three scores in 2010 if Crist doesn't play through a concussion and without vision in one of his eyes.

We beat them by two or three scores in 2011 if Gary Gray knows how to turn his head around, and if Tommy doesn't have the ND version of the Butt Fumble.

We beat them in 2013 if our defense doesn't look totally inept, though that's tough after the losses from the '12 defense.

Historically, as a program, Michigan is top of my list, with USC as 1b.

Navy & Stanford are quickly gaining ground because I loathe both head coaches more than any other coaches in College Football.

Do we all hate USC less because the NCAA came down on them, set them back a couple of years, and they finally got (sort of) what was coming to them?

That's how I feel. Also, I think USC fans, albeit with their annoying in-game music, are less asshole-ish. The last ND-USC night game in South Bend, I jumped on a USC fan's back and yelled "Number 1" repeatedly. He didn't seem to mind that much.

I was blacked out so this is all second-hand information to me.

IMO we beat them by 2-3 scores if the defense doesn't let Denard Robinson look like we had 11 Joe Schmidts jogging around trying to tickle instead tackle.

There's a reason people say ND plays one friend, one rival, and one enemy. Michigan is the correct answer.
