There are three franchises that would get my money if their games were complete and cost $100+, and they're all mentioned above:

Assassin's Creed
Star Wars
NCAA Football

I would say Grand Theft Auto, but their multiplayer world just doesn't appeal to me for some reason... and based on how shallow GTAV's story mode was BEFORE they knew how popular GTA Online would become, I can only assume GTAVI's development will focus greatly on online co-op, sacrificing even more of the single-player campaign depth that made GTAIII and Vice City so great.

I miss the NCAA Football games. However, I will be picking of AC: Origins tomorrow, though I still need to beat South Park: A Fractured But Whole.

Also, need to beat Destiny 2's Prestige Raid. The Bathhouse is kicking my ass.

I would HAPPILY spend $120 for a Bethesda-scope KOTOR 3. I'd pay another $40 for DLC on par with Knights of the Nine.

Yeah we have talked about this but I would spend a silly amount of money for a modern KOTOR. I'm honestly shocked it hasn't happened yet.

I wish I had a Switch given the review on Mario Odyssey and I would really like to play Breath of the Wild.

Alas, I just spent way too much money to build a PC so I have other games I must play first. My son isn't old enough to enjoy video games, maybe in a couple years he'll be ready.

Anybody got any verdicts out on new games?

I've played about 30 minutes of AC: Origins

It's still the AC formula, but with some changes thrown in to mimic open-world games like Skyrim and The Witcher.

Rather than being confined to an area based on what the Animus/DNA will allow you to explore, the whole world is "open." You can "discover new locations" and get side-quest objectives based on their discovery; you upgrade a skill tree to mimic what type of play-style you want (brute, sneak, or genius); you grind resources to craft new tools; quests are based on your skill level... you'll get f*cked up if you try something above your paygrade.

I like the mechanic of using the eagle to see the landscape, rather than grinding tower-after-tower to unfog the in-game map. Combat is a little clunky, but that could just me not being adjusted yet after only 30 mins of play.

The game looks beautiful, and I haven't even been outside of my character's small home village yet.

Jury is still out overall, as I worry that it's going to be "smash hundreds of pots to collect small amounts of money" and "loot random ruins" in order to progress my character's abilities. But let me sink another 15 hours into the game and check back.

How is Odyssey?

Pretty fantastic. It's an experience I can only really describe as joyous. I think it's better than Sunshine but would put it below 64. My only complaint is that is much more about exploration than platforming thus far for me. As a result, the challenge really comes from using your platforming abilities to explore the environments thoroughly enough to find secrets, as opposed to putting an obvious goal at the end of a brutally hard (but straightforward) platforming challenge. I prefer the later, but this game is much more focused on the former. Even for an exploratory game, I think 64 found a better balance between the two. Regardless, I'm really enjoying it. Mario 64 is one of the best games of all time, so even discussing it is kind of unfair.

I haven't played AC in a long time, but the tower grind was the best part.

I actually agree, but depending on the game.

ACI and II were amazing to tower-grind... climb tall shit, get a sense of adventure and discovery, see amazing views, jump off, repeat. Almost therapeutic.

After that, it started to depend on the game, and whether there was a unique aspect to the climb. Otherwise, it was a boring slog (Black Flag is the exception; grinding towers on unvisited islands made sense within the game, and was also broken up by badass pirate simulation).

NBA 2K18. Huge fan of this series, but at first this game was frustrating me with how different it felt and looked compared to previous entries but it is starting to grow on me.

Can't close out a post in this thread without stating that I miss EA Sports NCAA Football :(

Finally built my PC and installed all the drivers/Win10 and Steam. Found a bunch of posts for "Best Skyrim mods" so I'm researching which graphics mods I can add to update it and complete my originally started game. I left off as LVL 45.

So excited to finally join Steam/PC gaming.

Did anyone see the new Samurai game presented yesterday in Paris?

I'm digging it for sure.

Consider me interested because it is Sucker Punch doing it and I absolutely loved the inFamous games. However, I am struggling to see how the combat will keep me entertained because I keep thinking just hack and slash. I will definitely be keeping my eye on it.

Is the new Madden worth purchasing?

Haven’t bought since I heard the gameplay went down hill. Vince Young was on the cover.

EA really messed up this time. This is the most downvoted comment in the history of Reddit.

Not following. What is this in reference to?
The monetization scheme for Star Wars Battlefront II is outrageous. They made a big show about how they wouldn't have a season pass this time, i.e. no paid map packs, but they replaced it with something worse. It's now pay-to-win and, in many cases, pay to play. Luke and Vader are locked behind the in-game currency equivalent of 40 hours of play time each. But you can get that currency much quicker by spending IRL cash. Power-ups are similar. You can get them all for "free" but the grind times are outrageous and you can bypass the progression with loot crate purchases.

Overwatch proved that gamers with tolerate and even celebrate microtransactions for well-designed cosmetic items but you can't be locking content that should be available to everyone on a full price AAA title. Right now, Battlefront II feels like a $60 mobile game.

EDIT: Another 30,000 downvotes in the last 45 minutes.

i think it needs to be pointed out also that amongst gamers there is a subgroup called "completionists" who like to get 100% completion/trophies on games (without having to spend ages/money doing it) and policies like this from EA really tick them off. For example, Somebody calculated to 100% finish Ubisoft's For Honor without paying extra for loot would take years.

Anyone have an HTC Vive? What games/apps do you use? I can't wait to try out Fallout VR.
