Started a new job and can’t get on IE during the day much anymore... miss you guys.

Now someone tell me why I should spend cash on Ghost of Tsushima, instead of saving the $60 towards a PS5.

Everyone says it's like Assassins Creed but I like it.

If that doesn't sell you I don't know what would honestly.

Finally beat Breath of the Wild. Only things left to accomplish are finish upgrading the Ancient Armor set, the Barbarian set, and complete another ~60 shrines for the Wild set. But I don't have the expansions, and thus no motivation to do any of that, so I'm probably done.

Strongly agree with hammer that it's a triumph as an open world game, but is pretty weak as a Zelda game. It's really uneven as an RPG, too. One of the core mechanics of most RPGs is character progression; the enjoyment one feels at leveling up, optimizing gear and talents, coming back and crushing difficult stuff you couldn't handle early on, etc.

BoW has almost none of that. You can jump off the Great Plateau after the tutorial, head straight to Ganon and kill him immediately with only 3 hearts. All of the fights are very easy once you know some pretty basic patterns. Most of the "upgrades" you get are breakable/ consumable, and have to be constantly farmed.

In sum: BoW is amazing for open-world exploration, meh as a Zelda game, and pathetic as an RPG. I hope they do better with the sequel.

I started Witcher III for the first time recently after finishing Hollow Knight. Been good so far, but I'm still just in the second chapter as I check every nook and cranny, do all the sidequests, etc. I kept hearing how combat was tough, but so far it doesn't seem that bad. I've been abusing Quen quite a bit to stay unscathed in fights.

I consistently get my ass kicked by most Lynels, so you must be pretty good at the vidya gamez if you can waltz over to Gannon and win with 3 hearts.

It's both one of the best games I've ever played and one of the worst games I've ever played at the same time.

Bad story, bad temples, bad enemies, annoying inventory system, bad quests, no progression system to speak of,

But jumping off a cliff and hang gliding over the next hillside... downright sumptuous. The elegance and unbridled freedom of the movement basically carries the whole game. It's movement system and size of the over world letting you revel in it are so good, that it basically makes up for everything else x2 over.

If they're able to put a decent game around that movement system then look out. It would be an all timer.

Have you upgraded your Stasis spell at the Hateno Ancient Tech lab? Using it to freeze an enemy and then spinning up on them with a high damage two-hander trivializes most fights. Similarly, you can one-shot any Lynel with Stasis + Ancient Arrow to the head. If you don't have any Ancient Arrows (or are saving them), Stasis + any arrow to the head will stun the Lynel so you can mount it and get a bunch of free attacks in. Those attacks conveniently don't use any durability for your equipped weapon.

You can of course try to time your dodges perfectly for a Flurry Rush, but that takes some practice. Those last two methods listed above are pretty much risk free.

So I've heard. I hope it's true, but Imperator being Dead on Arrival, and EU4's latest DLC, Emperor, completely breaking the game after 1.5 years of development has me leery of Paradox games at launch.

I had zero issues with EU4's emperor expansion.

I've done 3 full campaigns since launch, one as a superpower (France), a archbishoproc (koln), and a county/duchy (Munich/Bavaria).

What have you heard or experienced since then that has been bad? I have some minor complaints but nothing substantial

How long did it take you to start a campaign? Before the first hotfix (not even the only hotfix), countries all over were joining the HRE. Some even leaving, then rejoining, giving Austria tons of Imperial Authority and generally breaking the balance of power in Europe. They finally hotfixed that one.

But an even bigger issue is the AI's debt spiraling out of control. I've seen it plenty of times where countries get into 1000 ducats of debt and never get out of it. Heck, I was watching a stream where the Ottomans had 13000 ducats of debt! This debt causes countries to break alliances constantly and refuse to join offensive wars. Supposedly the very next hotfix should solve that problem, but it's been 2.5 months and laughably bad AI debt has been a thing for a while. A lot of people think it's related to the new merc system and the AI hiring, then disbanding mercs, then rehiring, then disbanding regulars, then rehiring them, but being out of manpower, hiring more mercs. So a lot of countries are actually perpetually low in manpower too.

I started playing the first day it came out with Koln. I dont recall countries joining the HRE. Maybe I got lucky though because that would be really frustrating to deal with.

As the dude who puts countries in debt (im kind of a dick when it comes to financing my country), I'm used to driving folks into astronomical debt so its possible I missed that too.

I read a bit about the merc stuff but I haven't used them a single time since the expansion. I have used them on occasion in the past when as France I have a global empire and I dont have the manpower to support my wars but im making several hundred ducats a month.

Any Elder Scrolls Online players in here?

I played it a bit. It was nice, I just didn't have the time to dedicate to an MMO then. I liked how it gave you options for completing quests, wasn't so cut and dry like your typical MMO fetch quests. Some decent stories too.

I'm still pretty early in Witcher III. Been spending most of my time seeking out all the POIs ahead of time and doing side quests. I've gotten pretty good at killing stuff 10+ levels above me, making good use of stacking bleed debuffs and abusing Quen for protection.

As far as the main story, I just got to the Peller so I did the first Ciri story. That whole thing with the kids and the Trail of Treats? Messed up! Love subtle little stories like that though that make you question moral issues.

I’m at the end game level now working on vet 12 man trials and vet 4 man dungeons. I have like 9 characters with different builds and roles. Lol.

That game is great. So hard though. I think I got only about 1/2 way through it before setting it down. I can't stand to look up an answer, but I definitely hit a wall. I'll probably pick it back up at some point though.

Unless you're playing on Death March, TW3 isn't a game that require a lot of optimization to beat comfortably. Hitting every PoI in Velen will over-level you very quickly to the point where many quests will grey out and provide no experience. Since the best part of the game is its story, and quests generally give much more experience than combat/ PoIs, I'd recommend accepting every quest you can ASAP (so make sure you visit every town early and interact with the bulletin board), and prioritizing your green quests, because those are the ones that are about to grey out for you.

That's the beauty though -- you feel like an absolute genius when you finally do beat one of those levels.

Definitely. Have you tried playing the Witness? If you like Baba is You I feel like you might enjoy it.

When are they going to discount the Switch? Gotta be soon with next gen Sony and X-Box consoles coming this holiday. They've been sitting at $300 since launch 4 years ago.

And they still can't keep them in stock.

The Lite is the "discounted" switch and there's rumors of a 4K model coming early next year.

Nintendo can't keep them in stock because they're inept, they like to artificially keep the supply down. 62 million units sold in 4 years. Sony has sold almost twice that many units in PS4s in 6 years and there's no shortage. Three of the top five best selling consoles of all time are now Sony consoles.

The Harry Potter PS5 game looks like it will be super fun but why can't they do this for Star Wars on a modern console???

Because EA don't think there's money to be made in a single player game.

Not only is there money to be made for EA, but there are consoles to be sold as well. I'm currently "out" on the upcoming console generation but I'd come in for a sick Star Wars game. Otherwise, I'll probably wait for TES VI.
