The lease on my current car (2011 CRV) is expiring and I've made the decision to buy a used vehicle. Currently looking for a 2010-2012 vehicle under $20K that can handle snow / light off-roading during fishing trips. I was originally going to get a dirt cheap Civic or Corolla but after the winter this year in Philly I think I need 4WD.

Any suggestions? Currently looking at an Outback, but I don't have any experience with Subies. Any gear heads here? I know basically nothing about cars.

I've got a lot of snow driving experience and I've found that if you put good tires on anything it makes a HUGE difference. We just bought a Ford Fusion and it drove like shit before I replaced the tires, now it's like a whole new ride. We also have a Camry and it's been great.

I just (in January) bought a 2014 Subaru Outback. It's a nice car. I am switching jobs soon, and will be doing real field service again, as in actually travelling from site to site. I will be moving to Albany, NY, and will be working in NY, VT, NH, and ME. So I needed something that would handle high mileage (Subaru Boxer engine), was decent/good on gas (30 HWY/24 CITY), could get through snow covered roads (full time AWD), and had room for tools and parts, etc. It's not the best in every category, but if you take all of the benefits, and put them into one vehicle; I would expect to pay much more than I did.

My vehicles are at least 8 years old. You don't want them but I have heard really good things about the Hybid SUV's that have been coming out. I think that is the direction I want to go next.

This is what I drive, '04 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

Got a lot of get up and go with a Supercharged V6, not great on gas mileage. It also has a big rust hole in the exhaust, it's loud as hell right now, gotta get that fixed. I've also got two 15" subs in the trunk, with plenty of room still for luggage or a cooler if you're tailgating.

Har har. We used to stack fucks like you 8 feet high, use ya as sandbags.

Haha just giving you a hard time, I currently drive a 95 Chevy 2500. Over 200,000 miles and still runs like a champ.

On a related note, I got to test drive a new Ford F250 at the Chicago Auto Show this year and that thing was awesome. I would gladly drive one of those.

'11 GMC Sierra Z71. Love it.

I've heard good things about Subaru's or used Audi's with AWD for snow driving though.

Hyundai Santa Fe or the Tucson might be a decent option. Loved our Santa Fe, might get one again if we can get the 3rd row seat to replace my 2008 X5 once the repair bills start pissing me off. I like the X5 but don't think I would get another one. Back seat legroom is great though.

We are due to replace our minivan, 2006 Sienna. Didn't like the newer version when I had a loaner for a few days. Think I'll be going the Honda Odyssey route if anyone cares to tuck it between their legs and talk minivans.

When I'm not ballin' in the Newport car, I actually drive a 2007 Mazda 3 S with over 100k miles. Not exciting at all.

Definitely go for the Odyssey. It's been the top minivan for several years running now.

When my wife pops in the next couple weeks, I'll have four kids under 6. Can't imagine life without the minivan.

I'm miserably practical when it comes to vehicles, and don't really understand the appeal of pouring thousands of dollars into a heavily depreciable asset simply for "status". But if I suddenly came into a large sum of money, I'd be tempted to pick up a Tesla Model S:

I bought an '06 Toyota Avalon last year. It's the most comfortable backseat in a car you can find. Very spacious and good trunk room. I averaged about 23 MPG over the summer and fall (traveling to the school I coach at which is a county over and 20 minutes away) and on the highway I get about 28.

I wanted something I could haul my friends around in. I was looking at a small SUV, but I ended up falling in love with the luxury (I got the highest trim level :)) and MPGs of the Avalon.

Have you spent a lot of time back there with Pocahontas?

Kevin O'leary, billionaire and co-host of the show 'Shark Tank' agrees with you. He goes off on a rant in his book about how cars are the worst investment you can possibly make, and advocates spending next to nothing on them, even if you can afford to.

2005 Prius, yep! Best car I've ever owned. Not that quiet, not a lot of room (I'm 6'3"), it just goes. My wife drives it mostly and she'd kill me if I traded it, unless it's another one. Averaged 45-48 mpg over 120,000 miles.

Literally 70% of the people in South Carolina would own one of these if the state ever gets to have free reign on gun laws. If it comes in Gun-metal Grey or Desert Eagle Silver that might raise up to 90%

03 Grand Cherokee with the i6 and an 05 expedition.
I drive the Jeep the most and I love it.
Took it out to play in Central PA in the snow this year. Had it buried to the body and pulled out like it was nothing.
