USC recruiting and everything else

LA... one question I've always had... how much is the rise of UCLA a threat to USC? Like if UCLA starts going on a run is it going to be an even recruiting matchup in Los Angeles? No doubt USC as a football power has more name recognition nationwide, but I've always wondered in So Cal how the two schools are viewed.

Camper is right, but I'll add this. USC football will always be king in L.A. in the same way UCLA basketball will always be king in L.A.

What I mean is, UCLA can make a dent into USC, a serious one, but if USC hires the right coach, it will always be ahead of UCLA in football. UCLA will have their years where they will be up on USC, but in the end, if USC is right, they are the top dog, even if both programs are doing well.

Also, just like there is a "ND type of kid", there is a USC type of kid that is succinctly different than a UCLA kid. I've talked to recruitniks and coaches in L.A. about it, and they agree. While the kids may overlap from time to time, there is definitely a difference overall. And even though I'm much more of a UCLA guy, the USC type kids (they have a certain swagger mixed in with some thug-life, if that makes sense) win football kids more than the UCLA type kids. Give them the right coach, and you get a Pete Carroll type of run.

Camper is right though, there is enough talent to be shared, but it's just not that often that the programs are good at the same time...

Just look at Oregon and ND... they get great talent on the reg from So Cal and USC still gets theirs and UCLA is winning...

UCLA will grab some great talent from SC so long as they win... but yeah, the second SC makes the right hire and has one 9 plus win season... or UCLA falls back even a little... right back to normal...

It would take SC falling off the grid completely for a five year period or so and UCLA to consistently play for titles at the same time to really make that change long term... I might be able to see one of those happen... both happening at once???...

For example... the SC types like the White, upper class, chickas,... while the UCLA types like the Asian mommies...

Ed O working Bama commit Viane Talamaivao hard and could potentially flip him. He is tight with Mama and if one picks SC the other could be very likely to follow.

It's not impossible. I can remember when UCLA beat USC on a somewhat regular basis.

I really hope Haden gives Coach O a chance.....

I really beleive he is the right for them right now.

I think guys who rip their shirts off in front of recruits and their families is the right guy too.

THE USC WILDBOYZ ARE BACK!

Pretty darn good win against Oregon State considering how the Beavers had Stanford very much on the ropes. Call me crazy, but I think USC has a sneaky good team. At least on the defensive side of the ball, they have a lot of talent and are playing well as a unit. On O, they have the playmakers but lack the execution/creativity.

I think there is a very real chance they beat Stanford with how their D can play physical up front. Stanford doesn't have the skill position players to threaten their secondary which is where they're vulnerable to big plays.

I think Stanford's depth (compared to SC's) in the trenches will be too much for the Trogans to overcome in the end. I do see it being a VERY close game, however.

What would you guys do if your Haden and USC finishes the year strong, let's say 10-4 with a bowl win (they play 13 regular season games). I'd be tempted to keep Ed O and know if he **** the bed I could find a stud coach next year like maybe even Chip.

If Orgeron can get them to 10-4 after the dumpster fire that program was in a few weeks ago I don't know why you wouldn't keep him.
He'll need to hire a good offensive coordinator, but he's a good coach and a great recruiter. He has major conference head coach experience. And he comes off at least as a fundamentally decent person, which would be a nice change of pace after Kiffin. Plus he'd bring some continuity for the guys who are there and stuck out the sanctions.
I don't know that bringing in some bigger name who'll need to blow up the program and start over necessarily makes more sense.

Is he wearing the latest Under Armour Incognito Uni???

Where can I get one. The book store? Osco's? E-Bay?

Do they come in a "shrinking old man" small-then-smaller?

On a side note, Orgeron was just on GameDay. Every time I see him on camera I get worried he's going to rip his shirt off.

while he is a coach of the enemy...i like his passion and i wouldn't mind him coming to ND if he doesn't get the HC position which it appears he wont...Haden said it would be difficult for him to remain if he doesn't get the position as it could create a divide in the locker room of those who are in support of him

AND he can recruit with the best of them

I don't know man... hiring him at ND is just begging for a scandal down the road. He's a shady character, much like Tosh.
