if you have ever worked with customers you would quickly realize they are never right

They might not be, but word of mouth can be your best friend or worst enemy in advertising. If you are talking thousands of dollars maybe fight it, but if its something piddly its best just to swallow it and move on.

Two of what officers? The guys who dragged the dude off are not United employees, so United cannot place them on administrative leave.
I believe it was reported this morning as 2 of their security officers. As well as 1 employee already suspended I believe.

The security officers are airport employees, not United employees. I can't believe that the news outlets are still getting away with sensationalizing this by acting like it was airline employees who manhandled the guy.

I know. But you would think, at some point, someone in the industry would get on one of the shows and say, "Hey, this is important. You guys keep characterizing these guys as airline employees when they are not." Meh! Who knows; maybe someone has tried and the network just edited out their comments?

Didn't say it was United suspending the two guys.

so glad United is taking a beating (no pun) over this.
used to be a big continental guy, then united bought them and its been "hell in the skies" ever since.
with all the mergers, rregulatory changes over last decades (reduction in competition, get to write their own regulations) these airlines really have no competition, so people cant even "vote with their wallets" and not fly united.

big biz always wins even when they lose.

Not United, but Delta:

Delta Air Lines kicks US family off flight after row over toddler - BBC News

A family of four got kicked off a plane, after being told that they couldn't let their 1-year-old sit in his own seat with a carseat. Delta wanted them to give up the seat to a standby passenger, and told the family that the carseat and 1-year-old violated FAA laws/rules.

The crew member and Delta rep that showed up to "handle" the situation first told them that if they didn't comply and give up the seat, that they would be jailed and their children would be placed in foster care.

The crew member then called for police. The guy was polite the whole time, and told the officer that if it meant the plane could take off, he would hold the toddler in his lap and give up the seat, despite paying for it.

The crew member then told them that this was no longer an option, and that the whole family needed to leave the flight. They didn't offer to help the family find lodging or anything, only telling them that they were on their own.

Interesting for a few reasons:

Delta personnel first threatened the family over violation of an FAA "law" that doesn't exist.

Second, Delta itself recommends that parents purchase seats for children under two years of age, that way you can bring a car seat and provide your child with the safest flight possible. So in this case, the Delta employee was directly contradicting Delta's own policy.

Third, the flight was overbooked, so when the family left, all four seats were immediately filled.

So, either the employees didn't know their own regulations, or else they were blatantly lying about their regulations in order to squeeze one more person onto an overbooked flight. Even worse, if they were blatantly lying, was that the employee went to fear tactics at one point.

I wouldn't have handled it as well as this guy did.

Also, props to the cop that showed up and tried to smooth things over and get the flight off the ground.

I felt bad for them until I realized they were stuck in in Maui and documented things so well they will surely get a seven figure settlement to STFO. Booting a family, already seated, off a plane at midnight with no compensation? Pretty incomprehensible but at this point not surprising.

At this point, I'm hoping to get kicked off a flight. Daddy likey paydays.

Oh yeah, Delta already "compensated" them, aka hooked them up with a nice little settlement of some sort.

Hopefully it was a nice chunk of cash, because hiring an attorney would have been a cake-walk towards a LARGE sum of money, probably.

Not defending the treatment of the family, but apparently the issue arose because the dad had ordered the ticket under the name of his older son who ended up taking a different flight. Once his older son, "Mason", did not take his seat, he was officially declared a no show and that means that Delta is allowed to fill the seat with a standby passenger. Dad did not want to give up the seat because he had paid for it and had hoped that he could simply move his child who they had declared a "lap infant" (got him on the plane without purchasing a ticket for him) into the seat that was formerly booked for his older son.

Both sides have a reason to argue, but the real problems are 1) the dad didn't realize that if they simply held their child for the flight and gave up the seat, they would remain on the flight 2) the Delta employees not knowing their own guidelines or the FAA guidelines that actually ENCOURAGE parents to use car seats for younger children and DISCOURAGE parents holding children on a flight 3) the rudeness of the flight staff and particularly the phrase "you will be imprisoned and your kids put in foster care".

The video is a mess, but most of that is because of ignorance and a lack of customer service skills. And then just opting to boot the family off the plane after they agreed to play by the flight staff's rules is just bonkers.

This, that just pissed me off, especially since they paid for that seat. I hope they did/do receive a nice settlement from Delta. This shit is ridiculous lately.
