That's a long drive for a day trip if you're talking Grand Canyon (which itself merits a couple days)
Sedona is beautiful. Totally different experiences driving the south vs north roads... I'd say proof of God but Whiskyjack might ban me.
If you can, do the helicopter thing.
Sedona to the GC can be done in less than two hours if you want to just see the Gc and spend a few hours. The town of Sedona and some of the hikes are amazing.

I'm going to Sedona, AZ for a few days with the wife. Any recommendations on hikes, places to eat and drink? Is it worth it for a day trip to GCNP?
If you've both been to the Grand Canyon as kids, I'd say skip it. It's seems smaller as an adult. If you're gonna hike it to the river... that's something totally different.

Rule #1. Get a convertible

Here's a patio guide of Sedona joints. I like eating at the airport (sounds weird but read up on Mesa Grill) and Picazzo's Pizza for light salad/protein fare on hike days.

------

If you guys like Beer and wanna day trip to cool locales, hit these two places:

- It's in Flagstaff. It's a great drive up 89A through the Ponderosa Pines past Slide Rock in Oak Creek Canyon

- A must stop on the way to Jerome, which goes hand in hand with Sedona as the must sees of Northern, AZ

------

If you're in to vintage trains, there are trains out of Williams and Cornville. I like the Verde Canyon in Cornville cuz it's next to Jerome.

VerdeRR2.jpg

When you go to Jerome. I eat on the sketchy patio of the Haunted Hamburger. Foods not great, building's nothing special but it's the Haunted Hamburger dammit. It's like eating at some mom & pop truck stop on US 41 in the early 70's... on the top of a mountain, on a totally sketch patio that your Great Uncle Earl built with salvaged lumber from the shed he tore down 10 years ago.

If you want the best food Jerome has to offer, that's the Clinkscale at the bottom. Very cool joint, old fashioned hotel/saloon like the Lucky Lady in Deadwood.

When you're done in Jerome, take 30 minutes and drive to the top of the mountain. GREAT roadside vistas overlooking the Verde Valley all along 89A on your way to the top of Mingus Mtn.

Anyone with a Go-To spot for spring break/fall break in Florida?

1) Anywhere along A30 Panhandle.
-We usually go to various spots in and around Destin. We love it. Gulf Shores to Mexico Beach, you name it. But the weather is hit or miss, so we're considering opening up the playbook.
2) Anywhere from Sanibel/Ft Myers down to Naples/Marco Island.
-Wife and I have been to Marco and loved it. But flights down there right now are like $1000 per person (family of 4...yuck).

2 Kids, ages 9 and 5. Prefer a VRBO/AirBB house. Prefer quieter beach setting. Open to resorts. Not trying to break the bank here. Have seen week-long stays at various places range from $2500-$5000. Coming from IND so we'd have to fly if it's anywhere beyond the Panhandle. Flights are still stupid-expensive, so if we fly, it's gotta be somewhere cheap.

My go to spot is a port with a cruise ship.

We've been going to Delray Beach for the last few years- it has a good mix for people of all ages IMO. Atlantic Ave is legendary, has great live music (that you will be able to hear/watch from the street even), and the dining is top notch. Beach is nice and clean, and you don't get the riff raff that Fort Lauderdale or Miami have to the south of it. Airbnbs are plentiful. The nightlife is solid too if you are able to get away for a night. All the restaurants do pretty solid Happy Hour deals on both food and drink. You can easily fly into Palm Beach International which would be a 20 minute Uber, or Fort Lauderdale's airport is about 40 minutes away. They also have a free golf cart service there that you can request on the phone and will take you and your family all over. For example, a Pop Stroke (Tiger Woods owned minigolf course with a bunch of bars, perfect for kids and adults) opened about a mile and a half from Atlantic Ave and they expanded how far the golf carts will take you for that.

We go to Ormond Beach every year with the kids for spring break. This year we decided to drive. I’ve stopped at every Buc-ee’s so far just so we can take a family photo with that big bronze beaver. Memories are being made.
You can't call it a vacation if you don't stop at Buc-ee's. I popped my Buc-ee's cherry in February. Spent almost an hour in there and dropped $100, not counting gas. The Blueberry Jalapeno jam is the bomb.

My wife and I took the ~2 hr trip from NKY to the Richmond Buc-ee's a couple of weeks ago for date night. We put the kids' Easter baskets together with all kinds of goodies from that wonderous place.

We go to Lake Cumberland a few times every Summer, and we always make the stop at Buc-ee's. The kids love the candy and snacks, and my wife likes to get them matching Buc-ee's swimsuits lol

I like to make the stop for the Buc-ee's brand orange cream soda and the pulled pork sandwiches

Just got back from a week long bareboat sailing charter in the British Virgin Islands. Excellent family vacation with my wife & 2 boys. High season can be busy, but it’s not difficult to find a quiet anchorage if you want. Highlights were pods of dolphins swimming under the boat, stargazing on bow of boat, eating lobster and beaches on Anegada Island. You depart from the main island and stay on a different island each night. You can go ashore with your dinghy, explore the beaches, take a hike or go to dinner at beach restaurants. Quality family time just chilling out with the family.

I think I spent 100 on just key lime pie fudge.

We grabbed the different pudding cups, BBQ, jerky (sweet & spicy was my fav), the jam and several other things. Definitely not the typical gas station food.

Nice! Might need some details on this trip, if you wouldn't mind DM'ing me about them. I've been looking into something like this for when my son gets a little bigger (or to just go as a couples trip).

Last summer, the family was on a road trip and out of nowhere, B9 starts frantically searching for a cup to pee in. He does a good job of keeping it contained and not spilling. My wife and I ask why he didn't just ask when we passed other places to stop. His response was that he was trying to hold it until Buc-ees to ensure we would stop because he wanted the candied nuts. Mind you, we had already stopped at one earlier that day. That place is infectious.

My first time in a Bucc-ee's was in Texas. My niece is going to Baylor so we flew into Austin stayed a day and drove to Baylor and stayed for a football game as well.. On the way back to Austin we stopped at Buc-ee's and I was not prepared.

I left with the following:
10lbs of variety jerky (beef, pork, bison)
A bedazzled Buffalo head
A beer flagon made from an actual longhorn horn
BBQ sandwiches,
smoked turkey legs
immodium (preparing ahead of time for the onset of the "itis" and eventual toilet time back at the hotel)
and some sweet ass leather boots

Never been inside a Bucc-ee's. I did pass one on a trip a year ago and I was mesmerized as I passed the mass of gas pumps the length of a football field.

The one between Austin and San Antonio is even bigger than the one in Temple (likely where you stopped at).

New Bucc-ee's in Sevierville, TN. Can not wait to hit that up when we go to Pigeon Gorge this summer.

Stopped there on the way home in February. They added a car wash to this location. Supposed to be building their biggest one near Daytona Beach.

They are a Texas based company. The plan is to have the largest one be built in Texas.

Looking for any recommendations for a boys trip... A good amount of dudes in Chicago, one in NYC, two in Florida, and one in Colorado. Going mid July. Current front runner is meeting up somewhere in Colorado, but we also entertained meeting up somewhere in Florida. Anyone got any other good ideas?

My one and only buccees experience is one in Texas and I knew it was gonna be good when I saw people legitimately tailgaiting in the parking lot. Grill out with brats and wings. Brewskis in the foldable chair cup holders.

Inside did not disappoint. Felt like everyone was forced to take a hit of crack before entrance.
