When I was in high school, my mom's side of the family (26 of us) all ditched the east coast beaches in favor of the Finger Lakes in NY and never looked back.

--- much better bang for your buck at the lake
---- fresh water, no sand
--- quiet, peaceful, no big crowds but you can raise hell if you want and bother no one
--- dozens of wineries close by

I grew up pretty spoiled in that regard, less than 15 minutes from the beach and 30 minutes from really good beaches. We'd spend the whole summer in the ocean and we'd never pay a dime. The entire concept of a "beach vacation" is completely foreign to me because the beach is just a normal thing you go to on a random Tuesday in July.

That's good. It's depressing how many of my friends and family think that a vacation must include a beach.

Hilton Head - today through the 1st.

First time heading down there - getting a house. Going with another family that's been going down there for years. They have our hopes and expectations up.

Should get some thunderstorms down there thanks to TS but i think near mid week it should be good.

You don't need to tell me. My four nights at the lake in New Hampshire were in a state park. I paid $25 a night (plus about a buck in quarters for the showers).

Hilton Head is dope. Fun fact: my daughter was conceived in Hilton Head during the second half of Super Bowl XLVIII. So you'll have that to think about for the next week or so. You're welcome.

Breakfast - Kenny B's French Quarter Cafe, Lowcountry Backyard
Lunch - Fiesta Fresh Mexican Grill
Dinner - Truffle's Cafe

If you make it to Savannah, Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room is not to be missed.

My grandma and I are going to visit relatives in Rhode Island the second week in July. Any recommendations on stuff to do in RI, CT, and maybe Boston?

Get on plane and go somewhere nice instead?

I went to RMNP in December of last year, and it was really cool, although we drove/hiked for about 4 hours, and never saw an animal of note.

I think in October it'll be even prettier. Check out the 'Stanley/Shining' hotel if you go that route - only like 20 minutes away from RMNP IIRC. You can get a drink there and it's pretty Erie.

reps, did you go along trail Ridge Road that goes around the park?

Yep. And it was a cool road and you can see far into the fields/up the mountains, so if the animals were active, it would have been perfect. For whatever reason, we saw nothing that day, and were surprised.

I was in Hilton Head last week. Was a lot of fun, first time being there. Growing up my family vacationed on Fripp Island just to the north pretty much every year, and now we have a house on Seabrook so I never really go anywhere besides Charleston/Seabrook.

Hilton Head was a really awesome blend of a "developed" beach town without massive overcrowding and trashiness. You have all the amenities/restaurants/stores/etc. right there but the beaches were pristine with plenty of room to bocce ball/spike ball/volleyball/soccer/whatever. It was a great time. We were there for my wife's family reunion and with 60+ people it worked out surprisingly well.

Only negative was the golf. Played twice, greens were aerated and the courses overall weren't that nice for the price you're paying. I expected a bit more.

In a month I'm going up to the finger lakes with a bunch of classmates from ND. We do it every two years as a reunion of sorts to stay in touch... one of the guys has a house with a boat. Tons of fun. Agree with everything you said... and yeah the best part is no one getting in your business.

I've heard the Riesling is pretty good up there. That true?

+20 for nature, -10 for history.

Zero nature. Farmland is not nature.

You are half right...lake houses are a sign of wealth. Nothing wrong with jorts fam. Trucker hats are lit if they have MAGA on them.

Do you even employment bro?

Ha. Wife is a teacher (off for the Summer and on her way to Germany for two weeks with my daughter), i'm a firefighter. That was the first 2 week vacation of my life. It' pretty easy to get time off in my job as you can switch with other guys and take vacation days. There's also not a ton of work to come back to that piles up.

I'll be in Vegas this weekend.

I just got back from my first trip to Vegas, for a bachelor party. I honestly wasn't even prepared for how much fun it was going to be. The food, the pool, the casino, the booze ... what is it they say, Disney for grown ups? It's kind of like that. Absolute blast.

heading up to Traverse City, MI this weekend, can't wait

Jealous, it's so beautiful up there.

You don't have the ESPN/Wiz Signature Tour already booked? May be too late.

2-3 weeks back to western Pa for homecoming golf tournament in August (and to spend time with friends in my home town) then in late Oct a western trip to Ariz Utah to see the Big 5, Monument Valley, and Grand Canyon, time to do these things now before I get too old.

I've been to Vegas so many times the novelty wore off years ago, not that it's not still fun at times. We saw a show tonight... hitting a top buffet tomorrow. I'll have to post pics when I get back...

¿Is this Isla de Mujeres?

I've been there a couple of times, but was ensconced in Cozumel.

Clear, cool water. I recommend snorkeling. Your balls will sweat, even in the "winter" if you venture into the interior. Still worthwhile, though.

Life is a beach. Make of it whatever you can(cun).
