Maybe everyone will understand the argument is null&void if you don't know how to spell his name from here on out.

I'm not gonna go through the years of people calling him Reese... Come on man..

The only person that still spells Rees wrong in 2020 is Irishman77, and he's so stubborn he'll probably never change. Just ask his underwear.

I heard he karate kicked two cops and Carlo Calabrese had to talk him down from taking out the entire SWAT team.

Has Notre Dame ever had another more bizarre cult than the cult of Tommy? He really wasn't anything special at football. Did his job and all that though. Seems to be that he is universally loved by Notre Dame fans and that is really hard to do unless you are a transcendent guy like Tate, Floyd, Jaylon, (insert beastly linemen here).

I don't know about universally loved. He's probably one of the more polarizing figures from the last 10 years. People rooted for him after he helped break the losing streak against USC, came in to clean up after Golson both in 2012 and in 2013 after Everett was suspended the entire year. At the same time he got booed and received deaths threats from fans because they thought higher recruited players on the bench should have played ahead of him. When the chips were on the table though, he was the best QB we had on roster at least 3 of the 4 years he was on campus. His class was also the winningest group since the 90s (At least at the time), so he helped turn the program around in a way. He certainly wasn't the most gifted athlete to play for our Lady, but you can't deny his commitment and preparation. Book shares his dedication in the film room and it shows.

*NDFB announces a new coordinator*

Fan base: "Stop it. Stop! Who is that?"
Kelly: "Our new offensive coordinator, Thomas Rees. He's your favorite scrappy overachieving alumnus."
Fan base: "Yeah, when he's snapping our losing streak to USC. This program blows..."

SCENARIO ONE:

Your starting QB, a redshirt frosh with tons of mobility and a cannon for an arm, is playing like a true freshman against a lowly in-state opponent that you should FAR outclass.

It's the fourth quarter, and that frosh takes one on the chin, and gets knocked out of the game with the team about to lose.

Who do you turn to? The man that lost his job twice before. The man who keeps coming back anyway.

That man gets booed by his OWN HOME FANS when he steps onto the field to try and save the day.

But then that man DOES save the day. That man is facing a fourth down, and an unblocked blitzer comes straight through the line. That man takes a linebacker straight to the chin, but does it so he can loft a prayer to a white guy at WR.

That man then delivers a cold-blooded slant for a TD, and wins the game.

Who is that man? That man is Tommy Rees.

SCENARIO TWO:

You're playing your hated rival from the state of Michigan.

Your defense is playing lights out, but your redshirt frosh QB is struggling once again. He loses his helmet after a run play, and has to go to the sideline to collect himself.

Who do you turn to?

You turn to the man with statuesque mobility, who has somehow only been sacked liked three total times anyway, because he's such a badass general at the line of scrimmage.

You turn to the man who will do the unexpected.

You turn to the man who runs a 7.2 40, and let him RUN for a touchdown against scUM anyway.

And he does it. And it is good.

Who is that man?

That's MY offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees.

He led us into USC as a true Freshman and broke the losing streak. Will always have a special place in my heart for that.

Help me out here. I seem to recall another instance where Tommy had to step in at the end of a game to salvage victory as a backup. He throws the game-winning TD, and instead of celebrating, he immediately unstraps his helmet and just starts walking to the sideline. Was one of the manliest and cold-blooded moments I've ever seen on a football field.

Anyone else remember this?

I will always remember Tommy for 2012 Stanford. I think that's what you're talking about.

I want to say that the TD pass was caught by Koyack, but whenever I go looking for the play online, it doesn't show up, so I must be getting some of the details wrong.
