You guys are a little hard on Tommy, haha. Who knows, he might end up to be a fantastic coach.

not really sure you'd want him to. he's hardly the most charismatic chap

He's not charismatic, but that isn't a make or break quality IMO. He's a young guy, probably can relate to HS kids better than most.

Week 5: How to outrun the police.

He's taking the "do as I say, not as I do" approach.

I am confident in saying that Tom will make a great coach someday. His knowledge of the game, and particularly his QB experience and his mental toughness, will make him a great coach in the future.

I have enjoyed his recent interviews. Although it's not always visible or emotional, he's got this deep fire within himself and it's directed to football.

Thomas Rees of the House Noodlearm. First of his name, breaker of handcuffs and Khaleesi of the Great Grass Field.

Wooly,
Not much literally makes me LOL. That did. My Wife just asked me what the heck was so funny.
Well done.

Notre Dame QB coach Tom Rees grows as coach through self-reflection
Notre Dame's quarterbacks aren't the only ones learning in the meeting room.

Nick Ironside - Apr 8, 9:00 AM

"When I was here we went through a lot of different phases of what we were doing," he said. "A lot of it was personnel based. I wasn't running zone-read and all that. The offense, conceptually, it's still coach Kelly and you still see the aspects there, but coach Long has brought a lot of his stuff to what we're doing. We want to play fast. There are some details here and there that coach Long does a great job of coaching up and a great blend to work with.

"To me, it's a very fun offense to play in. It puts a lot on the quarterback and understanding what we're trying to do, and I would have loved to play in it. You still see the same structure of the offense. Now, coach Long comes in and adds his mix into it."

Kelly Meat and Potatoes plus Long Spice --- sounds like 40+ points per game to me. If Harry's Monsters can Maul, who knows how many more?

Now if only the defense can keep it under 40+ we might be on to something.

I don't know, still seems a bit too complex, and Tommy (Of all QBs) is saying that this current offense puts a lot on the QB? Kelly offenses have always put a lot on the QB, to a fault at times. It was too much for Golson to handle, and it led to turnovers. Other QBs have struggled...they usually do very well when the offense is dumbed down, but mistakes start occurring when you lay it all on the signal callers shoulder's.

I thought the "personnel" comment was significant.

A lot of it was personnel based. I wasn't running zone-read and all that.

On offense we substituted personnel packages based on down and distance ... and ran specific plays for each package. Small wonder defenses played run or pass depending upon who was inserted for the situation.

Wasn't this also similar with BVG's defense. He heavily substituted different personnel packages for down and distance. When offenses finessed him and the packages couldn't get on ... or off the field in time ND was caught with the wrong personnel on the field.

I got nervous reading an article that had quotes from Kelly saying we have a lot of situational players on defense. I had flash backs to above.

Yes. If Daniel Smith, a wide receiver, was on the field, we were running the ball, no questions asked.

It's one thing to abide by "be able to run, even with the defense knows it's coming."

It's another thing entirely to abide by "let's give away our playcall before we've even lined up all the way."

Hopefully a base package of St. Brown, Claypool, Mack and Smythe eliminates BK's desire to constantly change personnel (and rack up delay-of-game penalties).

This is pretty true, we had some formations that were super run heavy, and then we had empty which was ~5% designed run.
