Oh yes, Kelly's a mastermind at gameplanning, especially with a month to prepare.

He's 4-3 in bowl games, the only blowout loss coming in title game. So I'm not sure where your sarcastic demeanor is coming from.

Some of you guys, I really wonder. When you guys were younger and someone wanted to fight after school, did you just show up and close your eyes and wait for it to be over?? Seriously, I can understand the nervousness and pessimism; but if you've already given up then stop commenting on the game and season and reserve to posting only about recruiting or next seasons predictions.

The average temperature in Nashville on December 30 is 34-46 degrees. I am hoping for the 34. Those southern boys can't handle the cold.

For all of you guys who think this is a horrible match up for us you need to open your eyes. Yes maybe it has ass whoopin all over it, but this is a situation where we have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain. It's not like we are playing LSU away, it should be a pro Notre Dame crowd. We win this game against a very good SEC team we gain some respect back heading into 2015, if we lose or get whooped well then we learn from it and know what we have to do to get better. It's a great test for our kids to match up against and a great experience. Bring on LSU!!

The thing is, they're not very good. They're pretty good, but not up to their usual standards. They have their requisite terrible QB, a very good defense, and a great running game. Beating them won't do much except make people say, oh, I guess LSU wasn't that good (and they're right). On the other hand, if an LSU team that hasn't looked particularly impressive outside of their rivalry games comes out and stomps us, that makes us look even worse than we already do. Nobody cares that we have injuries if Fournette rushes for 300+ (which he easily could).

Even though I doubt we win, it's a good bowl/team for recruiting, all things considered. It's not like anyone we're recruiting right now actually thinks we're any good, so it's almost all reward, little risk. Yes, we could get our pants pulled down, but even if we lose by 30, it won't be the most embarassing loss of the season.

Are you including his Cinci and CMU years? His first bowl, we rocked a Miami team without a coach, still a good win considering their athleticism, but not great. His second one, we completely shat ourselves in the second half and gave the game away to FSU. His third year, I don't think I need to tell you what happened - just one of the most humiliating losses in ND history, and his 4th year, an astonishing 13-point win against powerhouse Rutgers.

Chances BK will declare his starting QB? I know it's fairly early.

ND to the Music City Bowl

It's embarrassing seeing a fan base just straight give up.

It was more embarrassing seeing the team and coaches straight give up.

*I agree though, this is a good test, and that's why they play the game. Might as well win it.

The one guarantee I can make about this game is that a cold temperature will not adversely affect LSU. It's Nashville...not Cleveland

Not that im completely doom and gloom right now, none of his bowl games at ND have been all that good. They looked horrible against bama, sloppy against FSU and atrocious against a bad Rutgers team. Sure, there was Miami, but they sucked and just fired their coach. So Im not convinced at all, that Kelly will be ready. He never is with a long break.

We were out classed vs Bama...never had a chance.

The Champs Bowl was the most frustrating. Had them beat at halftime before Diaco went soft & Rees started throwing picks. That was a choke job.

The other two bowls? Just glad we won.

I've avoided the board for a while because the games were so terrible so I'm probably in the minority, but I'm still onboard with Golson. A large percentage of his INTs were flukes (batted passes, deflected, etc.) and some of the fumbles resulted from horrible protection. Now some of those fumbles were horrible and completely his fault. However, I did notice that he is protecting the ball better and sliding earlier instead of taking the hit. What I'm banking on is that he experiences the same 3rd-year bump that Quinn and Clausen did (Jimmy threw 17 INTs his sophomore year). Also, if he's not going to keep the ball on a read-option, can we please run from another freaking formation?

Yeah sorry, that was toned more negatively than I intended. I hate board negativity because football is supposed to be fun! I can make up ten thousand reasons to kill hope about the future of any program, and especially ours. When I go online and those get reinforced, it makes it not fun. Hope and excitement are fun, even when they're misguided. I also believe that the future of our program is ultimately bright, that we have a ton of advantages that other programs don't have, and that Kelly is a good coach who has suffered an undue quantity of bad luck. He's also frustratingly stubborn sometimes.

Golson has a lot of potential, but his pattern of mistakes is frustrating to see. I guess what I intended was that I HOPE he gets better, and am excited to see his improvement as I would be excited to see Malik tear it up. I just want to see competent quarterback play in the service of ND, consistently and thoroughly, even if it's not exceptional.

I also think that there are things that are uniquely ND and will not and should not ever change. We do not recruit "Wall Street" players, but we have minimum standards that are already far less than those of the rest of the student body and if we started recruiting thugs I'd be done with football (see: Alabama's national champion thugs beating a student unconscious for vending machine money, From national championship to jail for 4 Alabama football players - CNN.com). We shouldn't be afraid to play Navy, and even if we were, we made them a promise and we'll be keeping that promise until the end of time or else it isn't ND football anymore. We're independent dammit; we've always been independent and because of the sheer degree of bigotry shown to the Irish when we tried to join a conference originally, it's now part of our identity to be independent. We shouldn't join a conference because it's easier; we should only join a conference if there is no other damn way to be the best in the country. Our identity is worth more than that.

LSU isn't that bad of a matchup.

With Kelly's philosophy, ND is a pass first offense & when he gets two scores behind it's a pass only offense. LSU has the #1 pass efficiency defense in the nation. I just hope their competition wasn't that adept at passing the ball to begin with and it inflated that number.

Their losses were against Mississippi State, Alabama, Arkansas & Auburn.

Haha really?

If they could, they wouldn't fight so hard to play northern teams only in warm weather. USC wouldn't have changed the rivalry so they play in South Bend in October instead of November. The playoff could have involved home games for higher ranked seeds, but instead we had to use traditional bowl locations because those are all in warm places.

That's 55 to -3 I hope. Because I absolutely expect to be so bad we lose points.

Fournette breaks the single game rushing record against us.

Half the board right now:

It will be Golson, but I feel confident Malik is going to get some playing time. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 60-40 or 65-35 split in reps.

There's this thing called recruiting no sure if you have heard of it or not but an ass kicking would not help us in that dept.
