The year is 2020. ND is fresh off of a 2019 season in which they played away games at Louisville, at Georgia, AND at Michigan. Just brutal.

What does the landscape of ND football look like? Who is the head coach? Is it still BK?

Did we make it through 2019 honorably? Were UofL, UGA, and scUM the powerhouses that we might currently view them as, or were any of them in a down year (such as Texas in '15)?

Is the team a playoff contender, or are we still bouncing between 7 and 10 wins?

Are any of the guys currently committed in the '17 class leading the way into 2020 as seniors? What about 2018 recruits?

I'm interested to hear what you guys might think. The program is at a crossroads right now, and emotions around the fanbase are obviously all over the place. 2020 is only four seasons from now, but considering the fact that this current season can either continue towards "Rock Bottom" or possibly reverse directions to "Bright Future," a lot could happen in the next 3.5 years.

Tell me where you think ND will be as they head into the 2020 season. Any aspect of the program is fair game for discussion/prediction.

"Thank goodness Notre Dame went co ed when they did, I mean how on Earth would they have been able to met the new federal 50% female roster quota without a female student body???"
Worst decision Notre Dame ever made. When Saint Mary's College closes in ten years, it'll be Notre Dame's fault.

EDIT: Ooooh, Camp got modded.

I don't think BK gets shown the door this year and think that he has a bounce back year in 2017, but I see no chance of him being the coach in 2020.

This is a hard question to answer, because a lot will depend on the DC hire at the end of the year, or if Jack decides to hit the reset button and find the next HC of Notre Dame. I find it more likely that BK stays another year, so it will completely depend on how defensive recruiting goes. Philly J will be a junior and a senior O Lineman will be offensive captains.

Edit: Forgot Kraemer's year.

Ha, camp modded himself. I was going to let it stand as a brilliant first post.

In the year 2020:

I think that we have a new head coach.

I think we are coming off of a promising '19 campaign against a brutal schedule (maybe 9-3/10-2) that gives us playoff hopes for the year 2020, in which the schedule is Charmin' soft.

I think Jurkovec is true junior, about to head into his second season as a starter.

I think 5th-year senior Parker Boudreaux is leading the way on the OL, though there are more high-profile and younger guys anchoring the tackle spots.

I think the defense is lead by two fifth-year guys that are freshmen on the current team, but not yet playing. Maybe one of the safeties and one of the corners.

Naw, I had a funny thought, got distracted at work, posted, came back and was like.... Yeah that didn't come off right... Deleted with the intention of coming back later... Oh well.

So with this prediction, I assume you are thinking Kelly is gone after '18 season, and new coach led us in a successful '19 campaign?

I don't see Kelly getting fired by JS unless he has two disastrous years, basically I think Kelly has enough goodwill with JS to get a bye on this season (if its a disaster, still can turn things around) but if '17 is also a disaster I think he's gone.

Buuut, to answer your question in 2020, I think Kelly is still the coach, but it may be his last year, as it would be his 11th. He'll have led us to back to back playoffs in 17-18, 19 will be a set back year, 2020 will be his swan song, leading us to the now 6 team playoff.

He heads back to the northeast to coach at a school with less expectations and brings them some prominence. Diaco moves in as new HC at ND for 2021! (I'll probably get killed for that, but I've met him a couple times and I'm a big fan)

In an unheard of move Phil Jurkovec, ASB, Brian Hightower, TJ Pledger, Jackson Carman, Jamaree Salyer, Finn Durstine, Zach Kuntz, Bo Bauer, IE Gaoteote, Bookie Radley-Hiles, Houston Griffith, Tyreke Johnson, PJ Mustipher, Tahj Rice and Malik Vann all announce the night before the home opener vs UConn that they will all skip their senior seasons and enter the 2021 NFL draft. ND immediately offers 100 scholarships overnight and ResLife Hero dies of a stroke upon seeing his Twitter feed.

A very sad day for all.

Realistically, who the fuck knows.

I'd suspect BK is gone by 2020 just because no one lasts that long in the job. I think we're probably at least pretty decent just based on talent/recruiting/resources. The sky is not falling.
But beyond that there are just so many variables.

The year is 2020, Notre Dame football has just won it's 2nd consecutive MAC title behind Coach Rex Ryan despite not fielding a defense. Because, in his words, "What's the point"?

Only after lowering their academic standards, and allowing JUCO's, was ND able to shake off their 3-30 run. Their only wins coming against Nevada, Navy, and a Michigan team who had just lost their coach Jim Harbaugh and 3 players who were involved in what was called an, "extremely lewd" rap video. This stretch of abysmal play cost them their NBC contract, forcing them to join the MAC.

Brian Kelly was fired after the 1-10 2016 season. He is now the current offensive coordinator of the Calgary Stampeders. And it's Malik Zaire's team.

DeShone Kizer is now the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. His two super bowl wins have cemented him as a beloved figure in that city.

The Year is 2020 (The Future of ND Football)

It's the year 2020:

IE is still littered with brain bending threads predicting the future, despite the collapse of the first world, and the Internet being illegal. Patriot posters continue to look into crystal balls, and.....

*This might as well be a Cubs board since they are going to win it all this year.

The "next year" mantra runs so deep here now, I wonder how many of us actually follow the present at this point.

This year blows, plain and simple, but there are 8 (possibly 9) torture shows to go. I'm gonna try to buckle up and see it through.

It's the year 2020: Notre Dame effectively leaves the FBS to join the new offshoot division comprised mostly of academic schools like Vandy, Duke, and Northwestern. Recruiting immediately drops from Top 20 caliber to the middling 60 range. On the plus side, ND beats Stanford to win the first Academic football championship under the coaching of HC Mike Sanford, OC Tommy Rees, and DC Will Muschamp.

Hopefully Urbs has decided to come back and save us.

Not while Fr Jenkins is still breathing.

In 2020 BK will be gone, burnt out like Ara and wanting to spend time with the family. ND Football will be the same as it is today. One year were top ten, then next were trying to avoid a .500 season. Koon will still be drooling over the physiques of 18 & 19 year old boys and complaining about the new S&C coach.

Year 2020. ND is in the same place it is now. Once year knocking on the playoff door, only to fall short by one game and the next year complete outhouse.

Interesting to see the player make up of teams like ND and Stanford. Academic responsibility by top athletes are at an all time low. Wonder what the recruit rankings will be for those two teams.

Bama, OSU, FSU and the other football first schools will allow their athletes to take all their courses online and completely unmonitored. Academic achievement and GPA in those school will skyrocket as their athlete/students who just months ago, couldnt hardly complete an intelligent sentence will be doing A online work. AMAZING!!!

I don't know man we're so far from that it's hard to even comprehend. If Notre Dame doesn't change its requirements and restrictions it's just not going to happen unless a miracle scenario plays out where we play a big 12 team or something like that that has no defense.
